I don't know why people have problems with Day9 being modest about his opinions. He knows that on a skill level, he's way under everybody else, since he doesn't have as much practical experience as the others. Has no one ever thought that Day9 starts his days early and ends his days early? I remember him mentioning he gets up at like 6. I mean he usually stops streaming a daily around 11-12 est, and the latest he's ever on a stream is Tuesdays on SotG (with the exception of this week when he was streaming Amnesia). Maybe he just goes to bed around 10-10:30 pst >.> Shouldn't the fact that he has to leave midway through every episode clue people in that maybe he has something scheduled at that time every week?

That's two different things, I think. The example he gave was just an example for that one specific time when he had problems with his microphone. The thing you refer to (I think) is the overall change in his casting in the last six months or so.+ Show Spoiler +
Personally I like the more analysis/less OOOoohhhAhhhhh Day9 much more but that's irrelevant

But he follows the pro-scene, right? I'm actually not sure what he spends his time on as I don't watch the daily, but I thought he always kept up on tournaments and such. You would think that he would have more input, being an opinionated individual who was at blizzcon. Day[9] is much less of an important person in the community now than he was in the past. It used to be the case that he casted just about every tournament and was universally beloved by everyone. Now it has gotten to the point where he is the person with the webshow that has a niche audience who casts MLG despite people who would prefer other casters. You can't open the SotG thread anymore without people complaining about his input, much less the MLG live report threads where it's endless criticism of his various mannerisms or his casting style that leaves no room for co-casters so much.

To be honest, I can't stand his casting anymore even if I was a major fan of his dailies at the start of Starcraft II. I just stopped watching them and every time I catch one now I get annoyed at his super-quirky behavior. But that's fine I guess, tastes differ. He certainly has contributed a great deal to Starcraft II. It'd be fair to say he has helped the Western scene develop more than anyone else with maybe just a few exceptions. I suppose most of those accomplishments are in the past now and I'm not so sure about the future, but we'll see.
Well, now I tell you, I never seen good come o' goodness yet. Him as strikes first is my fancy; dead men don't bite; them's my views--amen, so be it.

Honestly I think his modest opinions are usually a case of wisdom coming with age. When you're older it's a lot easier to not tow-the-line and jump to conclusions based on short-term trends. Just because say terran wins 6 major tournaments in a row, which happens to be every major tournament for 3 months, doesn't mean terran is overpowered. Don't get me wrong, in that I'm not saying terran is/was or isn't/wasn't, this is just an example. It could just be a streak of terrans getting lucky. If you're a randomizing a number from 1 to 3, getting the same number 6 times in a row is improbable, but it doesn't mean the randomizing is broken.

As for new units, it's hard to make a fair judgement based on a short amount of time playing. Not wanting to give a strong opinion about something you know very little about isn't something I would consider abnormal. Day[9] has generally struck me as a modest person, albeit excitable.

Not really niche if he gets the most viewers every day out of all the streams. 10k+ is nothing to laugh at. 13mil total views too. And I dunno about you, but I've heard more criticisms against JP, Wheat, and Husky than I've ever heard against Day9. If people asked for casters at a tournament, their number one choice would usually be Tastosis and then Day9 right after.

On the new units front. A lot of pros aren't putting a whole lot of energy trying to theorycraft them. I mean, if people think a statement like "I think the replicator should stay because zerg units in the Protoss army will make the army weaker" from Idra is a good well thought out comment, then actual insightful analysis must blow their minds. Even last episode, a lot of the "thumbs up/thumbs down" analysis was satirical. They like the idea, but at this point and time, almost all the units are broken and unbalance the game.

Add that to the fact that almost everything you can say about the new units was already said last week, then there's not much left for anyone to talk about.

im not going to even bother commenting on your other posts or try to argue with u about this subject, but its obvious u have no idea or clue about anything day9 does. so on that note i suggest u stop commenting about something you know nothing about.

the underlined bolded sentence in particular lets me know how ignorant you are. day 9 has litterally dedicated his entire life FULL TIME to starcraft 2. he lives, sleeps, and eats this game just as he did with BW. to say he "isnt interested in the game" is the most ignorant thing you can say about day 9.

get a clue, and if you cant get a clue then just shut up and not spew utter BS and lies about a person.

i mean u can not like the man, but dont spread slanderous lies about him or act as if he isnt interested in the game. i cant beleive someone would even say he isnt..... day 9 is one of if not the most passionate person u can find about anything starcraft related.

Every popular caster, actually anyone popular in the scene, gets hated on. Its Just the nature of things.

Day9 is still one of the best casters around. Haters are more vocal than fans most of the time. But still day9's 10k+ viewers a night and being invited to nearly every tournament he can do shows he is insanely popular. He has the most twitter followers of any sc2 figure and has that title by far. So despite some of the hate he receives on TL, its really nothing in the big picture.

Incontrol did a very good job for a first-time host, but man, his absence makes me see just how good JP is at what he does. It's actually amazing when you think about it.

Seriously? I percieved incontrol to be an actual moderator that.. you know... moderates? Despite the not-so-great topics and the really lackluster user questions it became a fun little group, though he didn't let Destiny say much I had the feeling.

The best thing that could happen to the show would be for incontrol to take over the moderator spot permanently, let JP become some sort of community pillar, replace Day[9] (sorry, he is great, but as mentioned before seems to be lacking interest) with a Terran (TLO!) and bring on Idra for the Zergs. Don't like Idra too much, but at least he sparks nice discussions and has a clear opinion.

It seems like the old pillars of Day[9] and Nony are crumbling..

I definitely agree with you that iNcontroL is an outstanding host/ moderator (this isn't the first time he's led a discussion like this, btw), but are you seriously comparing Tyler's level of engagement and discussion to Day[9]'s? Tyler almost never says anything, and when he does he has absolutely no emotion. Day[9] actually has emotional conversations that spark debates, and sometimes even soliloquies. And he actually does StarCraft related things for the community on a regular basis, unlike Tyler.

You people are so incredibly sensitive. There was literally one person that had a somewhat hateful opinion of Day9 (Nash), this does not entitle you to spam the thread with sad stories about how Day9 is hated on.

...so? Do you want the whole scene to revolve around one person? Day9 is still an important part of it but he can not possibly be everywhere - and doesn't have to anyway.

He doesn't have to be cocky about his opinions... We'd just like to hear more of them, I think. Especially on a show like SotG.

No one is hating on him? People are being critical, which is different and is something Day9 has often asked for (because he's totally awesome and knows that this could only help him).

I think you just fell for a troll LOL

I doubt anybody is that ridiculously ignorant. A good troll would have knowledge of what day9 is really like and say the exact opposite, which is exactly what this guy just did. He's probably well aware that Day9 is more interested in the game than pretty much anybody and is very opinionated so he claimed the opposite to get a reaction

Hell, all you have to do is look at day9's wall during a daily and you can pretty much tell he's obsessed :D
