Can you give us any info about Blizzards plan for E-Sports in the west?

ChrisSi answered

"esports is very important to us at Blizzard and especially for SC2.We do plan on releasing a patch in the months after launch to address the needs of pro tournaments and eSports, so as we get closer to that we'll have more news to share about our plans for eSports overall"

"any rumors you've heard about a "pro edition" are just rumors. We've made no official announcements about that. We will address the needs of pro tournaments and eSports in a patch in the months after the release of SC2."

They wont have LAN in the retail game.

I disagree that it has been lost. Seeker Missile, Psi Storm, EMP, Fungal Growth, Neural Parasite all require in-combat targeting to be effective. In addition we have a lot more micro required by some of our units. You can get more out of a Hellion than you could a Firebat, you can get more out of Stalker Blink than you could a Dragoon. We have (we think) MORE micro than SC1, not less.

well, sc2 has more micro related to unit handling and abilities. sc1 had more micro related to "UI".

Hm. Seems like they aren't going to take any more questions about the regions issue. Ah well.

meh im currently trying to sneak in a few esports questions that are kinda in the grey area that no one has mentioned much =/

DustinB
Professional BroodWar maps are for professional broodwar players.=) We are not planning on introducing those types of maps to the ladder in the near future. Ladder maps are smaller and less complicated on purpose because they have to serve a much wider community than the top 1% of players. We expect that professional players will be making their own maps and we will see more and more of those in tournament play going forward.

this was in regards to a question about map size etc... so after a few months the ladder becomes pointless im assuming?

Though they did say earlier that they would be adding user-made maps to the map pool, we'll have to see how this goes.

I have no problem with that as long as they constantly change the map pool and incorporate some user maps (which they say they will do). Tournaments should make their own maps specifically for pro-gaming.

but if tournaments make their own maps etc... the ladder becomes a place where players just chill and no one good will ever play on it. making the ladder a horrible place for competition. so then what will be the point to things like the Pro league and its single division etc..

They said that the pro league would function differently than the other leagues so maybe the pro league also gets a different map pool?

I am not going to lie that question really made me sad. Its sad to know that the ladder is going to be dead and there won't exactly be a substitute like iccup to go play more "competitively". It sounds like blizzard is really boning us if they really plan on all their maps to be less complicated, and smaller like steppes -_-.

This really is annoying because if the good players don't ladder and only practice against themselves then they will be the only ones really improving. Maybe i'm over thinking it but one of my biggest concerns now
When I think of something else, something will go here

What I don't understand is they're pushing this as an e-sport, yet they aren't going to keep the maps relevant with what's being used in major tournaments. What's the point in laddering if you can't use it for practice due to none of the maps being what's used in tournaments? Not to mention it kinda screws aspiring players to break into the scene since I'd assume most of what they play is ladder. Just doesn't seem like a good decision to me. They really need to rotate the current set of maps with the seasons to coincide with what's being used in tournys even if they still use some of their own Blizz-made maps imo.
