Watching Cool play makes me realize there is one dimension of StarCraft that I completely ignore and have no clue about.

Winning a tournament of that level (and doing it convincingly) is no fluke. He has some sort of game sense or timing sense or something-that-I-can't-label that makes him make the right decision everytime. He has said several times that he doesn't practice as much and would rather have fun (heck, he even left oGs), calls his micro poor and that watching the other Zerg replays he can't really point out what's the difference between them.

I honestly don't know how he does the stuff he does. I also have no clue how to practice or get that quintessencial skill that he has shown.

Q: What kind of help did your team TSL give you?
A: First off I ate very well. I like to resolve my stress through eating, and I was able to resolve my Zerg stress very well. Being able to eat a lot was a big help (laughs).
I guess he needed the prize money out of hunger. So happy he won.
The people I'm friendly with have already switched to SC II and are claiming SC II is the new mainstream, but I can't be sure since I don't know any present BW pros.
Interesting.

I think the explanation is years and years of starcraft experience, and a brain capable of learning to a greater degree than his opponents at present.

IMO the best part is that his parents game. I'm betting most progamer's parents aren't that supportive.

Watched the GSL replays on sc2rep and it really seemed to me that HopeTorture just played far worse, not even on same level as Fruit. In game 2, cliff drops a tank into a fast expand muta build? Why would you ever do this... he just turtles up and let's the zerg outmacro him, applying pretty much 0 pressure early on...

Do a standard MMM timing push with some early harass like any 1000+ diamond terran does and I can't help but feel that they would have performed better

Don't project your own suburban teen angst at people you don't know.

Not everyone hates their parents.

Err what? I'm not a teen and I love my parents. Thanks for your wonderful insight though. It seems alot of people agree with me so please, keep your failed attempt at being e-cool or whatever you're trying to be to yourself.

Let's see what you're doing - calling a tournament winner's mother a gold digger when you have no evidence of this.

I'm sure there's plenty of people who think "screw the parents, just keep the money dude!", but that's a culturally ignorant thing to say. And even if the cultural divide wasn't there, don't presume to know the details of other people's lives. I know if my father died and my mother was supporting my family by selling fruit, I'd give that 80 grand to her too.

Gotta love Cool... mostly because he plays Zerg... lol, jk

but seriously his performance should inspire some zerg players to stay their race because he played really well

About fans there: Even though Tasteless and Artosis kept saying "OMG ITS PACKED IN HERE!"... i thought there was like 10 to 20k people... but according to Fomos.. only 5k.. and by only i mean less than what i thought

great interview AND games overall... GGs.. GLHF in next GSLs

Do you guys actually stop to think maybe she was on the phone to call a family member and inform them that he had won? Like maybe his Dad or something? You guys read way too much into things. Everyone assumes the worst. :/

I still had no idea why he would go hydras. Desert oasis is a terrible map for hydras. YOu need mobile units on that map, and hydras is just immboile and not cost effecitve againts close to all terran units. I think he had won 4-0 if he had gone for normal muta first opening.

I believe the American culture has it backwards in that you are suppose to take care of your parents when they are old and gray. Running off on your own to make something of yourself is great but you still have to remember the ones who raised you and feed you. Yes, parents can be annoying but you still have to remember where you came from and return the favor that they did for you when you was young. Who will take care of your parents when they are 80 and can barely walk for themselves? Would you want your children to forget about you when you turn 80 and all your friends are dead?

I guess it's a cultural thing. As the vietnamese says. His parents probably took care and gave money to their parents and so on, so I guess they take care the opposite way as in western culture.

I have this sentiment too, but how do you know he's giving all of the money to his parents? I'm pretty sure he doesn't say so in the interview.

In the pre game show when they were talking to his mum I think she said something like if he wins the money is going into the fruit farm. I'm sure he will get a bit of it though. Kinda bad for him though unless they are really in poverty or something.

edit: nope the lag decieved me, I was just watching the vod and she said "it would be best if he gave all the money to me (this is where it lagged), so I can take care of it until he gets married" . So shes just taking care of it for him I guess.

Well, I think its safe to say Cool is sorta imba, never mind the actual race issues.

Props to him, wish I had woken up to watch it but I really needed sleep.

what makes you think his parents will see any of it? Cool is an adult who doesn't live with his parents......

great win for him and great that his parents turned up, i know how much it means to me when my dad makes it to my gigs (am a musician).
