Hello all,
As many more I'm a non-Chinese living in China (studying). I've just recently arrived and played some SC2 in Europe before I left. Loved the game and really want to continue playing while i'm in China, however playing on the EU server is kinda laggy, luckily it's busy on EU server else the time difference would be a pain in the ass too. I've been looking on the forum to find some information on what servers are not laggy etc to play at from China (Beijing in my case). I read that playing at the US server is 'ok' but I would actually prefer to play at the Asian server (Taiwan), cause I hope when the game is released in China it'll merge/join with that server. I'm wondering if there is anyone who played at the Taiwan server, is it busy? Laggy(from China, Beijing)? Somewhat skilled? Or would anyone recommend joining the SEA server? (I read it joined the US server because it was not busy etc.)
Thanks in advance for the replies.

I live in Taiwan and play on the NA server. I have not used the Taiwan server. I see a lot of simplified Chinese names on the TW server leaderboard, which is most likely players from China (could be Singapore).
Yeah it's a little bit laggy playing on the US server, but I'm not good enough that it affects me. I get like 200-300 ping to us servers for any game.
|
From my understanding, most from the Mainland plays either on Taiwan or North America, with Taiwan being slightly less laggy. Taiwanese server is actually quite competitive, with many players such as Sen considered some of the best of the world.
|
I strongly recomend you to join tw server because here in China, network does not as good as other region, e.g. like EU or NA, so tw server is a good choice for you. BTW, as far as i can see, this is no chance for Chinese mainland server to join the tw server, because you can judge from WOW, there is a CWOW and a WOW for tw.

still havent figuered out how to buy the tw version myself.. went to the website through bnet and it said i need a login. made one and never got email verification. where can you buy it online?

I made one and it links you to this site http://www.playsc2.tw/ and when you get there and try to buy the game/add it to your cart it asks for a login info and im stuck on a verification part -_-

I don't have first hand experience, but my cousin living in Taiwan doesn't encounter any problems. From what we've talked about, it should be pretty similar.
|
All right, I also talked to a chinese guy (friend of a friend) who plays SC BW a lot and he recommended TW himself.
Norada I will try to buy it myself this weekend, will let u know if i succeed or not
|
Hey, been lurking for a while but finally decided to make a post, so here we go.
I'm also living in Beijing, studying at the moment. And I've got the TW version of the game, the lag is minimal (200ms ping?) and it is decently competitive I guess, enough for us low level players to play around in. Cheese is kinda very common though.
I've also been looking for a practice partner around Beijing and unfortunately no one I know plays the game beyond the campaign, so hit me up !
|
Sounds awesome. I'm somewhat like a beginner too. Let me PM u when I get my copy downloaded/installed/working/understood(my chinese not too good :p) etc. :-)
|
i've played on taiwan for a month it's a bit laggy... im playing on europe now with guest passes and it seems about the same lagwise, so I guess i'll be staying at europe.... im in shanghai ...
|
I am not sure if Sen plays on Korean server or TW server tho. I think he got both accounts. BTW, maphack is becoming a serious program on TW. I am not sure about NA servers.

Ok that doesn't sound bad to me. Could u tell me what internet provider u are using? Telecom or Unicom?
|
there will be no merge with TW server and China server. the only possibility is a merge of TW and KR server cos they are the same servers physically. I think it's ok to play on TW server especially after the open beta finished.
|
I've read through the thread so I have a few points to make here.
I'm from China and I've played on both kr server and tw server. My highest rank(1on1) on kr server was in silver league(in the beta phase),while I am in Plat league in tw server. It seems both servers are not laggy for me. I've only played in the beta phase on the kr server and another one month trial in tw. I don't know what it's like after 26th,on which day the trial closed,as many players from mainland had been out then. Also, please note that there are two main ISPs in China, namely China Telecomm and China Netcomm. The latter has a better connection with tw.battle.net. I myself is using Netcomm. I think tw server is kinda easy,I have Diamond league to explore though. Actually I've been thinking of buying a US client since the one month trial in tw closed, but I'm not sure if the connection speed permits.

telecom, no unicom here ;( i heard unicom has much faster connections (20mbit), i only have 2 mbit telecom, in a month 4 mbit tho ... yay -_-

The problem for me with the TW version is the game language, I will start my Chinese study next week, so my level of chinese is really low. Playing on the TW version might ruin some fun, unable to campain. However I'm trying to download the EU client here, having some trouble connecting:

Anyone familiar with this? I tried running as administrator, also checked IE proxies stuff. My router doesn't seem to block the port. Does Windows defender block this port or 360FireWall (Chinese virus scan/fire wall etc)?

Don't panic. It is just the infamous GFW blocking the connection with some trackers. You'll get used to it though. Just don't download your client from the official site. It'll cost you years.

i still try and make an account on the one site linked through bnet and it doesnt let me verify.

It says you need to go to your email inbox and check the verification email. Click the verification link in the mail to activate your account!

Norada, I haven't done it myself but have u tried a different e-mail address gmail/yahoo? Sometimes hotmail is a pain? (I suppose u have checked ur spam right.. :-) )

i had the same problem, never played the game before , so i still dont know some unit names and what some research etc does (im too lazy to find it on english sites)... but yea chatting with others can be a bit hard at times at taiwan... I def prefer europe so far, played 21 games now and havent had lag problems (only 1;1 though). Im not sure if the auto matchmaking system picks players that i have little lag with or that it's just good in general... also not sure what my ping is, but the game plays ok, guess that's most important will try playing some games (2on2 or maybe 3on3 or so) with my friends tonight or maybe tmrw or so, then i'll know if that works well..

Kaolla does patching work normally? Or do I also have to maually download patches? Could u possibly recommend a good website the download the patches from? Downloading the enGB installer now using torrents, will take another day or so to complete.. >.<50~100kb/s

I'm thinking of buying the Taiwan version of the game because I can't get a KSSN/phone number to use. So would you say Taiwan or the NA servers are more competitive ?
|
you should go to NA server, it's better
|
On August 31 2010 07:10 PurE)Rabbit-SF wrote: you should go to NA server, it's better
I'm using it right now. I want to play against varied builds, and also run tournaments on an Asian server. Ideally, I'd like to go on KOR but cannot right now because I don't have the identification needed.
|
Update for the people interested: I got the EU version of the game, I had trouble downloading, see post above, but patching works just fine. My account actually got locked after buying the game but I changed pasword and everything was fine again. So far i've played one online game with reasonable latancy. Will update when I've played some more matches online.
|
If I'm reading correctly... The TW game costs over 200 dollars for 'unlimited access'. So I think that settles it for me.
|
ive been playing for a while on europe now from shanghai... about 10 games 3v3 20 2v2 and 50 1v1.. have little to no problems with latency... seems to work just as well as the taiwan version (actually even better, since on taiwan i still disced occasionally)

How do you change what servers you play on?
|
download the corresponding client and add the game to your account for that region (guest pass/beta/key i guess)
|
sounds like too much work and you're not even sure that way works?
|
is there anyway a NA player can connect to the europe servers or korean servers or does it depend on the version of sc2 your bought?
|
On September 02 2010 12:34 fattydakid wrote: is there anyway a NA player can connect to the europe servers or korean servers or does it depend on the version of sc2 your bought?
As you say it depends on the version of SC2 you buy. If you want to play in EU you have to buy the EU version of SC2. If you want to play on the KR server you have to buy the KR game version etc. I hear that blizzard/battlenet CAN change it for you but I'm not sure different sources have different stories so you'd better contact battlenet techsupport about that. Hope that clarifies.
PS. SEA joined up with NA I heard, so maybe in the future more servers will join together? So eventually you can just choose which server you play on, just as in WC3/SCBW? Just a thought though.
|
@Norada If you are living in HK, just buy the game from local store, its cheaper (sometimes) than buying it via blizz store (esp the SEA version which would be around 600HKD but the local store sell it at 490ish)
EDIT: Just checked, the link was from the official forum and they redirect you to that site even when you try to buy it from blizz store...
Did you check your spam box to see if hotmail filtered it as spam?

Hi, its a while since someone posted here.
can someone tell me the pricing of the taiwanese sc2 .. as far as i know its possible to buy playtime.
br
|
I can't give u an exact number but as far as I understand is about 50euro for 'unlimited' play time, like 60US dollar? I'm in China and ended up playing on the EU server (since my chinese isn't that good and never mind traditional chinese). It's quite decent, of course some laggy games every now and then but in general it's good. I can play normally(without any serious lag) with my friends from the Netherlands.
|
On September 02 2010 01:27 Kaolla wrote: download the corresponding client and add the game to your account for that region (guest pass/beta/key i guess) At last some foreigners in Shanghai that play SC :D. Too bad I'm on SEA/US server. From what I can tell. SEA is playable all day round, lag and spike a bit but very playable. The US is very smooth during daytime, but during evening its lag and spikes a lot!. I'm in Shanghai and using China Telecom
|
SEA server hasn't 'joined' the NA server - it is still running - people on the SEA server can have a second account on the NA server without having to buy another copy of the game
|
Seeing as the TW and KR servers are combining I was consider getting a TW account. I have created an account (Thanks to google translate) but am not sure how to add B.NET currency to the account to purchase the game. Does anyone know where I can get this currency OR a TW game key from?
Edit: just seen this thread moments after posting: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=243058

i got mine through pchome.
but now i need some help:
trying to create my account on TW server. i want to name it using korean characters.
if i copy/paste chinese characters, the confirm button (for confirming my account name) will light up. if i manually type chinese characters, the confirm button will not light up, even if i have the minimum number of chars required. if i copy paste korean, nothing shows up in the text box. and i can't manually type it in either (for example if i type 베, and i want to put 스 as the next character, 스, will just overwrite 베. if i press any OTHER button like an arrow, for instance, the letter will just disappear)
...is it only possible to use korean chars on kr server??
i notice no one has a korean name on NA or TW, and no one has chinese name on servers that aren't TW or CN... o_o
