dont know if it's been mentioned already
but the stats on carrier intercepters
they will launch at range 8
they will not return back to their carrier until range 12.
they dont outrange the siege tank but it's close enough.

Hmm, now with the void ray nerf in 1.1.2, void ray does 26.67 DPS to armor after charge.

Meanwhile, carrier does 80 DPS within the 1st seconds. We all know how important it is for a unit to front load their DPS instead of after load.

I predict carrier will finally be used.

Is the Carrier exactly on top of the Tank? Because otherwise your radius is different.

No its not. What matters is if the line from the Carrier to the BC is parallel to the line from the tank to the zealot. Since the Carrier is targeting the BC and the Tank can only target the Zealot, the distance is probably the same

fantastic find man, i thought the carrier had a longer range than 8, not 100% sure how it works, from using them in game (no rigorous testing) but it looks like the 4 trainable interceptors stick around to battle when the 4 it comes pre-built with leave as soon as it leaves range 8

interceptors have 3 range though, which makes the total 15.

Overall though, I'd say it's not really practical to be doing any attacks over 11 range, in fact I think it might be a possibility that targets can't be initiated past range 8 even if a dummy target less than or equal to range 8 is initiated before hand.

Did you say that at a certain range the interceptors stop spawning full force but some still move out to attack? This is interesting from a design perspective. I wonder what Blizzard thought when they made the Carriers attack behave like that. I don't know if its just me but it seems like much of the design of Starcraft 2 (the online portion anyway) is aimed at making the game as balanced as possible instead of trying to make it realistic or something else. So I wonder what purpose this semi attack serves? Keep in mind I was not a big Starcraft 1 player and don't have a lot Starcraft experience under my belt so if this idea seems stupid or the answer obvious that is why. But I would like to know what people think about it.

I'm hearing hard counter this soft counter that. So?

Carriers are an awesome unit. They do insane damage, and scale the best with upgrades.

By the time you're building carriers you'll have enough resources to followup with High Templars with Storm...which destroys any unit that can possibly contest Carriers.

They can only engage at max 8 range (launch from the carrier), but interceptors can keep attacking up to 14. It's even in the Liquipedia. :p
