There's this completely mistaken notion that in the past you could just phone Blizzard up and ask them to put something in the game for you and they'd happily oblige. Personally, I feel it was the opposite. Blizzard has been more open and transparent in the last few years than they EVER were in the past. Blizzard has always been incredibly notorious for "knowing best." They release their games when they want to in the manner they want to. They didn't answer to players on the forums about design nearly as often as they do now, nor were there even avenues to communicate with players as consistently like there are now. The SC Legacy article touches on this as well, or maybe it was the other article linked. About how Blizz didn't really care about fansites until a few years ago. Blizzard added the replay function like 3 years after the game was released, to please their community, just as 1 example. They are very much known for listening to their fans, and trying hard to please them. You not knowing this obviously leads me to believe that you really dont know what you are even talking about....but thats just my opinion.

I watched the video in this thread about a tour of Blizzard studios: http://sclegacy.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5028 I watched it to the end. Outside of Blizzard's HQ lies a statue of an orc riding his wolf with several plaques on the ground encircling it. They state, very clearly, what Blizzard has been doing since the beginning. They have been doing it exceedingly well, and Blizzard is hugely respected for what they have done. But, so far, with B.net 2.0 they seem to be forgetting what they are great for. What do the plaques say? "Dedicated to creating the most epic entertainment experiences... ever." "Think globally" "Lead responsibly" "Learn and grow" "Embrace your inner geek" "Commit to quality" "Gameplay first" This is the embodiment of Blizzard Entertainment. This IS Blizzard. B.net 2.0 is anything BUT Blizzard. It is not an epic experience, it is a confined space that feels desperately lonely. It does not think globally, it restricts you to your region and only your region. It has done anything but grow or correct its past mistakes. It is not high quality as it is lacking in so many features. Finally, releasing the game with its features as they are right now, is irresponsible and puts money ahead of gameplay. My favorite one is "Think Globally"...HA On June 12 2010 12:26 eXigent. wrote: Blizzard added the replay function like 3 years after the game was released, to please their community, just as 1 example. This means that all characters will be wiped, and without access to the beta to create new characters, posting on these beta forums will no longer be possible. -Bashiok And anyone who thinks these same kinds of plan changes can't be applied to promised battlenet features (chat, xrealm) well.... No, this is what they did so they dont have to listen to the complaints.

As it was stated by a blizzard poster, the reason there is going to be no ability to post in the beta forums is because they are doing a database wipe in order to test the servers therefore no one will have an account from which to post. They are not taking down the forums, it is just no one will be able to post there as the system runs off active b.net2.0 accounts. The general forums will still be open, and everyone can bitch as much as they like there as per usual.

Was that the one that came out like just before the release of Frozen Throne? Because all of those features were really Frozen Throne features. The general forums will still be open, and everyone can bitch as much as they like there as per usual. The point is that a blue issued a statement saying their were no plans to close the BNET forums and then 4 days later issues a statement saying that the BNET forums will be closed in the next few days. Now tell me. When stuff like that can happen what kind of confidence do you have in the statement that Blizzard plans to deal with cross realm gameplay sometime in the long term? Also I dont know if you guys have seen this From what I can see the community has voiced a concern that there will be no LAN support. I think this should be discussed. What is your oppinion on this? Can you shed any light as to why the decision was made - light that goes beyond the "better gameplay experience" vaguaries? What backs it up - i.e. could you walk us through the logic on this? It's very hard to understand from a consumer/gamer perspective - the jump to say that it's a way or protecting against "piracy" rather than a legitimate gameplay improvement is just too easy to make. There is also the question of region swapping, which is in another post on these forums. There I asked Kapeselus where he was getting the data from regarding playing on a cross region. That thread epitomizes the "He said" "She said" discourse that we are now engaged in - the community is saying that there is no latency issue and the community managers are maintaining that there is a latency issue. Is there any kind of in depth (perhaps technical?) discussion that can be had on this issue? If you can show it to us the matter should be settled and, frankly, I'd love if it could just be set to rest. As much as I would like the ability to swap regions I'd like it even more if we could just see some hard facts behind the assertion that its not technologically possible - it would really put my mind at ease (along with the minds of many others). This is one of the things, that might just get the thread to derail, so just one quick answer and then any future reference of this won't get a comment. We know these are topics you care about, but this is not a topic, were we can pull any useful information out of when discussing it in this thread. Sorry, feel free to discuss this further amongst yourselves, but don't ask for a blue post on this here. -Xordiah If that isnt the proverbial "We dont even care about you enough to give you a honest answer." than I dont know what is.....

The only thing I'm worried about is for cross country tournaments, will we be able to use these servers, with blizzard cracking down on streaming Starcraft from korea, they might make some silly rule about official servers... Lets just hope not ![]()

Do the community managers actually manage the community and tell the big man upstairs that the community is pissed or do they just maximize a browser with the forums on it every thirty minutes and delete/ban half the forum? More importantly, do they notice the same people they have banned so many times its not even funny anymore, keep coming back? We're painfully aware. I won't make any excuses as to why forum communication took a dive, but it seems that we're starting to get our heads above water again and hopefully we can get our activity in all of our forums back up (SC2 isn't the only place that has suffered). I don't know. Maybe that's being too optimistic. Personally I've really been waiting to get our information and responses solidified for the big key issues. There's almost no point in posting unless we can hit the main concerns. It's in the works. Soon. And all that. -Bashiok Ill keep you guys posted if there is any more blue posts regarding this info. Im working to organize old blue comments on Battlenet into a coherent fashion to add to the thread and i will get the recent blue info added to teh OP soon aswell ![]() On a related note has anyone heard from karune in months? Why is Bashiok now the defacto SC2 community manager?

Bashiok used to be a CM on a WoW forum, before WotWK. Nethera or however you spell it too, but they do make "guest appearances" on other forums. Another theory I have is that some workers(designers, coders, etc.) at Blizzard are given these "shifts" to moderate these forums. Think along the lines of "night shifts" you have to do in hospitals or additional after work hours you have to stay in the company. They probably have some ridiculous quota to fill like "work as a moderator on X forum for Z time" in a year.

Nor should it surprise anyone, except for the spammers on the said forum. People got away with a lot of crap on the wow forums, even during it's haydays during major release, there's a lot going on even for a fully powered and live game. Also, moderating a beta forum is probably not on their top 10 list, let alone possibly not being on the list at all. Blizz knows people are aggrivated, quite frankly I am surprised they didn't come back and say, 'Testing the beta is not for testing our IRC server for chat functionality,' and be done with it. Everyone just needs to calm down on the haterade, I think all of our points have been made quite clearly (husky's video was known to a blizzard poster quite expediently IIRC), I would be surprised to see a post made in this thread that is not reitterating previous points. The next wave of 'wtf omg,' can surely wait for round 2. I am anticipating a decent post from Blizzard, and you can be sure that it will be a very loud post as well.

If that isnt the proverbial "We dont even care about you enough to give you a honest answer." than I dont know what is..... No Archer, it means "This was purely a corporate decision, and not a design choice/error, and will never change." It isn't something you can "debate". Its not like "you should include lan for xyz". Its "Yeah we know and we care about (temporarily) preventing piracy more then giving you this feature". As opposed to the other decisions like Chat which I'm sure were just design oversights. On a related note has anyone heard from karune in months? Why is Bashiok now the defacto SC2 community manager? Probably got reassigned because nobody liked him posting lol, or maybe promotion (I would hope for performance on areas other then actual community interaction lol). Hes still working at Blizzard though, was chatting with Ghetto-Overlord and he told me he met him on B-net in a random team 2v2 before the first reset where all the blizz employees had to play under different names.

While im organizing all the blue responces ill just post the link so you guys can check it out http://forums.battle.net/thread.html?topicId=25399921649&postId=253972569059&sid=3000#75 Bashiok why was the main reason for no chat due to spam? Wouldn't the whole "One account one cd key" eliminate the possibility of people spamming? simply permaban and force them to buy a new one if they want to spam. Who is banning them, and what is generating their pay to patrol/moderate millions of users? -Bashiok

I mean how much would it cost to hire a few moderators to go through spam reported by other users? Not a lot comparing to the sales they will make from this game.
