A friend made this program that renames your replays automatically as you move them into the replay folder. Even replays that are created right after you have played a game. They get renamed to "playername(race) vs playername(race) on mapname". There's also a program that you can manually rename single/batches of replays if you don't want all your replays renamed automatically.

There is a second SC2 Beta folder in your Documents directory so it would be easy for people to view. So go to Documents, then SC2 Beta, then the only folder you see is replays.
Chance favors the prepared mind.

As I don't have a mac to test this on myself, what you can do is download the Mono Framework and follow the instructions at this page.

The Mono runtime analyzer tool seems to think it should work fine, but I can not promise anything.

Thanks to McCrank for posting this and for all his help testing the programs as I have not been blessed with a beta key myself. I will watch for posts here and on my web page if any other questions/problems appear.

Changelog:
* Both programs have been updated with further compatibility fixes.
* config.ini can now be used to change between two output formats. (SC2RAR needs to be run once to set the path, then exited to edit the format)

config.ini
Normal
#Normal: Player(R) vs Player(R) on Map[id].SC2Replay
#Matchup: RvR Player vs Player on Map[id].SC2Replay

Simply change the line that says "Normal" to "Matchup", or any other option possibly added in the future, to choose your format.
New formats can be requested.

Known Issues:
* Non-English language replays cause problems and will not show the map name.
* Races are also an issue, but a workaround has been found. I need more Non-English replays from all races. These need to be marked clearly with which player is what race.
* Having two of the same replay in the same folder will leave one of them in its non-modified name. (Not really going to fix this).

NOTE: The files are getting updated one or more times per day, if you are having problems please download it again and retry before posting. It might already be fixed

Download links:
SC2RAR
Batch-Renamer

Mirror pack with both (Not being updated frequently)

If anyone has any non-English replays they can give me, I would really appreciate the help!

sick. gosu. awesome. baller. u rule
is there a way to make users able to set how they want the replays saved?
for instance, if i would like the map to be listed first and then the names, races, etc
EDIT: i think i figured it out... by editing the config.ini? can i add the date in their somehow?
one problem is that sometimes it saves the replay with my name first and sometimes not.
so i cant organize the files by ME v xxxx.

what the hell is this ID random string of characters after the map name? How do I get rid of it?
And also, I tried to grab all my recent reps and drop them into the renamed exe and it doesn't work

seems that 18 is the max.

also when i convert a rep, everytime it says "sorry error blah bla" but it actually worked.
a small percentage of reps won't rename.
..and then I would, ya know, check em'. (Aka SpoR)

Output:
You will receive a replay in this format: “Player1(P) vs Player2(Z) on Kulas Ravine[FFFFFFFF].SC2Replay”. The code at the end is there to give a unique name to each replay. (Its a CRC32 based on some replay information)

btw.great job with this, I hated this current format.

You can just choose between the already existing formats in the .ini. While a dynamic system is probably possible, I have not yet gotten around to coding it. If you want me to add a format, just write it down like it says in the .ini and post it to me here or on the site.

example:
#Mapfirst: Map.RvR.Player vs Player[id].SC2Replay

Adding a date is a slight problem for renaming existing replays, but for the auto-renamer it would be easy since the regular replay name consists of the date and time. There is a file-specific last modified date that can be used for existing replays, but it breaks if the replay gets renamed from inside SC2.

The player names are organized by player information in the replay file. So if you were player two in that game, your name will be second in the name. A possible feature for the auto-renamer is to be able to set your nickname so it can move that up front.

what the hell is this ID random string of characters after the map name? How do I get rid of it?

That is an "unique" identifier for the replay. Removing it will create problems with replays that have the same players, in the same matchup, on the same map, as they will get the exact same name. I can make a format that does not contain the ID, but then you will have to manage the problem yourself.

The 18 replay limit and errors must be because of local variables on your system. It works fine here with 30+ replays. But I will see what I can do.

The program is awesome, thanks warcode!

I guess it doesn't work on older replays though. I ran a few older ones through the program and it spat out stuff like 'on 255,0,66,255[5db0be2e].SC2Replay'.

replays that are already in the folder doesn't get renamed. only replays that you move into the folder or gets created in the folder.

@Chuiu: Could you email me one or more replays that ended up like that? If you are using a non-english client it would be awesome if you can include which player is what race. (public@warcode.net)

@MorroW: If you want to rename existing replays, please use the Batch-Renamer. The Auto-renamer currently only renames replays that are added to the folder while the program is running.

Changelog:
* Added some error handling that might help explain why the program crashed.
* Added support for a third output format which has the map first:
#Map: Map.RvR.Player vs Player[id].SC2Replay

* Korean replays now supported! (Map names will not work)

Known Issues:
* Non-English language replays still cause problems.
* I need more Non-English replays from all races. These need to be marked clearly with which player is what race.
* Having two of the same replay in the same folder will leave one of them in its non-modified name. (Not really going to fix this, so watch replay packs before renaming to avoid spoilers).

If you want to have a output format added, please post it in this thread like so:
#Formatname: Map.RvR.Player vs Player[id].SC2Replay

I have been thinking of making the formats use dots instead of spaces.
So instead of

warcode(P) vs omgteo(Z) on Steppes of War[id].SC2Replay
PvZ warcode vs omgteo on Steppes of War[id].SC2Replay

it would be

warcode(P).vs.omgteo(Z).on.Steppes.of.War[id].SC2Replay
PvZ.warcode.vs.omgteo.on.Steppes.of.War[id].SC2Replay

Easier to read?

And if you'd like some input and the format. imo:

PvZ warcode vs omgteo Steppes of War[id].SC2Replay

Is what I'd like to use. I think spaces are preferable to periods. And if it could somehow recognize what the main username is (the one that will be in nearly every replay) and always have the opponent in the first slot (where warcode is) that would be cool as well.

But as is, it works well already, thanks.

In sc1 you can just manually save it and name it whatever you want... Or just use chaoslauncher which does it for you.

Added support for using dots instead of spaces in the replay name.

#Normal.: Player(R).vs.Player(R).on.Map[id].SC2Replay

This works for all formats, just add a "." at the end of the name. (Normal. | Map. | Matchup.)

Right now its a mess of workarounds and horribly named variables. If you truly want it I can rar it up and send it to you, but I wont be releasing it publicly any time soon. (Its in C#/.NET3.5)

Bah. Make it work like printf in C, or those title display thing in WinAMP. You give it a pattern, and it fills it in. Like the string:

"%p1 of race %r1 vs %p2 of race %r2 on %m[%u]"

%m is the map name, %p# is the #th player name, %r# is the #th race, and %u is the unique identifier, which must be present. %d should be the date&time, which should also be able to be used in place of %u for those who would rather do so.

Any characters other than the % tags are taken verbatim. This allows users to customize the tool as they see fit.

you would not need the special id for the match if you would put a possibility to have the timestamp in front.

i would liek to have a format like blizzards time in front (actually the date would be enough. just distinguish by checking if there is a replay already with that name and then put a 2 behind)

TIME a vs b RvR
and/or
TIME a(R) vs b(R)

You most likely don't have the .NET Framework installed. If you have WinXP 32bit you can try this link.

@iDfyU

The time/date format is possible for the auto-renamer. I'll add it to the todo list. But as I don't have any reliable way of getting time/date information from pre-renamed replays yet, it will have to wait for the batch-renamer.

My starcraft 2 disconnects me after every game (it's not a huge deal because the games get counted) but it is weird and makes me have to re-login after every game.

I never had this problem in the past, though it is possible one of the new patches just isn't jiving or something and that the auto-renamer is uninvolved.

Anyone else having this problem? I mean, even if it is causing it. It's still probably less time to re-login than rename my replays.

No idea what would be causing this. I have no way of testing it myself since I am not in the beta. I might add an option to delay the renaming with x seconds, to see if that helps.

The only problem is replays with multiple players. I can always add a format where you can choose in which order it lists the match-up, map, players, date/time and ID. Basic time/date support is already done in my current development version.

I will start working on this again as soon as I get my dev pc back on track. One of my main HDs died and I wont be able to fix it until Sunday.

warcode, just use a filesystem watcher...
when a new file is created in the recents folder, parse the player info and store the files that way, it shouldnt interact with connection or the game in any way

if theres a demand for competing versions of this, i can make a quick example for people to build on, shouldnt take but 30 minutes or so

That is exactly what I am doing. And why I was surprised that it would be interfering with the connection in any way. It even waits for SC2 to finish writing the replay and release the file before attempting to rename it.

Anyone else having this problem? I mean, even if it is causing it. It's still probably less time to re-login than rename my replays.

I don't use the auto renamer, I just mass rename at the end of a session. No problems with that ofc.

yea turning it off fixed the problem, I'll just use the renamer at the end of sessions.

weird

maybe the game interacts with the file more than once after a replay? might be parsing it itself, or doing checksums, etc

Yes. And that is why I'll add a timer variable to check if waiting a couple of more seconds will fix it.

Firstly, thank you - great handy little program which I'll be using a lot.

Feature requests:
Be able to set the order of information (i.e. [Races][Names][Date] or [Date][Races][Names])
Be able to set your username and always have that name first / second (i.e. Username is Peleus, so the replays are always, Peleus vs warcode, Peleus vs ...., Peleus vs ..... not a mix of names first and second)
Be able to have a win or loss indicated if it's your username. (Very hand if you're having problems with playing against say Terran to go back through and find all the Terran games you have lost or won specifically rather than trying to view them all).

I'm not sure what is and isn't possible within the confines of SC2's information, just these things would be great.

Thank you again for your effort though. Awesome job.

I also have hte problem where I get disconnected from battle.net after every game and the problem went away when I turned off the SC2 Replay Auto-Renamer.

I have over 20 free losses on my account due to me queuing and then it dropping me from battle.net and it giving me a free loss T_T

Are all players that experience the disconnects using windows XP?

A new version of the Batch-renamer will be uploaded today. Just need to run final tests and cleanup. I will be rewriting the SC2RAR with all the updates from the Batch-renamer and release a new version of that soon too.

I'm on XP and I don't experience a disconnect after every game, but while the auto-renamer is running I do disconnect every now and then.

Yeah, I was using the program and having the exact same issue described. Game plays fine (no lag/disconnects), once game finishes get to score screen, can stay on score screen for as long as I want, but about 10-15 seconds after leaving the score screen I'd get a disconnect 100% of the time. Bug was easily reproducible and very consistent.

If it helps I'm running Win7 x64. I'll also throw in that turning off the auto-renamer immediately fixed the problem (haven't seen it since), and that even though I was being disconnected after every game it was still renaming the replays correctly.

Also, the batch renamer is working fine for me, and thanks for the tool!

I have received reports that SC2RAR has made the game crash for some people. I will look into the problem before the next update. If you are having disconnects/crashes and are running SC2RAR, please stop using it and see if the problem disappears.

Changelog:
* Renaming of replays from all locales now works.
* FEATURE: Added a Dynamic output format.
* FEATURE: Added support for moving you to the Front/Back of the player listing.
* Check config.ini for more information.

Known Issues:
* Non-English language replays will some times produce an X instead of P/Z/T in the matchup listing. This can be fixed by emailing me the replay along with an explanation of which race it should be. (And if you want to help me keep track, what language it is in).
* Renaming of replays that have non-English characters in them might fail. This is a problem with underlying libraries and there is most likely nothing I can do about it.

Update announcements (along with other things) will now be posted on twitter @warcodeNet
(But also here on teamliquid.net )

SC2RAR Update3 Beta3

Can anyone who had issues with SC2RAR crashes/disconnects try this?
1. Unpack in new directory
2. Run program and choose folder
3. Right click on icon in tray and select "Set Player Name", enter your battle.net name or simply "test" and click Apply.
4. Close the program and open config.ini
5. Change the 0 to a value between 15 and 60
6. Start program and use normally

This will delay the renaming of the replays by 15 to 60 (or more) seconds, so wait at least a minute after exiting the score screen to see if the problem is resolved.

Edit: Updated the link to Beta3 which includes new GUI improvements, right click the icon to access them.

I have set up a way to easily give feedback and suggest new features. It can be found here.

As I have not received any feedback on the temporary fix in the SC2RAR beta, I will simply implement an option to copy the replay to a different folder and rename the copy. This should eliminate any interaction between the renamer and SC2.

Changelog:
* There is now a graphical setup wizard/menu. Access it by right clicking the tray icon (interceptor).
* Replays can now be copied into a different folder and renamed. This should fix any disconnect problems people were having.
* Note: Setting the "Copy-to" folder as the folder you are watching works, but you will end up with both replays in the same folder, so it is not recommended.

I will attempt to solve this in update4.

odd bugs since patch 11, seems to think every ladder game has 4 players, it adds two computers in the name of the replay; even on 2 player maps.

Any plans to update? this is a great program =D

Working on updating for release. Seemingly only slight changes in the data structure so will probably not take more than a day or two.

The existing auto-move function in SC2RAR should make auto-saving recent "Unsaved" replays into "Multiplayer" as easy as setting the correct folders.

SC2RAR just closes unexpectedly when a replay shows up for it to work on, without renaming or moving. I'm on Win7

edit: Oh, let me try that one you just posted.

edit 2: Yep, 8 works perfectly for me. Thanks a lot man.

I tried both ReplayRenamer 7 and SC2RAR 8, and both doesn't work on me.

SC2RAR 8 fails to rename and crash upon game ends.
ReplayRenamer 7 crashes as soon I drag replays onto it, and the replay name end up in random strings.

I am using Window 7, and playing on South East Asia server (Everyone has an english name).

I haven't tried this myself this, and there's a good chance it won't work but:

You could try running multiple instances, each with it's settings configured so it uses it's own folder and moves a single type of game each.

An awesome app, had actually been working on a windows service to do the same thing
I left you a suggestion for the dynamic naming, in my view i really think it needs a running number option [0001] -> [0002] etc

keep up the good work!

There seems to be a bug with the renamer (and possibly the autosaver) where it saves the matchup as ZvX or XvZ when it's ZvP (and not random).

Yeah, the X race thing was blizzard cleverly moving the position of the race data slightly to the right.
Its fixed in the upcoming version.

Is the website for this down? Looks great but wanted to read up on it before trying...

Also, I'm in SEA, is that an issue using this? Or entirely irrelevant? Probably the website will tell me, will try again later.

Thanks for putting this together, its a great idea!

I just downloaded version 9 (my first version). I wanted sc2rar to catalog all the replays currently in my unsaved folder before playing any more games, so after telling sc2rar to watch the unsaved folder, I moved all the replays to another directory, then moved them all back in to unsaved. This caused sc2rar to crash .

It seemed to do everything right, as all the replays were copied and renamed into the folder I set.

I may have just missed how you get sc2rar to catalog existing replays.

Either way, thanks again!

What I did was move them one by one since there are only 25 in your unsaved folder it shouldn't take too long. I don't know if moving them together is possible but I didn't feel like trying after you said it was crashing for you.

I've been using this program for a month or so and i seem to have a problem where the program just closes (i assume it crashed) without warning and i always end up renaming half the replays myself. I have no idea what's causing the program but im using windows 7 and not sure if im the only 1 with this program. I tried using the debug feature to delay the replay renaming, tried values from 1-15 seconds and it doesn't seem to help. Let me know if u know how to fix this or is having the same problem!

my maplist.txt only has 2 things in it:

Blistering Sands|Blistering Sands
금속도시|Metalopolis

I'm assuming this is the reason that it hasn't worked so far. Is there anywhere I can download a maplist.txt that has the correct names, or can I just add all of them manually?

For some reason the auto-renamer isn't working. There are "X"s instead of T's randomly. For example

PTXPvXXTX KeyShaun DaCrook Skaster Trikster vs Kokhlos exo Brunch ThelVlaster on Megaton[d02e09a3]
PvX exo vs ThelVlaster on Lost Temple[7a38a54a]
PvX exo vs ThelVlaster on Metalopolis[4f79dd7b]
SC2 name: ThelVlaster on NA server

I can't get mine to work at all. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. I have the watch folder set to the unsaved folder. Then i have the 2nd folder set to a folder I made inside my multiplayer folder. I play a game, nothing happens.

Probably won't be able to get a new version out for a while, the goal is to release it after patch 1.1 is out, so I can fix the issues that brings at the same time.

I can't get it to work myself. But other people seem to be able to. Not sure why mine doesn't work.

Luckily, my major is computer programing, so I'll just make a version for myself that does the same thing. I just need to figure out how to read the replay data first, which so far has eluded me.

TL.net EXCLUSIVE
SC2RAR Update10 BETA

Think you guys can test this version and see if it works for you?
I had successful renames on replays from US, EU and Korea in my tests.

Any non-english race names WILL appear as an X unless I am told what the translation is

If its crashing completely, try installing the .net 3.5 redist

As for other questions:

I attempted to drop a lot of replays into the folder and the program crashed, why?

SC2RAR itself is made for persistent renaming, not batch-renaming of a lot of files at the same time. I had a separate program for renaming multiple files, but it fell behind in the development and I stopped updating it.

my maplist.txt only has 2 things in it

Yes. The maplist.txt is an optional feature that renames or shortens map names.
So if you change "Blistering Sands|Blistering Sands" to "Blistering Sands|BS", or any other combination of "existing map name|the name you want it to have", it will rename it for you.

I just need to figure out how to read the replay data first, which so far has eluded me.

Get an MPQ-reading library for your language of choice. The info is in the file "replay.details". The fun part is figuring out the offsets. Especially since blizzard decided to have slightly different ones for each region.

I played vs a computer to test this out and when exiting the game I was greeted with a "SC2RAR has stopped working ... searching for the problem blah blah blah"

Running with sorted folders and sound effect if that makes any difference. Win7. More info available just give me a yell, I'm unsure what you're looking for. Will check out that link.

EDIT: Unfortunate. No luck.

Its pretty much a release-ready beta, which means its perfectly safe to try. Its just to make sure I got the proper settings for each area when gathering data from the replays. If no problems are found, this will be the new version I release.

tested vs computer

That will most likely crash, actually I am sure it will crash every single time.
The replay data for matches against the computer is so different it wont parse nicely unless I redo a lot of the code, and I don't have the time for that. The program was made to auto-rename ladder replays against players, not for games vs the computer or non-regular custom games.

It's trivial to fix at the moment as I said on your website. Wrap the call to the parse and rename method in a try..catch and it won't crash. It will silently fail to rename the replay and be fine. It's very annoying now to play on yabot game and not have any ladder games past that point get saved due to the crash. I fixed it on my machine but won't share it, it's your code, not mine.

Thank you for making this. I was going to do it, but you pretty much built what I needed. If you want, open source it and others can build on it

Oh, yeah I can do that. But I won't be fixing the actual parsing.

As for making it open source, that is something I have been considering. The only problem with that is that its very easy to edit it to do something malicious, and if people start posting their versions, people might blame me for any trouble that causes.

Its easy to say "please only download from links in my posts or on my website", but how many regular users actually listen to that?

I don't think you need to fix the actual parsing. It's perfectly acceptable to say this is for ladder games only. Just having it crash for non ladder games is not nice

I see your point about the open source thing. Specially that I don't think you'll have time to maintain it and make sure nothing bad goes in.

Maybe open source or release the parsing portion as a library? I don't think there's a working parser library for .net at this point in time. There was one, but doesn't work at all anymore.

Regardless, I personally love your version. Does one thing and does it well (minus the crash). Good job sir.

SC2RAR Update 10

Changelog:
* The program will now silently fail to rename games vs AI opponents. THIS IS HOW IT IS SUPPOSED TO WORK.
* Added some more languages to the internal translation of race names. If a race appears as an X, and it is NOT random, its because I don't know the correct translation for that race.
* Some bugfixes

Great tools warcode. I'm trying to use the batch-renamer (RenamerU7), and I have a couple comments.

It seems to be failing to detect races correctly on the latest 1.1.1 replays. I'm getting stuff like "2010.10.10.0918_XvX_alexander.vs.zincsterio.__[f44f2200]".

Also, is there any way you can give the dynamic formatter more freedom? I would like to do:
"yyyy-mm-dd_Player1(R)_vs_Player2(R)_Map_[Id]". But right now I don't think this can be done with the current dynamic renaming.

Thanks!

Yeah, if you could incorporate batch renaming into SC2RAR that would be awesome, since I would like to rename some older replays.

Any comments on whether you'd be able to make dynamic naming more flexible? Say "yyyy-mm-dd_Player1(R)_vs_Player2(R)_Map_[Id]" format? All the data is there, but just more control by user in defining pattern?

Thanks.

|Date|_|Normal.|_|on|_|Map|_[|ID|]
is the closest you can get at this time.

I was going to make a better dynamic system, but I never got around to it. And these days I have to really look to find any free time to spend on this. But when I do get some time it IS on my todo list.

Just wanted to say that the autorenamer isn't working for me anymore for the latest patch (I have been manually drag and dropping files into the batch renamer). The batch renamer has problems though, because it doesn't list matchups correctly and often times writes the maps names out as just jargon.

Also, when I set the delay between renaming to anything it just resets itself to 0 even if I save and close.

Could the problem be related at all to the fact that I put custom names for maps into the txt file? I abbreviated most of the map names like this

+ Show Spoiler +
Blistering Sands|BS
Metalopolis|Metal
Lost Temple|LT
Kulas Ravine|KR
Jungle Basin|JB
Shakuras Plateau|SP
Delta Quadrant|DQ
Xel'Naga Caverns|XC

I also use a dynamic setup like this:

And I'm using windows XP sp2 i believe.

doesnt work properly for me

i set the watch folder to my offline unsaved folder, then a different copy/destination folder, i drop a save file then if works.

BUT if i change my watch folder to the online account unsaved folder, and dont change anything else in the settings, it does work anymore! then i change the watch folder back to offline unsaved, and drop another replay it works...

then i deleted the offline unsaved folder and made a new folder with the "Unsaved" name and tested it again, it didnt work this time... wth

Fantastic stuff warcode! The dynamic renaming is great, but it would be awesome if we could get a list of possible variables shown in-line with the Format screen, or at least a list somewhere online.

It would also be awesome if you could specify folder names iun the dynamic format:

|Map|\|Date| - |Matchup|.|Players|

Would expand to:
Lost Temple\2010.12.21.11.53 - PvZ.chuckg vs warcode

Keep up the great work.

These programs both sound excellent, but neither one works for me. The renamer simply crashes when I drag and drop files to be renamed, and the auto-renamer isn't responding to the arrival of files in the watch folder.

I really recommend that you release the source for this. From what I've read from others, it's a good start, but it needs maintaining!

As I have little to no time for updating the project myself these days I hereby release it to everyone under the GPL license.

It is written in C#/.NET, it uses MpqLib for accessing the replay mpqs, the code is not really commented at all, and you will have to figure the parsing out on your own as I have lost my handy reference file.

Please note that any future release of SC2RAR is not made or quality checked by me, and you should always virus scan unknown software with a scanner such as http://www.virustotal.com/.

Download:SC2RAR Source

Anyone wishing to continue with their own version of the project can feel free to keep using this thread, or create a new one if they want. I require no mention or credits, but hey, its always nice.

I updated this program for my own personal uses. Unfortunately in the process I stripped out most of the old functionality due to changes in the underlying engine (MpqLib). If there's people out there that want an updated version of this application, let me know (via PM) and I'll finish it up so that it has the original features.
