Isn't this basically how Fantasy won everything?
You're missing the point. The point is that both players know the map and what each race is capable of on it, and the better player a) Knew about it because of practicing the same maps over and over again and was able to counter it on the biggest stage of Starcraft, and b) It makes for much more entertaining games as it rewards player skill instead of chance.

And yes, Fantasy is good with vultures. xd
One of my favorite moments in starcraft EVER. Jaedong was down 0-2 to Fantasy in the Batoo OSL finals, he fights back to 2-2. The final game is on Medusa which Fantasy had already won on in set 1. Would the players go for the same play? Would Fantasy go mech again and neutralize Jaedong's muta? Well, Fantasy uses a map trick to get a vulture inside Jaedong's backdoor. This vulture could be the begging of the end of Jaedong's comeback, but waiting to meet it are 2 lings and a drone. HOLY FUCKING SHIT. Jaedong makes the vulture convulse and die, and the lings and drone go back to work like it never happened. Jaedong wins the game and cements himself as a mental monster, the top player at the time, and the best zerg to have ever played.
What does this have to do with maps you may ask. Fantasy had prepared this trick as something he would do in the final set of a championship, having not done it in game 1, to surprise his opponent, gain an advantage and steamroll him with mech. Jaedong predicts as much AND KNOWS THE ABSOLUTE TIMING and counters it with a ridiculous unit composition. It's almost as if Jaedong had an alarm set. And the fact that he sent a drone as well is really telling. He had practiced this map more times that any of us would believe since it would be played twice, and he probably had that trick work against him. He probably tried to counter it in the past with just his 2 lings, and had failed to stop it. SO HE SENDS A FUCKING DRONE as well.
I am ranting now, but I don't care. I loved this 20 seconds of starcraft. It makes me tingle just thinking about it. Having only a limited number of maps to prepare for, and especially have the same map for the 1st and last set is amazing. It makes the matches so much deeper than the constraints of the game and it helps create a narrative that is engrossing and exciting.

That's what I said, except with less passion xd
Good on you, mate. That's exactly what Day9/Artosis/Tyler was talking about. And its not only that, these maps are used in the earlier rounds/proleague and previously existing winners league, so a lot of these get flushed out but there are the players like Jaedong who scout with overlords that a stray Vulture is coming, know about this map feature and the timing, how to counter it and executes it. It's a hallmark of a great player and makes for awesome spectator viewing, storylines etc.
finally a decent time for interested eu guys too, just realized it. horrible for koreans obviously, but i doubt many watch sotg. i will def. tune in tonight

Will Artosis be on nevertheless? I mean, I doubt he'll be on a show at 6am.

That should be a fine time, if he wants to squeeze in a show in his time schedule before going to work. He probably doesn't get much sleep anyways, with a little baby in his apartment. Anyways, I hope he will be on the show. And I hope JP listens to the fans and invite a terran player to discuss the patch.
I would also like a terran to come on the show just to tell other terran players that things will be fine and rock them to sleep.
If only to not hear Geoff talk about protoss anymore, or hear about "ZOMG GUYS PROTOSS IN THE ROUND OF EIGHT ARE PROTOSS OKAY NOW?! PROTOSS?! PROTOSS?!?!? DID YOU HEAR ABOUT PROTOSS?!!?!?!? PROTOSS!!!!"
fuck. i dont care what each host plays frankly, either have an objective opinion and talk about each race and stop blowing your wad about protoss every week or just stop talking about races in general. it's old. -
