Thank you all for entering. This thread was massive. In the end it came down two people, who were both 2 numbers off from the winning number. ElaineCake has a whopping 8 more posts than the other forum user, therefore she\he won.
I wish the rest of you all luck in getting into this game and I thank everyone for playing.

I have 1 extra beta key because I was impatient in waiting for my online pre-order key to arrive. None of my friends seem to be interested in the SC2 beta. Even if they were they could simply preorder and get one.
Therefore in an effort to give to the TL.net community I have devised this simple random number giveaway of my extra key. The random number concept was chosen by forum readers.
Rules:- The contest will be held in this thread to avoid cluttering the forum.
- The minimum post requirement is 25, or a join date prior to: 4.20.2010. Initially I wasn't going to have one. But I am afraid people will make a new profile with a non-NA region, or spam. I have no way to verify that other than a post count\join date.
- North American's are not allowed to enter. If you do by accident your entry will be ignored. I'm from NA and we can all get a beta key by simply pre-ordering. Let's allow our friends in other parts of the world a shot at some SC2 fun please.
- The person with the guess closest to the winning number will receive the key.
- In the event of duplicate guesses or two numbers falling very close to the winning number: the person with a higher post count gains veteran status and will be declared the winner. This is my effort to remain fair to all who enter, while giving some benefit to TL.net users who have been around for a while.
- You may only post 1 number\guess total. Multiple posts by individuals are not allowed.
- SUPER IMPORTANT: If you win, I will PM you the key. Because I am not 100% certain that the keys are not locked by region\usable in all areas - I want you to PM me back and let me know that it worked.
- I (roark) will post the start of the contest. I will make the most recent post saying:
"CONTEST BEGINS HERE"
- At this point please leave all discussion out of this forum, only post contest entries (ie: your number guess) after this post.
- You must post a number 1-1000 in your post.
- The contest will be open for 18 hours - 6pm EST to 12pm EST - (24:00 - 18:00 CET) to give those in Europe\Asia enough time to enter during their normal day. (It is already very late there.)
- I will use Random.org to generate a number. I will post a screen shot as proof and announce a winner.

In general I find contest more interesting so I voted for that. Of course, losing them is just as infuriating as losing a random draw but at least it gives some entertainment for the rest.

Do another iccup crazy tourney (e.g. FFA or 2v2v2 or 2v1). It's overall a pretty hilarious event. Plus it generates more publicity for iccup.

1. Start a new thread. Leave that thread open for a period of time, say 3 hours. Then generate a number between 1 and the last post. The random number will correlate to a post # "x". Whoever was the "x" poster will winn.
2. Allow everyone to choose a number, between a certain number range. Ex: 1-1000. Generate the number. Winner is the poster closest to the # generated.

Well, whatever you do, make up rules and ask a Moderator to ban those who doesn't follow the rules (for example, reposting despite the rules saying only being allowed to post once). Or something like that.

Not really, mostly the first giveaway was about 19:00 CEST and the last about 02:00 CEST, it was possible to participate at least in two of them in a normal time...

If you are going to do 1st people will post multiple posts and if 100 makes double posts it will be non trackable or a bunch of work-for-nothing. But if you choose second (or even first!) don't do it in like 03:00 CET when all fellow Europeans like myself are sleeping (not including hard core dudes). So you my try to randomize it by selecting an accidental post in this thread or even simplier just find someone here you'd like to give a key by any criterion you want  . No one can call any of this "unfair" because giving your additional key is fair enough!

Yeah. Checking from work. Clearly random is what people want. And option 1 for the random is pretty much out.

For the first, I have to hope people aren't complete and total jack asses. Anyone in NA can get a beta key simply by pre-ordering. Everyone else is eligible.

God, maybe its not a big deal, obviously this is your contest (Thank you for your generosity btw), but honestly it should be a bannable offense to just completely not read the OP and completely ignore everything that was stated, especially if it was a pretty significant rule or plea.
I mean, the guy clearly states that one of the caveats is that he doesn't want North Americans signing up for the contest, due to the recent preordering stuff, cool, thats understandable. Yet you still see so many users from United States or Canada posting in the thread, some who have hundreds of posts, so its not like there an idiot 1-post spammer who nobody takes seriously anyway. I mean, the rules are pretty clear.

Im thinking about contests that make you spend an hour or more for 0.001 chance like those at beta start.
Random 0.001 is still better than those 500 key tl competitions that make you waste time for nothing..
