I did what many people here on teamliquid want to do, I interviewed the swedish star "Jinro" and got answers for all my questions after the GSL. We talked about his games, his thoughts on South Korea and about the upcoming GSL matches. This is a long interview, children won't have the patience to read it. But for some reason I think it was a good call to not edit it down. Here is a taste of the first questions:
Question: Hello Jonathan, how are you? Jonathan: Well, I have chilled a bit after GSL and taken my time to do things I didn’t have time to do during the tournament. It means go to the gym, watch movies, really everything else other than Starcraft 2.
Does that mean that you had time to get some perspective on the tournament? How does it feel when you look back on your matches? I am satisfied with my play all the way to the semi-final, I cannot be happy with that even with some perspective. I did not expect to win but I know that I can do better than losing 4-0.
In the latest episode of “State of the game” both Tyler and Day9 reacted on your losing attitude before the games vs oGsMC. Do you think that it mattered in the games versus MC? Did you not believe that you could win? Yes maybe a little bit. But it is hard to feel positive when even the practise went awful before the semi-final. I did not have time to change my play style as I would had needed to feel more secure, instead I chose to go into those games with greedy and risky builds.
To read more you should visit our gaming blog HERE.
My friend Eric and me will continue to post interviews in both english and swedish on our gaming blog, at our local newspaper. The rest of the content is completely in swedish thus far. We cover all games, but our main focus is on Starcraft 2 and World of Warcraft.
I made the interview in both swedish and english language. To read the swedish translated interview you need to scroll down. You can also read my old interviews with Thelittleone and Morrow on the blog, or the articel about World Of Warcraft: Cataclysm in swedish made by Eric.
EDIT: Please feel free to comment with constructive critisism or if you have a wish for a interview with a certain player. For example I had some requests to do a interview with Incontrol.
Peace // Ludvig

Wow, way to come through on this one. This is pretty cool, i was waiting for a response to the 4-0 blow out. Good work on making it that far though. I always love the player interviews, adds more depth to the games they play.

Props to the OP. Super awesome Interview. Love hearing from Jinro after his hero run in GSL.
Can't wait to see that series against IdrA, gunna be sooo crazy

Awesome interview. thanks a lot.

hilarious that his dad follows which maps are worst for terran

That was an excellent read. It also affirms my feelings that GSL should try fielding custom maps, perhaps crafted by a professional map-making team as in BW. Being the unquestionable biggest, best SC2 league atm, only they have the clout to enforce a standard of using non-ladder maps.

"...and my dad keeps count on which maps are imbalanced for terran. It is funny to get a email from him in which he feel sorry for the maps I have to play."
huh? Terran have maps they are disadvantaged on?

Great interview, really awesome. Definitely can't get enough Jinro.
I think between Jinro and IdrA it's pretty hard to bet on IdrA. He's such a solid player but so is Jinro and you'd be hard pressed to say that Jinro wasn't the more flexible of the two. Jinro saying that the maps would decide it seems to me to be more polite than accurate. On the other hand, IdrA still is my BM macro hero and I almost feel like Jinro's style complements IdrA's. So who knows.

It would be interesting to hear idras thoughts about the upcoming match against jinro. For some reason i don't think he would be polite. I don't know why Jinros style would complement idra's though.

Love you loui!
Oh, nice interview, too
|
Ya I agree Jinro V IdrA will be awesome. A macro oriented zerg vs a slow, methodical, technically sound terran. We know Idra likes to macro up but how will he do against a Terran who is much more Macro oriented than most others.

Thank you for this... English translation

very good interview! I like that he learned korean through battlenet.

nice interview! jinro is a great guy! everyone knows that jinro could do much better than losing 0-4 thats a fact. but now he did ;/

Hehehe awesome. So hilarious to imagine Jinro's dad following the LR thread. Lol

Thanks a lot for the interview, was really good.
Hoping Jinro wins next GSL but mostly that he continues having a fun time in Korea.

Nice interview. Cool to have support from the family.

Complement?
Also Idra has been saying quite good things about Jinro in the interviews I've heard (although before the got placed in the same group). If he's honest or just don't want to alienate the team liquid community I don't know, but since he usually don't hesitate to speak his mind I think it's the former.

Nice interview!
"Du är så jävla EPIC Jinro!" In english, "You are so damn EPIC Jinro!

Nice interview!
I wonder how old his father is for being so interested in Starcraft 2 as it seem he is. My dad wouldn't in a million years begin to look into these kind of games, but then again, I'm not on the top of the world elite when it comes to this. :p

I think it's quite common for parents to start being interested in what their children is doing, especially if they're making a living of it. I know plenty cs-players and (ex?)wc3-players in sweden with similar parents :p

Complement was a response to jakeburtons "complement" but i think that he meant that jinros style would be favourable for idra, probably because both players want to play a macro game. And most people consider idras macro to be his biggest strength and going into a macro game with him to be a suicide.
p.s Hehe hi TBO and Timmyfred!! I wasn't mean in supcom, or was I? :p

That is quite interesting, do they actually play the game too?

Great interview.
Sadly enough there are only a few balanced maps out there right now, Xel'naga is one of them. I'm really hoping for some custom maps in the next GSL tournament! Yes, please!
|
Jinro Vs IdrA would be epppppppic.
Jinro's harass can elicit the IdrA rage we all love, and then he back it up with incredible macro to quell the swelling swarm.
EDIT: My dad is actually interested in Starcraft as well. He plays Call Of Duty single player sometimes, I'm gonna get him online when I go back home for XMas. I'll show him Starcraft when I get back. I always tell him stories about how its a sport in Korea and how it's huge all over the world. I tell him that the fun is that there are a million ways to play it and every match is different.

great interview, was an easy read. much appreciated!

Good interview, honestly not too long though, average good sized length imo!

Yeah, that is more or less what I meant. Although, one of Jinro's strengths is really that he knows how to play the whole game. So he can force a macro game against all-in-ers and harass players who want to play a macro game. More than that, I don't really know how to compare the quality of his macro game against IdrA's or the quality of his early pressure compared to IdrA's resistance to such pressure (he must get plenty of practice >_>). Additionally, I honestly can't remember watching IdrA playing a macro game in recent memory. I feel like either the fight is fast and dirty or the other player sort of rolls over after 10 minutes.

Great interview! Thanks for sharing.

Nice read... and I'm a bit jealous on the Swedes compare to my Norwegian comrades when it comes to gaming. The ratio of great players are like 10 to 1 or so in favore of the Swedes.

They are his friends. Idra is not. ( as far as I'm concerned)
What does it matter that Idra is a Foreigner?
|
Idra vs Jinro
unless Idra fixes his constant overdroning and Jinro gets through his "holdback-ing", these problems are gonna bite them in their skinny asses!
|
Jinro actually does like the nickname "Chinro"! I was so afraid he was going to track me down for spreading it!

Exactly my thoughts as well. It's petty to think that the race (ethnicity that is) makes a difference in who you root for. Props to Jinro for being an all around stand up fellow and not as petty. He's definitely got my fan vote =) for taking Idra in a BoX.

Thanks so much! Soo good!

Great interview. Thanks guys!
|
Thanks for the interview, it was a good read.

We need more players like Jinro. He gets crushed in an hour-long series, but he doesn't knock on MC for "cheesy" play or anything like that. He realizes his weak points and admits that he went for risky play.
|
masssssssssssssive interview
Great work
|
Pretty cool interview! Thanks for the link!
|
What a humble guy. The more I watch/read about Jinro the more I like the guy.
|
hmm.. it's gonna be a close call. im kinda feeling that idra might steam roll jinro in a long game, as zerg seem to be the most powerful race in a macro race (not open for discussion, just an opinion). I do think Jinro's strenghts; strategy and positioning, plays right into idra's weaknesses though. Jinro has the strenght of the entire oGs house behind him however, so I think that's actually what might just tip the favour into his hands in this series.
|
Great interview - thanks for taking the time to do it!

Thank you so much for the interview!

I like that he likes sharing the Gorilla Terran nickname with iloveoov Respect thine elders!

love jinro, it makes me so sad that he and idra have to play eachother
|
Nice interview =) Jinro fighting !
|
I know exactly the kind of day he had the day he went against MC. It's where no matter what you do, everything is just off. It's the contrast to those days where you are just unstoppable almost no matter what. His 'Biorhythm' was at a low point and I guess it couldn't be helped.
I hope Jinro takes GSL 4; JINRO FIGHTING!
|
hahaha imagine one day Jinro is gonna be big and he's up there battling his epic final with his arch rival zerg player... then a power surge ... and the refs decide to give his opponent a win ... and jinro dad unleashes his furious rage ... it's gonna be the most memorable moment never happens in the history of SC ...
...
