In my mind, it will still be the same account, just more so another character to mess around on/do different things with. ie; WoW... You have an account, where you may have 3 different characters. On the one WoW account you may have a lvl 80 Priest, a level 76 Hunter, and a level 50.. Druid..
You can't log into two of the characters at once, as they are on the same account.
Would like to see Blizz do something similar, simply so I can tell 'OK, I'm diamond with Zerg.... But I'd love to know where my protoss is at/advance at toss without sinking my rating..." Playing custom games is too far different from the ladder. Not only is it hard to get map variation, but you rarely find someone who is a fair fight.
All for it. This

All for it. This i would agree if we paid $15 a month to play sc2.

It's the same system as for wow. If you have multiple licenses added to you B.net you have to select which one you want to play.
And you can only have ONE EU license per account and serials will only supply ONE account.
So you'd have to select your EU, NA, KR or SEA account for example. If you want to test what I mean get a couple of WoW trials and try logging in you get the same drop down menu,

I don't pay $15 a month to play Warcraft 3, and I can make as many accounts (or characters, if you insist) as I wish. It doesn't cost them any more money to allow us to have multiple accounts, they just don't think allowing that would yield them enough profit to make it worth their while (and they don't want any smurfing - at all - in order to encourage lower-level play).
Edit: to the post above mine:

In WoW there are no region-specific accounts, I can change my realmlist file to EU servers and play there if I so desire (incidentally, I get better latency than on the Seattle-hosted servers).
Although you may have been talking about SC2 there, I can't tell.

Now that the ladder just reset, I wanted to revisit this. I'm at work so I can't determine if this has changed or not. Any updates?

Ive had that option since I first logged into the PTR 1.2 (Or the 2nd one they released that allowed the multiple accounts).
|
The option is still there to select 2 accounts, but they both sign you into your main account.

Sadly this is actually believable.

btw. I think it is a bug but i do have two characters with 1 account oO One at the EU-servers, one at the US-Server....?!?! Just before something went wrong with the eu-servers, i changed my location (from eu to us). so, i didn't had an eu character anymore. but after they fixed bnet, my eu character reappeared and my us account didn't vanished. lool. now i can play on eu and us with one battlenet account^^ both with the name sinus, just different character codes.... i wonder if i should contact blizz about it or just beeing happy to be able to play on both servers^^

Or maybe it's in prevision of the expansion.
You know, like, SC2-1 for SC2, SC2-2 for HOTS and SC2-3 for LOTV

Sounds like you are onto something. That makes perfect sense to me :O

I don't need 2 characters, so I'm going to contact blizz. I wonder more what happened then having two characters...

I hope this multiple accounts thing doesn't happen. I mean, sure, I'd like to off-race without my main-race account being affected, but overall I think it' better, especially for the lower leages, that there are less smurfs about. (You always have the option of buying more accounts and tie them to another e-mail if you want a smurrf)
|
But with the ladder system as it is - smurfs get shot out of bronze really fast.
In WC3 you could have as many accounts as you wanted, and your ladder stats were tracked for each of them. It's like 30 kb in a database, not exactly a big deal. Having multiple usernames, but each still tied to your account would go a long way to improving experimentation and race spread. There's a ladder. People care about their stats, having another account to be able to off-race, try something new etc, but still be able to see how your're progressing with that specifically would be really good. And something that's already been done.

If it aint broken, don't fix it!
They will probably just fix "the problem" and delete your eu acc and say something about a database mix up.

You have to look at this issue from both sides. I agree that it would be nice for those of us who legitimately want to learn all the races to have a separate ladder for each however, there is a counter argument.
In Warcraft 3 (and broodwar) you have some people who use smurf accounts for other reasons. Some players get a lot of enjoyment out of demolishing lower level players. This can be very very frustrating. Blizzard wants newer players to have competitive games with others of a similar skill level.
Now in the current system if you demolish enough lower level players you will move up the ladder until it is not so easy anymore (great!). In most cases (BW and WC 3) a "smurf" has a legitimate account that they use as their main to ladder. In the current system if you give someone like that multiple accounts they will have no issue winning one game in bronze then promptly throwing the next match to keep his smurf at a low level so he can continue to grief people when he is in the mood.

meh it happened to me as well, but its the same account on the normal server but 2 seperate ones on the ptr. Either way i have 2 accounts anyways, both in platinum as of today got a promotion on my gold account that i usually use to test out new builds :D this season my goal is to get to diamond , i started out not having played RTS games for years when i bought starcraft 2 ( i played wc3 for a few years after it came out but that was the last time pretty much) so i started out in bronze league and have worked my way up to platinum on 2 accounts now
i wish you could have more than one account per cd key it would encourage me to play a different race on the ladder i tried to play terran but i only do well against protoss as terran ( i play protoss) i guess its because i know how i usually use to terran but my tvt and tvz are horrendous.

I highly doubt that letting players have a secondary account on the same server would affect sales much at all. There's only a very very tiny percentage of people who would go out and buy a 2nd copy of the game on the same server to begin with, so it would really make no difference. It's not like you're getting extra content, and it's not like you can give your secondary account to a buddy or something as they are both linked to your main bnet account and can only be used 1 at a time.

True true. But i don't need 2 characters and maybe with a later patch or whatever it could give trouble. And I wonder what they are going to say.^^ Just funny this is possible, hehe.
