Gist of the matter is that Garimto will be joining MYM as the first addition to their future SC2 team, as it currently only has a CS and DOTA team.
He has signed a contract lasting from April 2010 to July 2011, lasting 15 months.
GARIMTO says that since there arent any Korean SC2 teams yet, he decided to join MYM, from Denmark, to participate in SC2 competitions.
Terms of the contract are that in the 15 month period, he will be representing MYM in all SC2 games and MYM will pay for all of his expenses related to SC2 tournaments/etc.
Also says that MYM extended the offer to many ex-pros, and that GARIMTO is the first one to successfully sign a contract.
http://www.fomos.kr/board/board.php?mode=read&keyno=106193&db=issue
(As I don't actually read Korean, I got it off here: http://www.wfbrood.com/xingji/hanguoxingji/xingji_47819.html)
Edit- Garimto wrote about his feelings on joining the team on his blog here. -WaxAngel
"I signed with one of Europe's biggest pro-game teams, MYM, as a Starcraft II progamer. They say they've found a huge sponsorship, but I don't know what it is yet, and I guess I wouldn't know it even if I heard. I can't reveal the details of the contract, but I'll just say it puts no pressure on me whatsoever. "I might have to pick my race soon, so I'm thinking maybe I'll just go ahead with random, but if I was forced to pick it would have to be Protoss, which isn't a very good choice at all. When I get my uniform, maybe you'll be able to see me wear it at some tournaments. "The contract started on April 1st, so it's kind of late to announce it, but MyM will have it up on their homepage today. I just wanted to tell my readers here first . No one knows yet, so you'll probably hear it here first. "It was by chance I came across this opportunity and signed this contract, so I'm still the only SC II progamer in Korea so far. When more good players are discovered, I'll probably play alongside them. "In Korea, Daegi hyung (Aozora, former pro) is preparing his NEX team, so most Korean SCII players will probably go there. "Well, I've become attached to an European team, but I don't think it will affect my life much. The best part of this contract is that they pay for all expenses involved in participating in international tournaments. In any case, I'll try hard not to disappoint them. "Since it's a 15 month contract, I'm stuck with them for better or for worse till summer of next year. As long as this is happening, I hope I can learn more about European culture by travelling there for tournaments (for FREE!!!). "Any complaints of 'isn't that washed up geezer tired of making comebacks now?' I'll accept with thanks as people giving me attention. Still, please don't rag on me too hard, and if you could keep the thought of "Maybe...?" in the corner of your heart, then it would really make me try my best ^___^ Have a nice day everyone!

Wow, this is awesome! Really hyped now.
Also considering the recent quarrels between Kespa/Blizzard. I feel like this is a step in the right direction for the future of Sc2 inside Korea.
|
Good for MYM and Garimto.
Could this be the evolution of the North American & European SC2 gaming scene into something like a conglomeration MLB ?
Taking all the best players from around the world into two centralized locations.
|
i wanna hear him speak english again
|
haha that was so unexpected.. very nice :D
There's only that obstacle of seperated region servers that is holding it all back

That's really cool! It sounds like there's some hope out there maybe for some integration I think on some parts. Seeing him play again but in the SC2 scene. Oh that would be something to see! Kind of excited for this summer now...
|
Interested in knowing the details of this, I don't think Garimto would join the team just for practice purposes seeing as he plays on the asia server anyways and can probably get the top korean players to practice at any time.
So did mYm offer him a huge contract or what? Just paying for expenses sounds awfully small. I guess its cool to see mYm interested in SC2 whatever the case might be.
|
I was expecting MYM to pick up a sc2 team, but mainly from their old wc3 roster. Did not expect GARIMTO to get picked up by MYM, hope he does well againt the up and comming young guns!
Gl in the future MYM
|
Shit, Garimto's zealots in sc2 must be unstoppable against zerglings.
|
|
|
Cool. Kespa must not be too happy about such moves (or am I thinking wrong?)
|
big step for global sc2 esports (or ESPORTS )

But they still cannot hold ;]
On the serious note, I wasn't expecting MYM to be recruiting players from Korea, thought they will form their SC2 team with ex-wc3 MYM players like DeMuslim.
|
wow really bold move by MYM, taking 1 step ahead of all competition :O next move check? :D
DeMusliM is in their SC2 team also
|
SC2 pro gaming scene is going to explode. I'm so exited!! Please SK/4k etc...get some players so we can have some more fun times?

|
|
thats cool to hear that MYM is getting a SC2 team up tbh im suprised they asked Garimto
|
MYM is from Germany now, not Denmark.
Interesting move by MYM, just hope it doesn't end up like their old org.

im still not happy with them disbanding sc guys so early

Y hello thar my new favorite team.
|
I think you guys will like the other signings more
Also, MYM is now a German organisation, not Danish.

Closed by request. Re-opening after official release from Mym later tonight.

wow friggin fascinating move.
MYM is mostly a foreigner team though.. interesting that they'd sign a korean.. doubt he will make cw's, tourneys etc that are outside korea.
|
this is sort of great answer from garimto to KeSPA lol
|
|
|
wooow! this is huge news ! i loved garimto play in the early days ^_^
|
I'm sure once retail version hits, and as long as Korean pros keep showing the interest in SC2 that many have had it won't be long after that SC2 teams start popping up, or current teams start SC2 divisions. Nice to see MYM back on the scene, they used to be pretty damn good in TFT.

They were known as the merc team in WC3. Had almost exclusively Koreans in their line-up for most of the time.

sounds great! very interesting to see him play

Did MYM ever pay the like 15k to soccer(wc3 player) after they declared "bankruptcy"?

there were hardly any tournaments in korea but actually MYM paid their players to participate in high prizemoney tournaments from europe/usa

Holy shitting balls! Thats simply amazing! Someone better warn him about the T.L.ove hes gonna get if he participates in public tournaments :D!

They had Moon, Susiria, LuCifer, Gostop and prolly some more koreans i forgot. They were the first european team to add koreans in WC3 i believe? And yes, they were active in foreign tournies, WC3 was alot more mixed then SC when it comes to foreigner/koreans.

Warcraft 3 never developed in Korea as well as Starcraft did so the "Foreign scene" what you guys consider non-Korean was the Warcraft scene.
Also the moment MYM switched from a European to a Korean team, the Koreans became their Warcraft 3 team. They were not Mercs. MYM.WC3 will always be remembered as a Korean team the community loved and interacted with.

SK-gaming had a Korean team back in 2004.

second manly-est protoss after reach!
still though, i don really quite get how his contracts with mym works, so will he be flying around the world competing in international tourneys, how active will he be in regards of tournaments participations? i thought mym went out of business a couple years ago? kinda weird though in his recent interviews he keeps saying he can't keep on going pro anymore as it is too demanding...

I wonder who else is on that list.
|
GARIMTO!
good to see him back! Maybe now that the game is less macro oriented (As of now anyways) we can see some old legends rape face ;D
|
Pretty awesom to see a old progamer still wanting to be in the scene. GJ Garmito!

I really hope he does extremely well, it would help out esports to have such a well known name up on top (well known in korea I mean) If SK players see him having great success with SC2 in the international scene, I think we'll be able to grow the community past where the BW community essentially stopped (focus in SK, spattering outside)

Razer and Puma as sponsors? o_o
|
sweet, gl to all wouldn't it be better to stuck with players from one server (us, eu, asia) though? i feel like borrowing accounts for clanwars and tournamentts will suck :l
|
I will only follow Garimto if the MYM uniform includes a triple-hoodie.
|
A small step for MYM a giant leap for sc2.
- The high prize sums in non-profit organised tournaments and the amount of them is already extraordinary(+ it's still just the beta).
- The teams that are organising and those who started even before the beta release.
- The 22500 usd in the last sc:bw tournament
... The difference here is that it's Garimto and serious money in the deal. This is what it's going to take to be a major team in sc2, the other teams will have to follow. With plenty of teams backed up financially like this (hopefully SK making theirs soon) we'll see lan tournaments popping up, international teams meeting up in broadcasted clashes( ESL probably, of course WCG and more coming up hopefully)
With that said... I'm hopeful about this summer and the release of the game. It'll be huge, Blizzard will back it up (or else...)
|
demuslim + epic oldschoolness :D
i wonder if they will be able to dominate the tons of young wannabes that sure will pop up with sc2 release. well, first of all i wonder if sc2 will even be good enough of an esports game so that there will be any domination at all.
|
I suspect the aspect of traveling for free doesn't play a minor role (seeing as garimto seemed to be pretty good friends with the foreigners who stayed in korea)
anyway - good to see old legends owning it up again!
|
Great news, although I wish he were Liquid'Garimto
|
Wow great vid!!! Looking forward for some more teams making their way into the SC2 scene!
Is it bad if I dont know who Raven is?

So what will happen to Artosis the journalist now that he goes Artosis the pro?
|
Most exciting news lately ! Good job garimto !
Does anyone know what Grr... is up to this days ? He sayd he might be back for SC2 and so far I havent heard anything !
|
I wonder why they chose Artosis. Raven used to play for MYM.SC. Garimto joining the team isn't a big surprise. The old MYM valued top Korean talent and Garimto fills that void.
This lineup has solid diversity.
|
Since when did artosis join mym..?

I have a new favorite team. This is so awesome. Is this all just a dream? Artosis and Garimto are on the same pro team? What the hell how awesome is that?!?

I get the feeling this sort of thing is going to motivate Kespa to be a bit more willing to negotiate with Blizzard. In Kespa's absence, other teams are picking up Korean players. If they don't hurry, they're gonna miss it!

mymym.com new sc2 roster: demuslim garimto artosis raven

isn't artosis under another company's contract? IEG, or whatever company owns sc4all.com ?
|
I keep the thought of maybe for every old school gamer in the corner of my heart.
|
I can't believe I'm just now seeing this.
So one of the top 5 SC2 players at the moment, a famous former BW pro gamer with huge name recognition, joins a clan that is not going to pay him a dime to play for them at tournaments. A clan that paid its top war3 players OVER 6 FIGURES. He's not going to have practice facilities or high level practice partners.. and he's going to be stuck there for 15 MONTHS. What if SC2 blows up in Korea and pro gaming teams form rosters and hes stuck in MYM slumming it up making nothing, and has no means to practice on par with other the koreans.
I hope he has a real job and this is just a fun little stunt where he's not really practicing at all, but will show up to tournaments for fun for free, otherwise this was a massive mistake.

Don't forget that SC2 got 18+ rating in Korea and Blizz is trying to lower it, I don't remember where I've read it but it probably will delay the launch of SC2 in Korea for about a year. It may end with his contract ending before SC2 goes big or launches at all. What practice facilities do you have in mind? Isn't PC and access to the other servers not enough? I think it's Raven and Demuslim that should be worried about lag when trying to play on Asia.

Raven runs his own Polish terran.pl site about BW and SC2. He commentates Polish WCG games and was organizing charity to send 2 more Polish BW players to grand WCG finals in China.

Has a brief article; I havnt caught many Artosis games to be honest, but demuslim played pretty well in the gosucup, and garimto is garimto. Excited to see SC2 getting so much attention pre release.
Why are we still referring to the non Korean scene as foreign? This is not broodwar and I think US and Euro have become the locals to this new platform.

Wow this could be a huge step for progaming cooperation between Korea and the foreign world.
|
Wow, impressive DOTA team is creating SC2 teams...then again who's honestly surprised these people are the one's jumping the gun?
still...very impressive i dont think Blizz has much to fret about for SC2 e-sports in terms of team-making.
BTW, forgive me if im blind - but where does it say he's not making any money? You dont exactly tell the world how much money you make =)
and yes, the other guy who posted made a good point: SC2's release date in Korea is in flux right now because of the rating, if they dont lower it Blizz will be delaying it by about 1 year potentially. They are appealing it...but well you know how Korean gov works -.-
