Some media training or at least some classes in public speaking should be really helpful to the growth of e-sports. Sure every pro gamer looking like Brad Pitt wouldn't hurt, but you can go really far with charisma. And I'm sure most gamers have that charisma, they just aren't comfortable enough in the public to really make it show. What I do when I'm doing business presentations is I step into the role of my title. That makes the title responsible for any mistake or screw-up. It helps me shield my ego and most insecurity goes away. If pro-gamers can just step into this role as a gamer and an e-sports ambassador (© Day[9]) when being interviewed I'm sure they'll come across more professional than if they wear $500 crocodile skin shoes and keeps staring at them when spoken to. Edit: Also, a uniform (or a suit which is basically the uniform of the white collar employees) help you separate your ego from your profession. So, go go Korean style gaming uniforms!

Idra would be an example of someone who doesn't always represent their community properly (With the BM and inappropriate behavior ingame). I on the contrary believe that real emotion is important to make the game successful in the west.

My thought is that with the advent of sponsors being representable to the public becomes more important. Over time it will be the responsibility and in the automatic interest of sponsors that their clients are representable. As western sponsors become more involved I am certain that western progamers will be further incentivized to take care in their appearance.

If you want people to take you seriously, shower, shave and wear clean appropriate clothes. And with the way society works, you will find that being fit rather than overweight is a plus as well. I'm pretty sure they use stylists. That is what Western gamers need. Ok, if you aren't pulling big tournament income you can't afford to hire a professional stylist, but surely you have a friend or a sibling or a friend of a sibling who knows something about looking good and it really usually doesn't take that much to pull someone from disgusting slob to presentable. It doesn't even take a suit and shining black leather shoes, the difference between a t-shirt that fits and one that doesn't is amazing. Not everyone has to look like a boy-toy either. You can look rugged, just don't look like you live in a basement.

Not everyone is a super model of course, but a shower, shave, decent set of clothes, and a non-awkward speech pattern go a long way.

I think he was incredibly articulate and well spoken...but he still looked like a massive nerd, which, I don't blame him for one bit (I'm a nerd too), it's just that it maintains a stereotypical image which the majority of people will be prejudiced about.
