Hi guys,
I've read many threads asking how to change your gateway, so I'll share a program I've made for my personal use. All it does is automating what's described in this post :
On April 02 2010 16:29 ldrs wrote: Switching the "Base.SC2Data" file in "Starcraft II Beta\Mods\Core.SC2Mod" folder of your SC2 installation with the same file from another SC2 client will allow you to play on multiple servers without multiple installations.
I got a friend to send me his US "Base.SC2DATA" file and I replaced the file on my EU SC2 install and managed to login with a US account and play on US B.Net. I have two Base.SC2DATA files (one for EU and the other for US) and I just switch the file names around depending on which server I want to connect to.
[edit for clarification: YOU NEED ACCOUNTS ON THE RESPECTIVE SERVERS TO CONNECT TO THEM (You can NOT connect to the EU server with a US account and vice-versa.) This is only useful to people who have access to multiple accounts on different servers or people who have downloaded the wrong client and do not want to redownload the client again.]
Not too sure if this breaks anything or not but it works completely fine for me; I even managed to get patch 7 when connecting to the US server with a EU SC2 install without any issues. Hope this helped.
Gateway Switcher (The file is fairly big because i've included the 3 Base.SC2Data files found in this thread : http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=118158)
Screen shot (source code VS2008 C#)
Only tested on WinXP x86 SP3

Why the hell did nobody reply to this. This tool is great!

Thanks for making this, I personally don't use anything except US gateway but I'm sure people who do change accounts would love this.

When I extracted the .rar file it said the file was corrupt and didn't seem to come with the US base file. I placed my own US base file in the folder named as USBase or whatever as the program asked for but when I press launch game it doesn't work.

I get the corrupt file error as well but the game still launches fine with the US gateway file and I can still switch Gateways no problem.

We should identify the specific file in this MPQ that stores the gateway information and automate the editing of that. Would result in a much smaller and more efficient tool. I'll look into it...
EDIT: It's just ProductLocale.txt ... either enGB or enUS. The post after this mentions a batch file I'm not aware of, it might simply switch that string, as described below:
You can get for example Ladik's MPQ Editor, extract ProductLocale.txt from Base.SC2Data in Core, change enUS / enGB / whateverkoreaisbecauseididnt'check to whatever you desire, then replace it into the mpq.
|
I've been using the .batch file that is in the other thread on this topic, and it has been working great for me, super easy etc. this looks cool too though, these are great tools to have around at our disposal

Great job, I think its great that players are implementing features that blizzard can't handle.
I'd be interested in seeing if any players will be able to implement in-game chat rooms before blizzard o_o
Isn't the bnet2 interface flash or something like that? I bet someone could modify it to automatically connect to an irc channel or something.
|
omg i was looking for this but couldn't find it! thank you sir!

Yeah because everyone can use this and automatically have an account on all 3 servers. It is cool that third party programs are automatically what people think Blizzard has invisioned, give Blizzard some time to do what they are planning on doing(Most of their plans for a game are thought up a long time before a beta, getting down the list of what needs to be done on a priortity list takes time,(Blizzard has never dissapointed me in any of their games so far so I have faith.)).
This is a neat tool, it will help those with multiple beta accounts, keep up the good work.
|
wait does this program really work that simple as in that picture? u just open it then select gateway?
wow i need to fix an account so i can play some us tours before beta ends :p
|
|
The US file is corrupt and not working for me, only the KR server works and EU work.
|
lol I read the title and immediately thought someone created a little hack/macro to use the warpgate/gateway switch automatically for faster unit production as toss. /facepalm
good job nonetheless
|
|
we are just SO resourceful as a community!
|
I was really hoping that with sc2 the community wouldnt have to make third party programs to makeup for Blizzard's mistakes.

Or Blizzard doesn't care when the community DOES do it so they dont have to?
|
wow I had missed this, great job!
|
Yeah, I made a batch file that did this as well (though not as automated as this, probably) a while ago, but I guess it got ignored. Anyways, this is far superior, so good job .

Hey look! It's a Beta!

Great tool, and thanks to whoever bumped it because I browse these forums very often but have never seen this thread before. Kinda funny though, it took just a couple of weeks before anyone replied to it and when someone did it suddenly got 2 pages of replies. :D
|
Since I'm on a wireless connection I lag bad enough on the US servers (don't ask why I don't get something faster, short story is I have the fastest net available in my area), however this looks like its a really useful tool for those who wish to try different servers.
Edit: Topic title is a little mis-leading for some perhaps that's why it took so long for a reply?
|
|
Flippin awesome!
Edit: In the spirit of not jacking up my beta install for the 10000th time, do you just extract this to a random folder and run or what?
|
Can someone host this on a different server?
Everything is censored (can't access mediafire) here in china =[
|
How do I tell which region key I have?
complete fail D: its probably right on the main screen and I'm going to make myself look like a fool

What sites can you access? Megaupload?

Awesome tool, really useful today since the US beta is up whereas EU and Asia servers are still in maintenance.

Does it still works, I mean even with patch 16??

|
i assume i have to have an account with US beta? i am not sure how exactly does that work... but if i can get extra beta key i can somehow play on US? (i am from EU and have EU account)
can anyone explain in more detail how its done? thx
|
it somehow works for me
i can connect to the US server, but when i am connecting, it give some error.. (no associated sc2 copy)
|
yeah I suppose this would be great, if I had spare beta keys -_-
|
Still no EU, and I have no US account >.>
|

I have verified through checksum that the only file that differs is ProductLocale.txt. As soon as I get back home from work, I will throw together a tool that modifies this file as I don't have any dev tools here at work. =(

I love this tool, means I can play on US server easily and when EU comes back up I'll don't have to reinstall :D thanks!

you still need a second beta key to play on a different realm right ? but what to do with it ? reg a second battle.net account and choose US as state ?

Yes, it's no problem at all. The problem is to get the key... :/
|
Tbh, i dont really see the point in entering another regions servers.. Aint the one you are registered for enough?
|
yeah but EU und asia are down and US is up since 2 days :/

yes you still need a second beta key. but all you have to do is(if you have a US beta key) reg it with your current battle.net account.. worked for me gl

cool program, but a friend of mine has got a problem- the Gateway Switcher doesnt work @ his pc. I suspected, that downloading the file by him or unpacking caused this. So I've sent him my unpacked file and still it wouldn't work. He's kinda desperate now, so please help asap ; p he's got win XP. What could be wrong ?
|
I read this thinking really? a tool to change gateways? Is hitting G to morph warpgates that hard?
/facepalm myself
|
I have created a tool which edits the .SC2Data file in place instead. It does the exact same thing as the OP's tool but it is ~1mb instead of ~70mb.
Feel to try it out and provide feedback. I don't have a US account so I'm not 100% sure it works yet. If in doubt, backup your Base.SC2Data file.
Gateway Changer.
Big credits to the OP and the ones who came up with this idea.

Very, very huge bump. After all the patches, is it still possible to use this to change my US installed SC2 to play the korean server, without redownloading the client?
|
lol, when i read the title, i thought it was talking about some sort of mod that would change your Gateways into Warpgates automatically as soon as they warped in. lol, this is a cool thing though

Dude can you really not use the search bar before necroing a thread from the beta? Seriously its the first result if you search relocalization.

Hah, I thought the exact same.

Not THAT big of a bump. At least compared to that one set of threads from '04 that got bumped a few weeks ago (I think).
|
Can anyone verify that this is safe? No offense to the op, but he has 1 post.
