Slam: yeah being a girl is painful... beauty is pain, tested the pose out myself, possible but a little uncomfortable
Beneather: i understand, didnt think anyone would pick up on that. but i did use the banchee icon picture to design the top part, as there is no banshee bottom i did reference nova. she has more of a sneaker style shoe, and well banshee sits down all day, so i thought it would be cute to add heels.
she is more based on the money for hire banshee in campaign, thats why shes more greeny...
will start work on the next one =) thankyou for the feedback. currently will be doing a diarama, will post here with link later tonight.
also, my sister and i, are doing bad gamecasting if anyone has time for a listen and feedback and or want to submit your game =) http://www.youtube.com/user/thebeeduck
She's beautiful. Never saw banshees in this light before. Usually it's either "DIE!" or "banshees are so gay" or "crap my lair's not done yet" or something along those lines.
But I digress -- she's beautiful. Good work! Way to give personality to an in-game unit.
Question: What is the background 'circuitry' thing going on?
To the straight males out there, yes, there is indeed a background.
EDIT: Oh, and this is the first time I have seen Banshees in a positive light myself. Usually it's just 'Oh shit why can't I scout whyyy' or 'goddammit I didn't even know I had 30 drones at that expo' or 'Could you please or once not obsess over killing the Avatar and show some character depth for once?'

Hi its the plane/craft
so where she is lying, the cloak is distorted.
her suit is just an exaggeration of the banshee animation.
nice suit design also good artwork would make me volunteer to join the forces. though the join dominion test said i would be good at piloting a thors T_T
Wow great work! Personally it is not my style for a desktop but for a lot of people it is. Also it is amazing art work! If you like doing this kind of thing I look forward to seeing more from you in the future! I love looking at gamer's artwork. I'm an alright artist myself but could never pull off anything like this so it is quite intriguing to check out other people's amazing talent.

Initial tests of banshee cloaking technology proved a qualified success. The neosteel framework of the banshee itself cloaked perfectly. However, scientists are still researching how to cloak the pilot.,,

That's idiotic logic, and that still has almost nothing to do with Starcraft. Just generic hurp de durp let me draw a hot girl and put vaguely associative things like a helmet on her and say it's Banshee fan art.

It's a good thing that I had blink researched and had 7,000 APM; otherwise, I would not have been able to avoid dying to the idiocy of this post.
So you see the background? The sky looks completely normal, right? You have clouds, blue sky, you have the suggestion of sunlight, the outline of the hull of a ship using translucent grey lines and the appearance of blue circuitry. A normal sky if I ever saw one.
It's amazing what people will rage at sometimes. Some guy makes a wallpaper, doesn't boast with it, even adjusts it to the user's wishes and someone will still have the nerve to complain about it. Instead of, say, just passing by a wallpaper he's apparently not interested in and probably couldn't do better either.
On topic, well done. A little too bright colors for my (desktop-)taste, but it fits the banshee/air theme very well. Looking forward to more of your work, possibly with darker tones (but don't worry about protoss or zerg themes, just stick to terran ).

Not quite what I was expecting. I don't really like that you can't really connect it to Starcraft. It could easily just be a random girl lying in the sky

with a BNet icon on the helmet...
Lets put it this way, If I saw this on someones desktop, I wouldn't think, Oh, thats a banshee
So THIS is why people lose to banshees, they are too busy looking at the person in the cockpit, to see the stealthed armor-plated rocket shooting hovercraft killing everything they own.
Yes, this WAS a comment on some people's inability to see a cloaked banshee, why do you ask?

Having her lie on an extremely subtle cloaked banshee (which is very obviously not the center piece) doesn't change the ridicule of my post. Turning everything into hot women isn't artistic or fan art. Next why not make a zerg Queen that looks like a hot woman and call it SC fan art?

The entire concept of the art is stupid.
Literally just turning anything into an unnecessarily and inappropriately sexually charged object rather than making more relevant fan art that is actually more based on and inspired by the game.

I actually thought you were just trolling, but after reading your many reposts, I guess you have put a lot of thought into what your saying, and you genuinely believe and stand by it.
I just want to tell you why this is a banshee. She is in full uniform, as per the ingame portrait of sc. If it makes you feel better I will change the title to banshee pilot. I am sorry that you only see banshee as the plane, not an error on my part that you have an inability to recognise a women, even on screen her portrait is twice as big. I promise shes in the game, you just have to look. For this one banshee (pilot) , play campaign.
(you remind me of that guy that goes to a carshow and only sees the cars)
Also banshees are sexy, medics are sexy, kerrigan is pretty much a walking naked zerg? Did I miss something, do we own the same SC?
I would hate to admit it, but that was my idea for my next picture. Kerrigan morphing into the queen of blades, I actually laughed when I read that.
Anyway, there are many types of fan art/art that being said. You have a preferense. no need to Act like your the saviour of women and or decency, I guarantee you, your not.
Some like scenery, mechanical drawing, epic battles, gruesome fight scenes, and yes, believe it or not some enjoy sexy, inappropriately charged women.
all types of fanart.
Hell if you google saliormoon fanart it’s a lot worse than this. (don't google furries you will cry)
Anyway im going off topic.
My personal insight, being a woman, showing other women, I don’t and they don’t find what I drew to be insulting, but rather empowering. I think its okay to be sexy, be a pilot and be deadly. In todays age, quite acceptable.

Just my 2 cents. =)
Realizing that the original artist is a woman will hopefully silence those who would say the original art is degrading and exploitive of women.

It still doesn't change the fact that the view on art is entirely base on personal taste. So you find it sexually degrading, ok. I understand your point and I accept it. Others may find it beautiful just for the technique and drawing used, or maybe even want a sexually themed wallpaper.
It's one thing to voice an opinion (as you did). It's another to repeatedly dismiss the author's work and refusing to accept it as "fan art", which it clearly is. Regardless whether it's an oil painting of a hydralisk solving equations or a sexed up banshee pilot hanging in mid-air. One may argue about appropriateness or quality of the work, but it stays fan art and was inspired by the game.

Either way your art is really really good.
And of course it is fan art! There are many different motives you can draw and sexy women is a pretty sure bet for a nice drawing (showing a beautiful woman goes a long way to make it beuatiful) and I really like that you drew the banshee pilot. Much more common beautiful women in fan art are ghosts/medics/kerrigan so going for the less shown banshee pilot makes it a lot more interesting to me.
However even tho the drawing is stunning and really good it does not fit my personal tastes. Like someone else said for my desktop I really like having a darker image. And I can somewhat relate to thoose saying that when you see this you dont think "Oh thats a banshee pilot". At first I figured you had drawn her like she was piloting the banshee and it was cloaked so only she was clearly visible but looking closer at the pose I was wrong. I figured maybe she was relaxing on the back of the banshee working on her sun tan but the "shadowy" panels suggest she is inside so that kinda killed that idea as well. I dunno, i just have a hard time putting her and that pose into context. I dont really like the "posing for the sake of posing" thing, it is one thing to draw someone in a stunning natural pose like just taking a snapshot of them working and it happens to be a great pose, another thing to set up a pose.
Kinda ranting here I guess, you clearly are very skilled and I hope you draw more SC2 fanart, every drawing can't fit everyones taste and I am really impressed with your work.

I think her being a woman and then being overtly sexual about women doesn't write it off as okay. That would be like saying it's ok for black people to be racist to other black people. Or for starving people to deprive others of food. It just does not make sense.
And it's not that I think it's morally wrong to be overtly sexual, but I think it's exploiting the game more than women. When I think of fan art I think of people more passionate about the game creating fantasy worlds in art that really involve the game and creative things like this, not just making it into a sexual object. I don't really see this piece as inspired by the game, but more some one wanting to draw a hot woman in a tight uniform and then as an after thought deciding to incorporate a banshee pilot. This could just as easily be a futuristic Air Force pilot, or a picture out of any other Sci Fi series.

Hi, =)
She is on top of the plane, relaxing, getting a tan. the view of the craft shows the top and the side. slightly on angle shes is not in her plane, so she is not cloaked. =P which is starting to make other peoples comments make sense now. lol.
i used the image from the campaign banshee for the outline, if you wanted to see how it sits, its the one sitting in the armory.
i guess sadly im conditioned to do pose, poses as my main job is commercial art. so its kinda like "look at me" "sell, sell" "bright & happy" my personal real media work is too big to scan, but i understand what you mean.
anyway thankyou very much for your comments, and i will do more =)

You're an incredible jerk. Did you see the title of this thread? "Banshee Fanart desktop background." This is not a poll thread. This is not a question thread. Shit, this isn't even a discussion thread. But most importantly this is not a, "what does joonp think fanart means" thread. And yet here you are, repeatedly shitting your vile arrogance all over this artist's thread for no reason at all.
You said this isn't fanart, but it obviously is art which incorporates multiple elements from a game called Starcraft 2, of which CheekyDuck is a fan. This is a piece of art and the artist is a fan of the subject of this art. My point: you may want to see your doctor, because I think you've caught the dumbs.
The reason that this beautiful Banshee pilot could be "a picture out of almost any of the hundreds of Sci Fi games and movies and TV series that involve futuristic looks" is because visual motifs make most futuristic images convergently similar. Likewise, if this fan art had been of an epic battle between the Terran and the Zerg, you could just as rudely assert that it doesn't warrant the title of fan-art, because that could be a depiction of any of a hundred futuristic humans vs bug-like aliens themed stories. Visual motifs explain why similar things look similar.
Congratz! You earned an achievement! Force Someone to Explain What 'Visual Motif' Means +10 Jerk Points
I suggest that you not post in this thread again, because nobody likes a jerk, and this artist deserves more respect than you have to offer.
EDIT: Forgot to mention that I like the picture, and I'm sorry some people are so incredibly dumb. Great job! Would love to see more!
Joonp, wow.... Why so much hate? Firstly the fallacy you have committed is called “false analogy” as the situations are altogether different, and you can’t make an analogy between them. But to humour you: Please watch rush hour, you know the one with jackie chan and he calls the black guy a n*** and its not okay because his not black, but its okay for the black guys (African American), personally i like to call other asians Ninjas, because you know im Asian, so its ok. The starving people thing, i guess is also a hasty generalization not to mention i don’t know the circumstances, are they staving still? Or previously starving? That’s important if i want to draw a logical conclusion. So i’ll ask you if you play SC without sound? If you don’t please tell me when the medic says “where does it hurt?” you must think shes actually talking about your health bar... hmmm? Or are you writing evil letters to blizzard? I can assure you that the production and making of this artwork was made for the sole intent of being fan art and was inspired by the game. I figured everyone would of done fan art of kerrigan, or a ghost and or a medic. I chose a Banshee pilot, as they are kinda cute and i like the female characters in the game. It wasnt a quick thought either. I heavily researched the uniform, other SC uniforms. I chose a rogue banshee and colour matched the best i could. The uniform in the portrait looks actually quite tight, and the circuits on the rogue banshee in the campaign has a nipple circuit(see for yourself if you dont believe me). The craft involved vectors i made to have the subtle clouds, this was from the armory in the campaign. FYI there is more than one banshee plane design in the game. Sadly it cant be used as another future air pilot, otherwise i would slap it on a pokie and get paid for it. The uniform i believe blizzard would take issue with as the top part is too close to there pilot design. If i could just remove the bnet logo, change the colour of the uniform, slap an uncloaked plane under her, i would of done that already. But you will most likely ignore all the facts and keep posting over and over again your opinion with no facts or practical criticism. All i can say is im sorry and what i drew was not meant to offend you or morally drag blizzards image into the mud.
So I whipped this up because I was reminded that Kerrigan has heels. Shock! Horror! I know, and wholeheartedly sympathize with your distinct terror at the sight of unnecessary femininity.
Nice! Also, there's some great stuff on your deviantart as well. You're quite talented.
My only concern is that her hair might get caught in that helmet. I bet that's quite a problem, especially after you get sweaty and it gets tangled in there.
The artwork is excellent and I'm using it as my wallpaper at the moment. I just realized, though, that the pilot's feet appear to be locked into an uncomfortable looking position. I hope she gets some good R&R after coming home with an amazing kill count.

Maybe she'll get 28 kills like the banshee in that GSL match... (OH WHAT WAS IT -.-)

Im pretty sure she's lounging on top of a cloaked banshee, but it's kinda hard to tell.
Anyway, it doesn't really matter. Still hella epic.
Jpoon or w/e has a point on the whole "relatedness to SC". While everything else he said was stupid you should take his criticism on that point better in order to make your work significant. Honestly its probably worth more to you than all these other people going "omG its aMaZiNg"
Obviously the picture is supposed to be focusing on the pilot, so I doubt you want the banshee to actually be more apparent (although imo it should be), but I would definately not be able to make the connection between "banshee pilot" and this picture unless someone actually pointed it out. Like the hair, the suit colour, and the generic background doesn't really scream anything "banshee". You could have added something like dominion decals to her suit and it would be clearer (also it would take the plainness out of the suit imo), thats just one example I quickly came up with.
Personally I think it would be pretty awesome if the background was like CHAR and BC's are exploding above.. but then you got this banshee pilot all like "w/e idc". Call it "ghost-riding" with clear emphasis on the pun. Thats prolly not in your artistic vision though
tlDR The picture in itself is pretty good, but like jpoon I wouldn't exactly call it starcraft

I've noticed that most of the people complaining that this is not Starcraft fan art are fairly new members. Are you maybe just a casual player of the game? Have you ever actually even looked at the portrait of the Banshee pilot?? This is quite obviously a banshee pilot laying on a cloaked banshee.
If you wouldn't notice it without having it pointed out, then you either aren't very aware, or just haven't played as terran much, or watched vods of terrans, or played through the single player.... actually you're probably just not very aware.
JoonP, you are a complete asshat. If it's not your preference, fine. But don't sit here and attack the artist. The fact that it's fan art is not subjective. The helmet and uniform are obviously Banshee. Blizzard made the Pilot in the game sexy. This is not some new element the artist introduced. If you have some beef with the tight fitting uniform of Banshee pilots, bring it up with Blizzard!
I mean, both of you... for christ sake! look at the portrait!!!
thanxs Loophole, i forgot about that line. Lol =D in space everyone can hear me scream!
anyway heres the rogue one. because i confuuuse some ppl =( I did change the markings to match bnet and the numbers to match my player id =D removed the tubee cus shes not in the plane.
@ayababa The hair was done with photoshop, with wacom yes. if you want to have a closer look at the hair file construction heres the link: http://www.thecheekyduck.com/sc/hair.psd
I do draw in B&W then colour on top using levels, cb etc. base then strands, then strands, then glows, multi, etc.
its a very long, long process. but i think it looks nice at end result, no easy way to do hair sorry =) but i hope that helps.
@can't see the banshee plane? i just did the windows. =P

Thanks! It's really pretty with 2 monitors. Twice the banshee = twice the sexy
I don't think the definition of fanart is tied with any "moral" problems someone may have. Heck, the author's intention is explicitly stated, so unless you are some blizzard sc art employee you are nobody to judge "this isn't sc fan art".

ahh thanks for that. i figured it just took forever to do with layers and photoshop etc haha. my hair isnt any way near as detailed but i usually spend a few hours on it. but then again i only draw and paint manga / anime style or conceptual stuff. not really realistic.

That isn't "quite obviously" a banshee pilot. Yes I am familiar with the banshee portrait. No I still don't think it's very relevant to the game itself.
I don't care if you think I'm a complete ass hat, you have bad taste in art, and bad taste in everything if you think that is decent fan art. Alright, the fact that it isn't fan art is not subjective, you're right, there's no way anyone could ever consider that decent fan art.
And the banshee pilot is NOT sexy in the game, are you kidding me bro? Just because it's a woman it is automatically "SEXY"? If that isn't the most sexist degrading shit I ever read. Her suit is a bit bulky, and her helmet isn't a brimming arousing accessory. Saying she is sexy is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. In that video you posted she even has a tube coming out of her throat. I don't know who finds that sexy.
Fan art involves more relevant things about the game. Drawing some extremely background kind of thing in a game just for the sake of being able to manipulate it into a sex object doesn't constitute true fan art. In fact that's closer to porn.
And I think your need to attack me for being a "new member" or assuming that I wouldn't know what a banshee pilot looks like, or calling me an asshat really showcases how weak your argument is.

I think a Jim Raynor cup would be a cool idea, and that he should also fill it with what looks to be brown jelly...or pepsi...
on the other hand, now that the banshee is out lined...it kinda looks like the pilot would slide down...i mean, it IS glass after all, and there's nothing there for a foothold , unless your count her extremely uncomfortable left leg positioning as a foot hold
Having criticized joonp earlier in this thread, I feel I have to defend him now. I still don't agree with his concept of the wallpaper not being decent fan art (which I think it is, despite the sexual undertone and only cursory connection to SC2).
But the amount of flak he's taking right now, especially on a personal level - that's unneccessary. The discussion's not even about the picture itself, but about the whole concept of fan art, and even if you don't agree with joonp's point of view, there's no need to overact like some people here do.
Calling his arguments "ridiculous" (@Unas) is just wrong, because they are well thought out after all. And suggesting a "hidden resent to sexuality" (@haflo) ... seriously, what did you smoke before posting?

No, you're going to get attacked for not reading the thread. OP said more than once that this is specifically the rogue banshee pilot from the single player game. She even posted her portrait:
As you can see, she has a different color suit than the normal banshee pilot.

If you honestly can not grasp the concept of why calling any given woman sexy for the sake of her womanhood as degrading then I'm not even going to bother explaining anything to you, as you have already proven to be an idiot, as are most people ITT who will literally praise anything regardless of its integrity. (like you, if you didn't get the hint)
And no, I don't have a hidden resentment towards sexuality, now THAT is truly ridiculous. I do, however, have a resentment for people who abuse and overuse sexuality and the people who endlessly respond to it like mindless apes without self control.

That isn't what makes a community great. Creating mindless idiotic things does not enrich anything.
That's like saying since "talented" people put a lot of time into making porn it enriches the world.
Why would I appreciate it just because time was put into it? Hitler put time into murdering millions of people, should I appreciate that? He was also very talented at it. He was a talented person who put time into it, that doesn't justify it as correct.
I never said I love ugly aliens blowing up in space. Where did I say that? You're clearly a moron with nothing real to say about anything I've been saying except ranting nonsensically like the idiot you are.

You can't wear hotpants and then expect that no one would look at you.
So what? Don't you look after good looking women when you walk the street? No? Maybe you're gay? (I don't have anything against that.. i just wanna figure out, what it is that makes you so aggressive about this shit.) And no, it has nothing to do with "beeing a sex starved teenager". I know much more older guys whom are even more nasty than any teenager i know.
So, please just get outta here, if you don't like it, but stop with this stupid "propaganda". Goddamn...

There's just nothing there...
"Alright, the fact that it isn't fan art is not subjective, you're right, there's no way anyone could ever consider that decent fan art."
again, no substance...
"And the banshee pilot is NOT sexy in the game, are you kidding me bro? Just because it's a woman it is automatically "SEXY"? If that isn't the most sexist degrading shit I ever read."
I never said she was sexy because she was a woman... and even if I had, how would that be degrading?
Rediculous. All of it.
The woman is wearing a banshee pilot uniform. The art is based on a character from SC. This makes it fan art. There's really nothing to argue about. Joonp doesn't like the fan art. That's fine. But there's absolutely no reason to attack the artist. He's a classic troll. I probably shouldn't even acknowledge him, but I did.

I never made any assumptions about women only being sexy because of clothing, rofl your arguments are actually ridiculous, not mine. But yes, clothing CAN have an effect on the sexiness and attractiveness of a person. Do you really think that's a ridiculous concept? ROFL, jesus christ the people on this board.
Your arguments are so full of holes and completely comprised of ad hominem it's painful to read. Yes, this artist should've done fan art by copying exactly how the banshee is depicted ingame and not deviate from that (that was sarcasm by the way.) Do you know how much art over the entire history art is simply the artists' interpretations of existing ideas/stories?
Second, your outrage over the sexualization of the pilot is just too funny. Someone has some repressed sexuality issues here. I guess all artists should just make their subjects fat and unattractive. Wouldn't want to degrade them.

Thats prolly not in your artistic vision though
tlDR The picture in itself is pretty good, but like jpoon I wouldn't exactly call it starcraft

wow some people will argue and whine about anything. How is a banshee pilot with her banshee helmet not related to SC2?
Wow. I really can't believe a little piece of fan art could cause so much flaming. Kinda makes a person not want to contribute for all the hassle involved.
And I refresh to see Joonp is banned. A well earned ban I say.

Awesome stuff! You don't happen to freelance for websites or commercials or something do you? The quality of that work is definitely up there (beats most of the stuff i've seen anyway haha).
It really looks like the banshee pilot (when you know what the clothes look like). So yes, this is fan art. Hell, if someone made a yellow duck and called it fan art of pokemon, that would be fan art as well.
Difference is, this is actually pretty damn well done. I like the concept, good job ^^
I love the work, but I don't get why people were bashing that other guy. Not everyone can love something, and I have to mildly agree with some of his points. Not the extremes, but you get my idea. Actually the other guy was being a 'white knight,' talking about how the image degrades women and whatnot. And who in this thread has said anything about dropping their pants to this image? Only you and him seem to think that's what this image is for.

I don't mind that (s)he disagreed, really. If I saw the picture before knowing what it was... I would probably figure out it was related to SCII (and thus a Banshee) due to the BNet logo on the helmet, simply based on the fact that the character is lying on what appears to be an invisible circuit board. On the other hand, a fair bit of deductive reasoning would be required to make that assessment. That said, if someone mentioned that it was a banshee, it would be fairly obvious that, "Oh, yeah, that's what the OP was drawing. Makes sense kk."
So I can partially sympathize with what the banned person said and that people were calling into question his (her) sexuality or mental soundness. Not necessary.
That said, I called him (her) stupid in a particularly harsh fashion, and (s)he deserved it. As said, if you don't need to figure out what it is ex nihilo, and banshee is even suggested, it's fairly obvious that a banshee is being depicted. In a vacuum, the criticisms were disproportionate. In a situation where the OP is putting his works out there, it's a dick move. I mean, not a ton of TLers understand the concept of 'polite discourse,' so perhaps joonp was well within the mores of the community, but I'm not really a big fan of injecting an unsolicited opinion of a creative work. I don't think the OP, whoever he is, *did* solicit an opinion in the OP. Now, in the Strategy section, I have absolutely no issue pointing out factual flaws, as factual flaws will directly impact the SC2 performance of those who take up that strategy. But a creative work? Come on. Show some decorum and courtesy (this line not being directed at you).

Hope that helps =)
But everyone knows that drawings defy the laws of physics per default. Especially in regards to gravity and anatomy. Is that not a law of physics in itself? Oh noes, a paradox...
You know... I'm doubting that the artist has worn those kind of heels before
I have.
There's nothing practical about them... like... at all. In my case, they were used as a form of sexual bondage (I was free to try to escape if I could, was a devious game). The best I could do was crawl around and then the foot cramp happened and everything sucked.
I only say all this due to the "empowering" assertion earlier in this thread.
The only way this could be construed as "empowering" is in the context of a bdsm scene where the subs/slaves just *want* to worship your feet (and hopefully you won't have to try to walk around in them).
In any other sense, there is no asserting power in those things because even though the assertion can be made it's power over male sexuality (because they get hard over heels for whatever reason), the reality is that you can't defend yourself in those heels and once the men realize that, you find yourself being raped by a gang of stimmed marines before the scan wears off.
In regards to heels, I can dance in them, in my younger years I use to do ballroom.
But I believe I need to clarify that empowering in regards to sexuality, not beat them up power.
I do know that Nina in tekken wears heels, her high kick also does a lot of damage. anywhoo the banshee fights sitting down, with a craft, in the air.
im sorry to hear that you had trouble walking in heels, but i once saw a stripper jump swing on a pole, light herself on fire and dance pritter fast to that $100 note without falling... i guess its practice.... hang in there!
