I've lived on my own since I was 20, and my parents never showed up to anything like this during my career as a gamer. But when they finally came to watch today, it really made me want to win. Thank you. :'( so sad

Also Cool's mom is straight away on the phone probably bragging about how she has all this money. I dunno just think Cool should of kept like half the money for himself. I have this sentiment too, but how do you know he's giving all of the money to his parents? I'm pretty sure he doesn't say so in the interview.

At least his parents will spend it on fruit to sell. He would have wanted it that way.

GSL1 was overall awesome. Some weak players who made it through which was a bit lame, but next season should be incredible, and the season after that even more so with more foreign players hopefully joining

I hope thats true. I don't really know why and I'm probably completely wrong but his mom just didn't seem fully genuine.... It was just that comment in the interview, "Oh and he should give the money to us". Also her being on the phone at the end...

Thanks for your wonderful insight though. It seems alot of people agree with me so please, keep your failed attempt at being e-cool or whatever you're trying to be to yourself.

I'd withhold judgement on this unless we have an actual korean come along and help us understand whats going on. There's no accounting for culture, and 'never supported' / 'bragging about money' is pretty inflammatory.

I will definitely be signing up for the next one (I didn't have time to watch more than 1 game per set until the semis anyways ...). Zerg fighting !!

Well that's the impression she gave by firstly saying in the interview that he should give her all the prize money and secondly by going on the phone as soon as he won instead of maybe running up and hugging her son. When you add this to the fact she hasnt been to one of his gaming shows in the past 6 years I think my statements are warranted. Admittedly, this may all be a misunderstanding and a korean will come and clear this up which would be more than welcomed by me. I can only interpret as much as I'm shown.

Not to claim I known Korean culture, but I see Mama and Papa Flash and Jaedong at every event.. so I don't think its so much a culture thing..

I was raised by my parents and even though I wasn't told anything to take care of them it's just by our culture that we want to take care of our own parents thus we give them our money you could say as payback for their effort in raising us. I worked an entire summer when I was 15 and earned about 1.5k euros and instead of using it I gave it all to my mom. She never forced me or subtly told me to do that. Many asian people I know do the same. It's just in our culture to take care of the elderly and usually it's strange for a child not to live with their parents which is common for Western cultures but not for Asian ones. Usually the last child to be in the house has to take care of the parents which usually is the youngest one but sometimes it can be different. This is just how things are in my family but as far as I can tell it's the same for other asian countries.
