I don't even post here, but I felt this interview was so retarded that I had to vent somewhere. Looks like whoever the fuck is managing BNET 0.5 just doesn't know shit about communities. That's what I'd like to say, but it's almost common sense to see how all of what we want are obvious boons to their service - so why the fuck are they not doing it? There are plenty of options for managing spam and shit, chat channels provide so much more benefits with little maintenance. There's absolutely no way they could be that stupid, even if I want to believe it. They've got some stuff they want to change and they know full well they're screwing up badly but just want to cover it up with delays and fancy shit no one cares about.
I don't even play starcraft that much, I suck at this game compared to most people here, I'm what you would call a 'casual' - but even I can obviously tell they're being stupid in the direction of where they're taking BNET. And if the 'casuals' are recognizing this, I'm pretty sure that means they've failed badly at trying to revolutionize the platform.
I would take the old BNET anyday over this.

Do i tell these players they need to buy 2 more copies of starcraft 2 in order to play each other? Or do i encourage them to break Blizzard's ToS by sharing accounts in order to play?
I know Blizzard keeps saying they are here to support esports but....maybe someone should do some investigation into the needs of people who run/take part in these events.
I'm picturing the devil going: "BUY MORE COPIES!!!!!!!"

The cross realm thing is hilarious because blizzard admits that they *could* just let the players log onto the other server, but that they won't and instead you have to buy a 2nd copy of the game.

Summary of the article: "No."
Change league system - No. Name changing - No. Clans - No. Map Marketplace - No. Cross region play - No. Chat rooms - NO. Bnet desktop client - No. Favorite unit - No. (I'm not kidding, he said no) Favorite character - No. Lurker - No. WarCraft models in map editor - No. LAN after validating online - Question dodged, then question rephraseed, then NO.
So disappointing, I thought this was a joke.

I think Blizzard should be really concerned that the game they have spent TONS of money on, and has been working on for the past 10 years (Or at least, they probably started thinking about SC 2 10 years ago) is getting 96% of their fans going 'We dont like where this is going'
To most people, that would be a sign to stop and have a look at what you are doing...

Im fkin SPEECHLESS. I had my hopes up still, maybe they would pull their heads out of their asses.
You know what the worst part is? That they dont listen to us. He didnt even know this was features we have asked for, loudly, for months. AND HE ACTS LIKE HE DONT KNOW. maybe listen to your beta testers next time...

Well, maybe if more of the Blizzard staff votes...

If you read the thread you'd know he helped found Blizzard. I think that is the root of a lot of the problems with this article. He does not work on SC2 or probably on any game in more than a managerial sense. Higher-ups like Frank can have their minds changed, believe it or not, and it's Dustin & co.'s job to convince them of what is best for the game.
Be vocal and persistent.

Someone needs to photo'shop up a picture of him with the title of "Do u want chat roomz?.." and "Fail much?" below it.

He wasn't hired ):
This man is the founder of Blizzard.

All of the time they say, that they care what community says, that people gather info about all that and stuff, but WTF? He still manages to ask "Do you really want chatrooms?" ..?????!!? Thats like one of the biggest complaints. Its obvious that they are just hear what they want to.
|
After seeing this, I think I have officially taken Starcraft 2 off of my buy list for the year.
Blizzard is screwing the community with a rusty plank, and its not pretty.
What the hell are they thinking? Besides the poor balancing, latency issues, lack of cross region support, no lan, no chat, hinderance of custom content through file size caps, the current league system, the name system, and integration of facebook, THEY GIVE AWAY OUR INFORMATION TO ANYONE!!!! It is friggin ridiculous.
I am not going to buy an inferior product, sorry Blizzard!

Poll: "Do you really want chat rooms?"Yes, we REALLY DO. (343) 97% Nah, we're just kidding. (9) 3% 352 total votes Your vote: "Do you really want chat rooms?" (Vote): Yes, we REALLY DO. (Vote): Nah, we're just kidding.
Let's try and answer his question!

This is pretty ridiculous. I'm trying to see it from Blizzard's point of view but it doesn't add up. Chat channels aren't always a place you go to "hang out" on Battle.net as they seem to believe. If you're trying to coordinate with more than 3 other people at a time, you need some kind of core chatroom to do that. The party system just isn't large enough. Parties are for getting 2v2s, 3v3s, 4v4s going and that's it, and maybe 1v1 with obs. What if you want team games with obs? Having a pop-up window with a chat channel and being able to invite players from that channel without having to add them to your friends list beforehand is the logical way to go. Everything about Bnet is so roundabout and there's just no effective way to do anything other than use the AMM.
There are obvious downsides to chatrooms, such as spambots, channel wars, and just spam in general. I can see why they want to eliminate those things, but the upsides to chatrooms far outweigh the downsides. War3's Bnet struck a good balance -- chat was optional, but at least it was there! They don't even need to add generic "login" channels, just add private channels where you can tell 4 or more of your friends to gather on a regular basis.

Hey guys.
Actually blizzard is an awesome company and all of this is fully explainable because they want more money. Getting money means better games from them, so we should give up game quality to get better game quality.
I really hope that we can avoid pointless grinding and just buy items in diablo 3 straight from a marketplace, or that we have the option of buying cow level runs.
Cheers :3.
