Hello all,
As many more I'm a non-Chinese living in China (studying). I've just recently arrived and played some SC2 in Europe before I left. Loved the game and really want to continue playing while i'm in China, however playing on the EU server is kinda laggy, luckily it's busy on EU server else the time difference would be a pain in the ass too. I've been looking on the forum to find some information on what servers are not laggy etc to play at from China (Beijing in my case). I read that playing at the US server is 'ok' but I would actually prefer to play at the Asian server (Taiwan), cause I hope when the game is released in China it'll merge/join with that server. I'm wondering if there is anyone who played at the Taiwan server, is it busy? Laggy(from China, Beijing)? Somewhat skilled? Or would anyone recommend joining the SEA server? (I read it joined the US server because it was not busy etc.)
Thanks in advance for the replies.

I live in Taiwan and play on the NA server. I have not used the Taiwan server. I see a lot of simplified Chinese names on the TW server leaderboard, which is most likely players from China (could be Singapore).
Yeah it's a little bit laggy playing on the US server, but I'm not good enough that it affects me. I get like 200-300 ping to us servers for any game.

From my understanding, most from the Mainland plays either on Taiwan or North America, with Taiwan being slightly less laggy. Taiwanese server is actually quite competitive, with many players such as Sen considered some of the best of the world.
|
I strongly recomend you to join tw server because here in China, network does not as good as other region, e.g. like EU or NA, so tw server is a good choice for you. BTW, as far as i can see, this is no chance for Chinese mainland server to join the tw server, because you can judge from WOW, there is a CWOW and a WOW for tw.

You have to make a taiwanese account by going to tw.battle.net to register.

I made one and it links you to this site http://www.playsc2.tw/ and when you get there and try to buy the game/add it to your cart it asks for a login info and im stuck on a verification part -_-

I don't have first hand experience, but my cousin living in Taiwan doesn't encounter any problems. From what we've talked about, it should be pretty similar.
|
All right, I also talked to a chinese guy (friend of a friend) who plays SC BW a lot and he recommended TW himself.
Norada I will try to buy it myself this weekend, will let u know if i succeed or not

Hey, been lurking for a while but finally decided to make a post, so here we go.
I'm also living in Beijing, studying at the moment. And I've got the TW version of the game, the lag is minimal (200ms ping?) and it is decently competitive I guess, enough for us low level players to play around in. Cheese is kinda very common though.
I've also been looking for a practice partner around Beijing and unfortunately no one I know plays the game beyond the campaign, so hit me up !

Sounds awesome. I'm somewhat like a beginner too. Let me PM u when I get my copy downloaded/installed/working/understood(my chinese not too good :p) etc. :-)

i've played on taiwan for a month it's a bit laggy... im playing on europe now with guest passes and it seems about the same lagwise, so I guess i'll be staying at europe.... im in shanghai ...
|
I am not sure if Sen plays on Korean server or TW server tho. I think he got both accounts. BTW, maphack is becoming a serious program on TW. I am not sure about NA servers.

Ok that doesn't sound bad to me. Could u tell me what internet provider u are using? Telecom or Unicom?
|
there will be no merge with TW server and China server. the only possibility is a merge of TW and KR server cos they are the same servers physically. I think it's ok to play on TW server especially after the open beta finished.
|
I've read through the thread so I have a few points to make here.
I'm from China and I've played on both kr server and tw server. My highest rank(1on1) on kr server was in silver league(in the beta phase),while I am in Plat league in tw server. It seems both servers are not laggy for me. I've only played in the beta phase on the kr server and another one month trial in tw. I don't know what it's like after 26th,on which day the trial closed,as many players from mainland had been out then. Also, please note that there are two main ISPs in China, namely China Telecomm and China Netcomm. The latter has a better connection with tw.battle.net. I myself is using Netcomm. I think tw server is kinda easy,I have Diamond league to explore though. Actually I've been thinking of buying a US client since the one month trial in tw closed, but I'm not sure if the connection speed permits.

telecom, no unicom here ;( i heard unicom has much faster connections (20mbit), i only have 2 mbit telecom, in a month 4 mbit tho ... yay -_-

The problem for me with the TW version is the game language, I will start my Chinese study next week, so my level of chinese is really low. Playing on the TW version might ruin some fun, unable to campain. However I'm trying to download the EU client here, having some trouble connecting:

Anyone familiar with this? I tried running as administrator, also checked IE proxies stuff. My router doesn't seem to block the port. Does Windows defender block this port or 360FireWall (Chinese virus scan/fire wall etc)?

Don't panic. It is just the infamous GFW blocking the connection with some trackers. You'll get used to it though. Just don't download your client from the official site. It'll cost you years.
