If it hasn't been mentioned yet, decals are these cool ass looking icons that are displayed around your buildings (at least that's how I seen it for zerg).

If I see someone complain about something illogically, I love to follow suit! "Achievements? Crap, needs an option to disable." I fail to see how it's hurting/bothering you at all....Just don't pay attention to it if they bother you so much.

I think decals will help identify players in 2v2+. Especially if two players are the same race. It is also just an aesthetic option. And I was never big on achievements when they came out. But it does add a lot to the game, and its nice to get benchmarks little "rewards" as you play. Love 'em or hate 'em the general population seems to enjoy them a lot.

I'm all for anything that expands the playerbase without hurting gameplay.

also why the hell are the decals not race specific? Kind of stupid to have Zerg with the protoss symbols

Assuming these decals aren't some garish pieces of crap I could see them working as instant identifiers for certain players. Imagine if Boxer's marines or July's mutas had a specific look where the instant you see a game on TV you could identify them. Those vultures on TV aren't just any vultures, they're Nada's vultures. Expanding that out, maybe pro teams could have their own decals (kinda like jerseys for sports teams), where players from the same team will have the same decals so you can instantly tell who is playing whom. That would require custom decals, which Blizzard would never do. Maybe if we get a SC2 proleague, Blizzard will make them for teams.

They definitely allow for brand/player recognizability though, and can also allow for some degree of advertising, which would of course be beneficial towards esports

I'm very positive that if SC2 becomes as big (or bigger) an esport someone will figure out how to make custom decals (Kespa anyone?) or Blizzard will just give in so long as it's a very established and successful progaming team. I mean, the Korean progaming teams already have their little logos and such so implementing them as decals wouldn't be too difficult.

Even WoW doesn't have a window pop up blocking part of your screen when guildmates get achievements etc., and the gameplay isn't as involved as it is here. I'd be furious if I accidentally clicked on achievement spam during an endgame battle. does clicking a friend's achievement notification in-game actually bring up some window? Maybe it would be better to just write out the achievement and who got it in the chat zone, as though a player were saying it.
