Aren't there advantages in using a 16 monitor compared to a 16:10?
|
1280x800 is 16:10, not 5:4.. 1280x1024 is 5:4.

Personally I prefer 16:10, it has more screen area and fullscreen 4:3 videos look better. I think it's mostly personal preference.

16 gets a slight viewing area advantage in Starcraft II.
|
I prefer 16:10 but you get more viewing space under 16:9 for sc2 which is odd because it's usually the other way around.

Whatever, you know what i mean

After a while of having a widescreen monitor, I couldn't imagine anything but 16:10. Everything just seems.....odd compared to that.
|
1440 x 900, I play in 16
|
16:10, but I use my 40" samsung tv as my main monitor. my dual screen is a 22" samsung monitor
|
|
|
1920 x 1080 on a 24" LG.
I haven't played on any other resolutions.. does widescreen/non-widescreen change the total viewable terrain, or do things just looked squished in non-widescreen action?
|
Could you play on 800x600? I thought the min was 1024x768
|
SC2 is optimized for 16-9. You see more horizontally than any other res. You also see the same vertically as any other. 16:10 is very close, so no worries. 4:3 and, god-forbid, 5:4 users are hurting a bit. If you have a 1280x1024 LCD and want the widescreen advantage try to figure out a way to letterbox your display so you can do 1280x720 or 1280x800.

Why is it called 16:10 anyways, logic dictates that it would be 8:5 seeing as you go for the lowest common denominator, but I digress. 16 here, I´m as standard as you could get.

I'm sure its because 16: 9 ruined the formula. It was suppose to be 4:3 5:4 8:5 but 16: 9 is nothing else, so now by relation its 16: 9 and 16:10 and we let 4:3 and 5:4 go to the way of the dinosaur.

16:10, cuz thats closest to the golden ratio.
|
whatever 1440x900 is... lol, i think it's 16 : 9
EDIT:: nvm, it's 16:10
|

playing on 1280x1024, god i need a widescreen screen >.<

For everyone's benefit ...
1920x1080 = 16|9 1900x1200 = 16|10 1440x900 = 16|10 1280x1024 = 5|4 1280x800 = 16|10 1280x720 = 16|9 1024x768 = 4|3 800x600 = 4|3
First post is wrong. 1280x800 is NOT 5|4
|
16x10 is the best aspect ratio to play at. It gives the widest vision, the largest field of view. I have a 16:10 monitor (1920x1200) but play at 1920x1080 and have, in my driver options, set to force aspect ratio (Small black bars on top and bottom, like a movie) This way, the image is not distorted in any way.

You now realize that 16:10 is actually 8:5.

1920x1080 I'd like to be able to se a 16:10 but the picture becomes slightly pixelated (16 is native). I don't want to see that >.> Oh well upgrades upgrades

1920x1200, 28'' 16:10.
Looks pretty awesome. I'm curious to how it looks in 16: 9, and if it's much different.
|
There's only slight difference between 16x9 and 16x10. If you game on the latter you really don't have to worry.

5:4 is even worse than 4:3. Ouch.

Does anyone play on their plasma tvs? (37" and up?) I'm concidering playing on my 42 plasma, wondering if it's harder or more preferred over a 20" 4:3 monitor
|
It shouldn't surprise anyone that Blizzard went Hor+ instead of Ver- for 16: 9 support. They did the same for WoW. Most likely do the same for D3 as well. It's their normal route... thank god.
If you don't know the difference look at the picture above, but think of it in reverse. As the screen grows horizontally more is shown. This is the norm for things like 5:4, 4:3, but many games like to use Ver- for 16: 9 and 16:10. Which is very frustrating. For strategy games in particular it's often required to play in 16:10 on a 16: 9 monitor due to it. Check http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/wiki/FAQ#Screenchange if you'd like to see just how harmful Ver- can be. Especially if a game is designed for 4:3 and uses Ver-. Going to 16: 9 on that game would result in the loss of over 20% of your vertical space. Ouch.
You should also include 15: 9 in the poll though. 1600x960 and the like.
Side note: 16: 9 is not the odd-man-out. 16:10 is. See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aspect_ratio_(image)#Why_16:9_was_chosen_by_the_SMPTE
16:10 ratios are meant primarily for looking at two documents side by side.

Wat.

16: 9 , i haven't used other than the 4:3 back in time, dunno how it would feel to play it on 16:10.
|
|
I play on 16:10, but I'll probably letterbox it and try 16: 9 when the game is released. I imagine most top-level players will go down that route as well if they haven't already.
Keep making those maps ProdiG - yours are some of the best.

I'm at a 1680x1050. :x Not really sure where that fits in.
