As for Zerg in general, Cool actually does support some things that need work, like the hydralisk. He doesn't use them as far as I can tell, maybe Blizzard (and the rest of us) should ask him why. If a race already has very very few units, there shouldn't be a useless one ...

edit: also what's the math on drone harass. Like, drones cost 50 minerals, but they bring minerals back to your base so they pay for themselves by mining. Banshee will kill your drones, but banshees cannot mine minerals. Please explain the cost-effectiveness of drone killing ![]()

How often is he making drones vs. attackers, how does he balance gas/minerals so well, has anyone analyzed this stuff yet? It's like he's not afraid of losing 6 drones to a banshee. Just make more drones and kill it off eventually? Like if that's the answer, lol... I'll give you a clue in game 1: It's all timing and practice. He keeps an overlord near the opponent to watch for harass and pushes, and he drones and techs at all times possible in between pushes. In fact, the only army he had when the terran had the marine/marauder army was 6 or so zerglings, 4 roaches, 3 or 4 queens from the banshee harass, and that's it. He throws the zerglings in as fodder to buy time for 3 spine crawlers to come down, then makes 3 mutas because he fast teched into them. Then he makes I believe 5 or 6 more mutas while terran is pre-occupied with trying to kill his third base, and then he goes back to droning for the third base again. All the while he was killing off the terran army with new zerglings, mutas, and the queens. It's a very very fine sense of timing. Regarding your edit: It's not just drone cost effectiveness - for every drone that you kill, if the zerg needs to replace, he is losing out on a drone for his army. So if you make banshees and are cutting workers for it, you need to kill enough workers to make up the mineral cost of the banshee, plus the workers you are cutting for it, plus the additional workers to guarantee his army is smaller than yours

So it's all about knowing when to drone... and not just like, oh if i'm safe i'll make 2 drones 2 zerglings, literally, you make 4 drones if you can?? Also about my edit: so you're saying that the guy harassing is actually taking a larger risk, more than the guy droning. It seems counterintuitive, considering a droning/passive/cat&mouse play is like just a sitting duck, whereas the aggressor is killing workers. But if it doesnt pay off, you fail... interesting.

I have been wanting to play Zerg for a long time, but my experience with them during the beta made me shy away. I did well against T and P, but Z absolutely crushed me! ZvZ is a rough matchup (especially when you are just learning them).

In an ideal world, you'd spend every single larva on drones until you need to defend against an attack, at which point you'd quickly pump out a large army just in time to face it. The problem with this is that if you get it wrong and the opponent hits before you're ready then he just rolls over you and it's an instant loss. Cool has a great awareness of what his opponent is doing and a great sense of timing for when he needs to start churning out units. He's also really good at stalling an attack until he can get his units on the field. The best example of this would probably be in his game against TOP on Scrap Station in the ro8 where he had nothing when the Terran started his push and then 15 ultras JUST as the attack reached his base. He could have been making units throughout the game, which would have been safer, but ultimately it would have left him with a smaller army and a weaker economy. Instead he just went heavy on econ in the mid-game (like 90 drones on 3 or 4 bases) and trusted himself to be prepared for the attack when it finally came, making only enough just units to be able to fend off harass until that point. The guy is basically showing everyone how Zerg should be played in SC2.

An example, when he saw that LiveForever was going Banshee after his Reapers, he didnt really do much. He got Lair tech, popped 2 extra queen, got an overseer and got TONNNNNSSSSS of drones because he knew that since LiveForever wouldnt have much to attack with after the early rax into banshee. He went from like 22 drones before the banshee to 40 drones after he repelled it

It could be for a number of reasons he haven't told him. I know many parents that would be less happy to have their child peruse a gaming career rather than like academics. I don't know the situation for Cool, but whatever reason he haven't told them, thousands of dollars will certainly sway anyones opinion. ;=)
