This prob will be closed due to my shitty ability to post but w.e
So, in bnet 1.0, there were a couple of commands one can type that I want to bring to tl's attention
1. /dnd "Do Not Disturb" - prevents ALL whispers from displaying to your screen. Its use is similar to the /away command. To turn the DND mode off, just type /dnd without a reason. This will prevent people from sending whispers to you while in a game as well. You are still able to see all normal public channel messages.
2. /away Displays a message that you are away from your keyboard whenever someone whispers to you or does a /whois command on you. To disable this command, use the command again.
3. /ignore *name* Ignores any future messages from that user effectively muting that user to you.
4. (and by far my favourite) /ban *name*Kicks a user out of the channel and prevents them from returning until the current operator steps down or leaves the channel. aka BANHAMMER
when u take a look at these commands, u gotta wonder:
Shouldn't that be ENOUGH to deal with spamming in a chat room?
I mean, blizzard already decided that only 1 account can be made for 1 key. wouldnt that effectively shut down any spambots? because the spamming in a channel is due to spambots (i have yet to see a "live" person spam the shit out of a channel). and if these commands arent good enough, why not introduce some new ones
5. /mutechat (or /mc for short) Messages from chat screen are are muted for the user
6. /mutemsg (/mm) Private messages will be blocked (similar to offline msgs on MSN)
or if typing commands like DOS is "so 2002", why not have button interface like the single player that does all these commands? seems kinda pointless to have such perks in the single player and not the multiplayer
so, in theory, wouldnt that solve the spam problems blizzard is facing *sarcasm*.

If you've ever been in a Dota league channel when it is under attack, you would realize that it is indeed not just a fake deal. There are actually concerns that happen with spam.
if you havent been in it, a script randomly generates names, enters the channel, (which creates a message) spams the chat, and the league bot has to one by one ban the names, which lags the channel, and floods the chat with even more messages.
However, I agree, that we should have chat. I just dont think its fair to discredit the power of spammers.

Well in this case the spammer would have to buy the game to be able to do this... and buy it again once he gets banned so really spamming shouldn't be that big of an issue.
|
ok, so maybe there are still times that spam can occur (ie. tl attack). u can still implement commands like filtering ppl who u want to see on chat
|
Blizzard: "Chat Spammers win, there is no possible way of stopping you, now we will not implement chat altogether. Good Game well played."

I think this assumes that each copy of the game can only link to one account. In WoW and BW, after you buy the game you can make multiple accounts. Although right now during beta you can only have one I have to assume that once SC2 is released you will be able to hold multiple accounts per copy of the game.

not allowing chatrooms because of spammers is allowing the spammers to win.

Blizzard has made it quite clear that they will only allow one account per key.

Is blizzard not implementing chatrooms because of spam?
I thought they just think their 1on1 chat is far superior.
Either way, chatrooms can't hurt the game or community. So I don't see a reason why chatrooms don't exist. Spammers shouldn't even be a problem considering how restrictive blizzard is making our access to bnet.
|
i always thought the main reason is spam. and their 1v1 chat is pretty much the exact same as the original bnet

But imagine if you have like 5+ people playing together. I'm not even sure if a party can hold more than 4 people. Even if you can, you're not gonna be able to join games with 5 people because most likely the game will say "Not enough slots to host game" or some shit like that.
The fact that you have to invite every single person into a party just to talk is already a nuisance. In BW, you just tell your friends to join a certain channel. DONE, we're talking now. No more inviting, accepting BS that blizzard implemented.

Blizzard was able to stop spam in WoW pretty quickly and easily in just one patch. I don`t see why they couldn`t do it again.
|
But the question is: Do you REALLY want to spam?
On a more serious note, I don't see spam being a problem if they actually implemented chat rooms given the one-account-per-purchase thing.
