You could also argue that broodlords have longer range, making the carrier the 3rd longest.

You can send in a zergling, then get broodlords to attack it, then it dies and the broodlings can run after your enemy. You can maintain this with constantly attacking new broodlings that land.

Pretty impressive apm would be required, but in theory, it's prossible.

Well keep mind you are not gonna have a naked army of Carriers, Blink stalkers can take out Corrupters and vikings with ease.

Only HuK showed us Carriers could actually be useful. The other horrible Bronze scrubs were just a waste to look at

EDIT: Wish some high-level Terrans could have actually stepped up and given us some high level replays of the no MM/Tank deal.

The problem with carriers is why would you waste all that time getting a few carriers when you could get a swarm of void rays. Rays do obscene damage. Also, the carriers range isnt that much greater than vikings, and corruptors can just run in and destroy carriers. Interesting find though.

I think the biggest issue with carriers isn't their strength as a unit, but that we haven't figured out the timings to get carriers safely like we did in BW. You can't just choose to get carriers whenever--you have to have a good timing for it, otherwise your opponent is going to realize when you're vulnerable and roll over you before you get enough carriers to hold.

I been experimenting with the one base carrier timing, it seems to be pretty safe if forcefielded well

Also the fact that carriers are expensive AFTER you get them.

There was a game that Socke played at MLG Raleigh where he made great use of Carriers. With the proper micro they can be devastating units. He lost that game, but the Carriers helped him stay alive for quite a while.

Does anyone know which game I'm talking about?

EDIT: It was Socke vs. Drewbie, game 3 on Lost Temple.

That is not true. Shadows depend simply on the lighting of the map. Actual unit position is separate from the position of the shadow.

problem is you still have to come in much closer to get the carrier to start attacking, and they're a little too slow for "kiting" with their range so to speak.

But i don't know I haven't tried it, maybe this can be micro'd in some way. Do have my doubts tho.

Nice find, I have noticed this as well, when I was rushing carriers for the day9 Funday Monday a couple weeks ago. Carriers destroy a mineral line!

Actually not really, I think the begin to be used far more often. I am already using a 3 gate carrier build and it wins me a lot of games...

people saying carriers are bad have no idea what they're talking about. I really don't understand why this is such a prominent idea on this forum. carriers get to be almost untouchable once you have 4 with the upgrade, they're an easy transition after getting a 3rd base and will force your opponent to change his tech choice significantly harder than you had to.

plus everyone know's ai sucks in this game, and interceptors do the same thing to units that PF's do: make them look retarded.
