Five months ago, Blizzard had a conference call, and the bad news hit us. No beta in 2009. It's time for another conference call, will we be getting good news this time?
On Wednesday the 10th of February Blizzard releases their 2009 results calendar and will also hold a conference call that will be broadcast over the Internet. Last year on August the fifth we got the bad news that the beta would not see the day of light because of the development of the new Battle.net platform, and it had been pushed to the first half of 2010. In hopes for new announcements, the expectations are of course sky-high, this could be the day that Blizzard announces the beta date, and maybe a release date for Starcraft 2. It's still speculations if they will announce anything, but this is in fact broadcast over the Internet.
10 February 2010 approx.1300 zulu - Dustin Browder: "I'm probably going to do terrible, terrible damage to the mic by saying this...but IT'S BETA TIME!"
Let's just leave this for what it is - standard financial report/conference call that is going to be broadcast....Does it really seem reasonable that they would announce beta during that call? No. It's going to be like CEO/CFO/COO, Bobby "dolla dolla bills" Kotick and a couple bankers sitting in, talking finances for investors.

There is more. Spychi from SCL says that he has a source that says beta will start before the end of Febuary. Spychi runs a European fansite.

Yeah lots of us have heard rumblings but i still doubt that an announcement is going to be made during a financial conference call. After all of this do you really think they are going to go "oh btw beta starts Feb 15, which is pretty cool right investors?"

As true as it is considering the scope of Starcrafts fan base I could see them letting investors know that they plan on keeping media attention on the company due to the pending beta start date. Media attention is a good thing, investors like it when its good, so it would be feasible to think it may be mentioned
We would like to alert everyone that the Beta security advisory system has been elevated to Code Orange. Repeat, the Beta security advisory system has been elevated to Code Orange.
This is not a drill people. Once again, if you have any, and I mean any information about a possible Beta date we urge you to come forward to the proper authorities. We will continue to monitor the situation as it develops.

Well, actually, Mike Morhaime did make game announcements during the last conference call (in august).
Mass Effect 2 and Bioshock 2 are just around the corner so if they want to delay beta again casual players shouldent care about that anymore and Starcraft fanatics can always just continue playing Starcraft. So at this point smart players who are dissapointed in Blizzard politics last few years dont need to care much. When it is done it is done.

i'll disagree with u... alghouth i think they won't be officially announcing beta, they have the interest to pass information about the development since financial analysts takes that into consideration (release of games) when pricing their stocks....
To me it sounds and looks like Kennigit is trying to hide something! First instinct is almost right every time... But the beta wont come out until blizzard has some competition against them.
Nothing good can come out of the conferece, beta date won't be announced. I'm just hoping beta will come out this year. Fear of a SC2 cancel is raising...
Wednesday the 21st, Blizzard Entertainment, PlayXP 『via e-mail sent forward to the beta test prior to entering the application receives the participation of experts』 said.

This year will be the release of StarCraft 2 and one quarter of that time as the beta test was expected to begin doeeojyeo.
Well, google translation looks like it says beta invites will go out soon (within a week?) and then you have 26 days to accept or reject it, then it will start after 26 days? Sounds exciting!
edit: or maybe the experts thing means progamers in Korea will get to test?
The most that would be announced during the call is whether they still intend to release the game in 2010. Maaaaybe a rough (~# of months remaining until) number for the beta, but unlikely--some investors probably don't even know what a beta is.

Interesting, but North America and Australia get to beta test first so i'm not putting much weight to this indicating a beta start date.
people still don't understand that it's Bnet 2.0 that is postponing SC2, the game itself has been ready with the first beta announcement. IF they don't solve Bnet 2.0 not only SC2 gets cancelled but Diablo 3 as well along with the future World of warcraft expansion and every other future game Blizzard plans to release since they have the BattleNet 2.0 structure built into them!

No, he's not wrong, but you're not wrong either. The game is very playable in its current state, and they have said on a few occasions that there's not a whole lot of balancing that can be done without "fresh blood" trying it out. However, yes they are still tweaking units and other things. But of course they are; it's not like the developers are sitting on their hands waiting for Bnet 2.0 to be ready. If Bnet 2.0 was 100% ready right now, the beta would be out; Blizzard wouldn't hold it back because they haven't finalized 100% all the units and abilities.

Yes, they are still finalizing the Zerg units and making changes to the protoss macro component, which could had been done hella of allot faster if they were in BETA where they could get input from a other players if the changes they do are working as intended!

This is the correct attitude. It enables one to be pleasantly surprised if something does finally happen and to remain calm if nothing does.

Haha "the correct attitude" I like that phrase.
But where is the passion?!?
Passion is back in 2007, and halfway through 2008. Along with hype, excitement and hope.
Do you guys really think it's *impossible* for Blizzard to cancel SC2? I think not - they have done it twice in the recent past. And when I think about it, it gives me the creeps.
Of course - canceling the Warcraft adventure game and SC: Ghost is one thing, and cancelling *THE* Starcraft II is something else. I can only hope that when the game comes out, it's absolutely groundbreaking to the point it'll keep SC alive for another 10 years.
Argh, posting this almost makes me cry. I simply can't wait any longer!
SC2 has the similar delay nostalgia we get from SC:Ghost and WC Adventures (if you remember way back then), but there's still a key difference: Those games that got cancelled obviously sucked.
I watched the SC:Ghost coverage for two years and never once thought the game looked even mildly entertaining =/
On the other hand, the reviews I read last year make it look like the SC2 blizzcon build could have been release-worthy with a crappy online service by other publisher standards (Not as picky about imbalance). I can't think of a good reason for why SC2 could get canceled besides some catastrophe/act of God. What reason do you think could cancel it?
I wouldn't say it's impossible, but right now it's about as likely as the WoW expansion getting canceled
Eah all blizzard games have gone through massive amounts of delays. They promised beta in 09 and it was pushed back. i think thats the first actual push back of the game.
I do find it funny as hell walking into gamestop/bestbuy ect and asking how they get their inside information on how sc is going to be out in 3 weeks when there has yet to be beta lols.

The beta alert level is no laughing matter citizen. Especially since we are dangerously close to red. I would advise everyone to follow the chatter on SCL. There is allot of reasons to doubt that this might be it...but theres also lot a reasons to not.

No i'm not going but they do one of these every financial quarter and release the minutes from it.
Supposedly their stock doesn't move because top execs keep selling their shares, which can be regarded as a negative signal to trump pretty much all positive ones. Also, a lot of people who buy/sell stocks don't understand the video game industry very well, so they project problems of the rest of the industry onto Blizzard--hence the stock dropping so much since the 23% (?) decline in PC sales was announced.

They only cancel games if they have a reason for it. SC2 have had no problems so far.

The Blizzard announced yesterday that it will be a press conference at which he will announce his plan on publishing this year. What is interesting, all this will be "once set" on the Internet for information for all. Final press conference took place a few weeks ago and announced they no beta in 2009, but it was not a conference open to all. The question suggests itself: if they publish again no beta? Or maybe start? Below is the content of the notice concerning the conference:
SANTA MONICA, Calif.., Jan 20, 2010 / PRNewswire via COMTEX News Network / - Activision Blizzard, Inc.. (Nasdaq: ATVI) intends this release its fourth quarter and calendar year 2009 results after the close of the market on Friday, February 10, 2010. In conjunction with this release, Activision Blizzard will host a conference call that will be broadcast over the Internet.
Wednesday, February 10, 2010 1:30 pm Pacific Time (4:30 pm Eastern Time)
In addition, we managed to get some less official information:
Blizzard at the end of 2009 would give Betis for Christmas and had to be a Christmas gift for the Fan. It turned out that, however, are unable to start due to problems with network services, namely the creation of so-called. Lobby. When you attach the player to the game he was not seen on the list. Also, after the start of gameplay have been problems of this type. There were also other problems mentioned above, but this was the greatest bane of developers.
The game designers tried to continue and try to code optimization for the Beta was the best prepared and it seems they came out great.
Apart from these problems, I received news yesterday that tests of the game have a great time and in accordance with the "meter" (unfortunately we can not specify what counter to it) are very close to success.
We give one more very important fact. Now, Blizzard wants to (and this is a) to Beta launched by the end of February. Yes, yes - this year). Beta for friends, employees and the press has a chance to even get started this month. A very important day is Monday (25 January), when it will happen very important meeting in the BLIZZARD and a lot of it depends on when it comes to Betis.
Additionally, the site pages ThisIsGame.com one user gave to the information that the records of the Beta to the press already started and will continue until January 26, which further adds smaczku the whole matter.
Sounds like this guy says they've been close with the beta for a while and that more information is likely to come in the next week or so (apparently Monday or Tuesday).
The only semi interesting thing about it is that they say blizzard wants to have beta by the end of February, but wants and reality and hardly the same.

Correct. The thing that was keeping the beta on hold seems to have been figured out, and now a meeting on monday will give the go ahead for beta if everything looks ok.
Did I say they were? It was a logical guess considering they fail to produce every time people get hyped. After multiple times over multiple years I just have no trust left in the company that they'll give what the fans want.

the second to last sentence, the "specifics" refers to the beta testing, i.e.
"We will tell you about any specifics about beta testing that become finalized as soon as we can."
And the part about what beta testing involves:
"I can definitely say that the Beta test will not just involve industry experts and other VIPs but rather will start out involving all fans of the franchise."
So basically, fans will be able to beta test from the very beginning. I assume by fans, they mean people with a beta key.
Yesterday blizzard annouced a press conference, at which blizzard's publishing plan will be announced. What is interesting is that, it will be broadcasted via the internet. The last press conference was a few weeks ago, and on that day they annouced that the starcraft II beta will not come out in 2009, but that conference wasn't publicly accessible. The question asks itself: Will the beta be further delayed, or will it be annouced? Below is the public announcement of the press conference.
On top of that we were able to gather some less official information: Blizzard wanted to release the beta as a christmas gift for 2009, but unfortunately they weren't able to do it due to problems with creating a Lobby for players to sit it and wait for games. When a player joined a game, he wasn't shown on the list (my private note - i assume he means that when a player joined a game, he wasn't shown in the game lobby). Also after the start of the game, the problem persisted. There were also other problems, but that was the biggest issue at hand.
The game's developers tried and are still trying to optimize the game's code so that Sc2 will run as smoothly as possible, and from what we've heard they've done a very good job.
Putting aside the formerly mentioned problems, I received information yesterday that the game's testings are going very well, and are "on time" with blizzard's inner developement schedule, and they are very close to finishing.
We can say 1 thing for sure: Blizzard wants (and this time it's really ready) to release the Beta before the end of February. Yes, yes - the February of this year . The beta for close friends and family has a chance to start even this month. The 25th of January (Monday) is supposedly a very important date, when a very important meeting will happen at Blizz HQ. This meeting will have a huge say about the Beta itself.
In additionto all this, for ThisIsGame.com 1 of the users passed on information that the Beta inscriptions for press attendies have already begun, and will last till the 26th of January, which adds a lot of excitement to this whole thing.
Down to lobby issues? That's a pretty good sign. Thanks for the polish translation. That was very enlightening. Looks like all the rumors flying around are true. I'd better finish my personal projects now before I don't have any time later.
Most betas have a "friends and family" beta 2 months or more before the "closed beta" starts; more often than not, pro gamers and top gamers from the community, as well as press members (mostly owners and staff of websites likely to write articles related to the game, review it, etc.) are invited into the beta secretly as well, but it's very difficult to find good games because there are only a few good players (around ten tops) and hundreds of magazine writers, website owners, and loads of other people who have never played an online game in their lives. It's really very frustrating and you have to wait around for hours to get a close competitive game.

Back in July we had that whole fake leak about a friends and family beta starting (http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=97320), and all the information we scrounged up from past betas set a precedent of like 2-3 days from F&F to the standard closed beta.

Can you give more details abtou your previous beta playtesting experience? Wha tdo you expet?
WoW games had a friends and family alphas, but none of them had friends and family betas. And that was because there's a lot more content to test in an MMO. This beta will be the full closed beta.

LOL. I don't remember the last time someone was 100% wrong, but it doesn't matter we have a winner. This is completely and utterly pulled straight from your ass.
A) "Most" betas don't have FnF. And 2 months before? lol. B) Pro Gamers and Top gamers from the community? There aren't many games where people are 'pro's' lol. And I'm pretty sure they wouldn't invite press or top gamers, or website owners 'secretly', that would be taking a step backwards lol.

C) Not sure what you're saying there, maybe the people invited to the 'secret' beta aren't even playing, they're just trying to watch other 'top gamers' play? lol
All in all, either you're pulling this from nowhere, or you have no clue what a beta is.
Hello, I'm one of the two administrators of www.scarea.pl . I am sorry but the information above is false. It was created to get attention to the site. I just don't want to create further confusion by keeping another fake rumor alive and know too many people who care more about keeping a lie than telling the truth. The site news will be removed and replaced with this accurate information. I just know more people visit Teamliquid.net so I wanted to reply here first. Sorry once again, Tomasz Spychi Spychala

I have a chance in hell of getting a beta key, but an announcement of beta release means a final release is only months away and I can finally estimate at what point this year I start my life as an anti-social shut in.

I would perfer not to talk about SCL matters on this forum. However I will restate that I did not close the thread.
On a more positive note I suspect that Gifted will create a new thread with all the relevant rumour information presented in a clear and concise manner. That should make it allot easier for you guys to follow. Some if not all of spychi's info was false but Gifteds "gifts" may still have potential.

I said "some if not all" of spychi's info. While you get points for confessing I am in serious question of your reliability. I will let others decide for themselves but as for me spychi, Im disappointed.

Blizzard: After the blunder of MBCGame yesterday in the finals of the 2 greatest players of all time, we agreed to destroy Kespa and take over e-sports. We will need time for this to make it happen. After a couple of years of succesful leagues of SC1 by Blizzard, then we will go back to SC2.

I guess Browder was not kidding when he said this:
We are trying to make this game complete – like if nobody buys any other product, this game needs to be awesome. Like if Blizzard gets hit by a meteor tomorrow and we all die, at least StarCraft II was awesome – that's what it needs to be.
It is purely a guess but to me it seems very logical they could put beta relase dates at the end of battlereport 5 which could be revaled day or two before this conference . Also I belive beta could be here early-mid March which would put final release around Sepember. Now if they decide to ship game around Chrismas beta could be here as late as mid summer. Anything can happen at this point.
After reading all the blues on the battle.net forums today I think I'm more excited by that than anything else. I don't think I've seen moderation close to this in months

Umm.. Does anyone know any of the top gamers who have been approached by Blizzard for beta testing? Gifted from SCL posted a hint saying "Pro-gress".. could relate to something about Pros already installing/playing right now..
I dunno if that means just korean pros, or if the top western players like Nony/Idra/etc are included in that. (If thats really what it means)

Well there was a lot of Asian press talking about press and progamers. I think it's probably very likely and shouldn't need confirmation. The pros that will be in beta are probably less likely to be people we know very well. Flash isn't going to let SC2 beta get in the way of practice

Oh god, that would be such sex! Here's to hoping, but I won't get my expectations too high, still I expect it soon.
WTF is Blizzard doing, honestly. I picture a team of guys just sleeping on the job. Seriously, 3 years after announcement and like 6 years of development?
What the fuck are they doing?
And the sad part is on release the game will (obviously) not be perfect, because no game is, and patching will take months, and it doesn't look like the game is revolutionary or anything. In fact it decidedly is not, so I really have no clue what they spent all this time doing. Tweaking the minor stats of units for 3 years?
Fuck me. I'm like Blizzard's biggest supporter, but still.

All i know is that because of all this bullshit we have been talking about i got hyped again about this shit and no beta yet... so let me go back to my poorly designed but yet entertaining SCBW and let's stop thinking there will be any beta this decade!

WoW wasn't released until more than 3 years after it was announced, and it's hard to get an accurate idea of how much work went on in early development for SC2 because a lot of the team was working on WoW back in 2004.
WoW as an MMO probably should take longer than SC2, but then again Blizzard is also doing Battle.net 2.0 at the same time, which has to support WoW/SC2/D3. According to Blizzard, Battle.net 2.0 is what's been taking so long.

Ya their beta dates have been pushed back at least 2 times "officially" just in 2009. The first target was Summer of 2k9 as stated above. As summer rolled around and they weren't ready they retracted and said, "beta will be out by end of 2009". Of course these dates weren't cemented in the ground, but they were target dates that blizzard was confident in making enough to the point they told us about them.
Saying all that, even if the game took another 4 years to make. Once released we will be too busy playing to care about all this pre-release drama.
Apparently Morhaime isn't the most reliable source in regards to beta? When Xordiah confirmed beta wouldn't come until 2010 she seemed genuinely confused that Morhaime had ever said that.
In his defense, I believe his exact words were "I'm confident beta will start before the end of the year," which could be simply interpreted as an opinion (although that would be a silly "opinion" for a company leader to say on TV).
Blizzard pays people to know what we are thinking and it must be pretty easy to figure out that the overall community is losing fate... on the other had we are all playing / talking about a 12 year old game.

I would say that "people losing faith" is more so people being so incredibly anxious that we lash out and say "fuck it", even though on the inside we want it more than ever. This is at least the case for me... T_T
Imagine if Blizzard was doing all these things (Conference Call, SC2 beta client, fake system requirements etc..) to get us all hoping that the beta will be released before end of February. Then, during the conference call, they'll rick-roll us. I'd be laughing so hard for about a hour then cry myself to sleep.
I think sc2 is super close. Artoises and Tasteless live in Korea now. WHY ? They prepare the next GomTV but for SC2. I AM SURE OF THAT and also this make sense. We will have a GOMTV season 4 in max one month after the beta is here.

Someone spoiled what Artosis is up to. I'm pretty sure its a foreigner starleague that is going to be held in person (people will fly in to Las Vegas). That way it will presumably be with booths and whatnot so commentary can be live instead of with replays like in TSL1/2. I think incontrol said this during the most recent arena.
As for GOM SC2, seems likely given the GOM / Blizzard partnership. Artosis said in a weekly recently that GOM SC1 has no chance of happening. However, I don't think this is evidence that beta will come soon; I'm guessing Artosis has no idea when it is coming. GOM probably thought it would happen a lot sooner and is probably disappointed it has been delayed so long. Also, I don't know that GOM would be able to cast a beta tournament. That might be really awesome for helping balance high level play. And the beta probably won't be totally locked down given that so many people have keys and they have already made games publicly available with Nada and battle reports, not to mention having the game playable and Blizzcon and the like.
Why are you so eager for the beta of SC2 to come? Personally I can wait. I'm playing StarCraft 1 and I am far from done with it. I haven't reached A+ yet, so

This is it guys, conference is only 6 days away and there can be only 2 options
a) beta date is announced maybe even beta is released day before or couple of days after conference
b) conference ends without any new beta info, insted they give us usual bs reply like "team is working very hard on beta final touches bla bla bla " which means no beta in February so community speculation moves forward to March

I bet this. I doubt the conference call is going to have beta release info. The only info regarding beta they will be giving to the shareholders is "we are on plan in 2010, that is beta in Q2 and release in Q3".
there was an update on the SC2 release window on every previous AB earnings call so we will have news. but we don't know if it will be bad or good If Morhaime will confirm the last target date(first half of 2010) than the beta will have to start in a few days.
According to a post from SAwful, some guy thinks he has insider info that the beta is due out on the 12th, which could make sense, since their conference call is on the 10th.

That's what I suspect also. A lot of "Current economic climate" and "untapped resources in growing markets" talk.
The people in the Beta Forums Live... thread are sure going to be disappointed if it's the case.
Last year I put up $30 to start a SC2 pre-order 1 day before the conference call in which it was delayed. Yesterday I put another $30 down on my pre-order. Sorry. My bad.

So they delayed Beta during the last conference call?
Actually, they said SC2 was right on schedule. Then a few days later they revealed that said schedule had changed, and that it was "right on track" for their new schedule
That's an interesting way to put it. Next time I'm not going to finish what I should, I'll tell my advisor it's right on schedule, but not the schedule he thinks.

Confusing! But if they do announce a Beta date today it think it won't be starting this month anyways. On another note how "easy" has it been in past betas of Blizzard games, I can recall anything "BIG" as other games. I find it easy to get keys to almost every game that has a Beta but is SCII and Diablo III an exception on that part?

Just like the Zerg it assimilates other species (Duke Nukem Forever) and evolves into something that's released even later!

Well they have done it before without having any super awesome information.
I'm still confident we will be much wiser after the call, especially as tomorrow is the 1000th day since SC2 going "official" and thats just far too good to be a coincidence.
I don't expect anything for a while. Why would they give us a video and huge amount of information on Bnet2.0 if BETA was about to be released? I think people don't realize that the Bnet2.0 preview was the big update..
Absolutely nothing here to be excited about! Beta will not be out, they already put out the big bnet 2.0 news out to tell us that, but people still refuse to believe that is the only announcement. They gave us some new information to talk about for 6 months till the next announcement.
BTW where is my beta key from that cake I made last June?!?!?!!!
Here's an interesting link from SCLegacy telling what Blizzard said at previous investor's conferences about SC2 and its development, including beta. Scroll down to the "Tool 5" section. Apparently you don't know what they discussed in the last conference call. There was TONS of discussion about the progress they were making on SC2.
I can't imagine the beta won't be mentioned. This is a call for investors, so they won't talk about new Protoss macro mechanics, but SC2 is a big deal for Blizzard as a company, and their investors will want to know about it.
That said, they mention it by saying "it is still on schedule, for some schedule, which we won't reveal." But it's too big not to come up.

I'm depending on that as well and seeing as Blizzcon 2009 they didn't give many keys away I think they probably have enough for the first phases and are only going to pick just a few players.
Too bad they don't have like official application letters or something, that way accomplished players would get in easier and us hardcore fans would have a better chance as well.

On February 11 2010 03:02 Frolossus wrote: Wouldn't someone be able to get their hands on the beta and crack it for the public?
Not easily at all.
Creating a bnet2 emulator is going to be a pain in the ass and there's zero chance you're getting in on the official one with a cracked version of the game.
Honestly it'd probably take long enough for the game to enter the market, unless the bad guys have a R1CH clone on their side.
While unlikely it'd be great if the people who do not get in could play a single player demo version at least, so the servers wouldn't get cooked but we could still enjoy the game and report bugs.
On February 11 2010 03:02 Frolossus wrote: Wouldn't someone be able to get their hands on the beta and crack it for the public?
Yes it will happen guaranteed but not like the other guy above me is saying. What I think will happen is it will get cracked but instead of a bnet2 emulator they will make a "lan" type of thing like hamachi or something so that you can play the game just not play on the official servers. I would be surprised if something similar to what I said doesn't happen.
Lets not forget last year before summer they did confirn that beta will have skirmish mode. That was soo long ago plans may be changed but if beta is shipped with skirmish we will likely be playing that mode offline in day or two after beta gets in hands to Blizzcon winners thanks to frendly neighborhood hackers.
On February 11 2010 04:35 HuskyTheHusky wrote: I invest my heart into Blizzard. Is that enough to be told when beta will be today <3?
There's probably still a decent chance of a cut and paste PR response about a Q2 release and beta "soon," but even that won't get me down. Unless they announce a delay today we're very close to beta.
You guys mentioning there won't be anything about beta in this conference should just chill .They deserve this kind of information for investors as you can see above taken from an extract from a Financial Analysis of MLX for Activision Blizzard in the last paragraph. Yes you won't know nothing about the macro mechanics of protoss and about when the day of beta will be OR the game will be released. But this kind of information is extremely important for investors and their financial model so something along the lines "next month", next week", "in two months" may be revealed.

We are proud to announce we have made a shit ton of money more than we expected. we have record cash flow and we are lining our houses with 100$ bills as we speak
we would like to thank everyone who is working hard at blizzard during this challenging economic time. this year in addition to our strong financial performance we incrased our retail share to 16%, executed the largest entertainment launch in history, modern borefare two
by investing in leveraging the expantion of our brand we believe we are able to deliver to consumers the game they love while avoiding something with big words
we plan to apply the bulk of our resources to what makes the most money, not what is the most active, we plan to make a lot of money off this
as we enter 2010 we are mindful that we need to make a lot of money because we are a company.
we plan to expand in handhelds
we expect to leverage our strengths brands and what we know we can do.

Shouldn't people be expecting there not to be a beta announcement? Couldn't they chose a more entertaining way to announce beta? Chosing to announce it during this would be a mistake, I would think, that they wouldn't make.

we conservately manage costs and spending. talking that they use their money well and dont hire people they dont need, allowing them to make a 29% margin of profit or something
we spent billions of dollars and have not borrowed money or have debt.
we have a second billion dollar buy back in 2 years, and cash dividends (i known othing about finances so this shit might be way off he talks fast)
i'd like to turn the call over to some guy who's going to talk about blizzard
thank you bobby
today i'll begin with results of our 4th quarter, and outlooks for first quarter
People, just keep in mind that there might not be anything. I know we are all eager to see if anything is going to be announced, but do not be too suprised if nothing happens.
this is higher than a year ago where we also returned a billion dollars
we bought back a ton of shares for 10.87
this puts us in a very strong posistion to do w/e da fuk we want
we plan to buy back another billion dawlas of shares back in 2010 and continue this in the future
given our strong amount of money, we are pleased to further inhance shareholder return. we want to make shareholder value something that is good in the industry
we will elevate capital and some fancy words
we belive that the future has economic advantages that we will access.
now im moving to some other sheet with a shit ton of money that we made on it
inventories were 221 million and all this matches up with last year
in terms of cash flow in 2009 we generated 1.2 billion dollars of opperating cash flow
that is 10 times better than our next best competitor because we blizz and they see us rollin
we make far more money than anyone else
in summary our strong december quarter helped us get further ahead of all otehr companies which puts us in the best posistion to look forward to long term growth
there are risks still out there having to do with something but we all know nothing bad will happen to blizzard
as a result of these actual results may be different than the outlook today
we enter 2010 with a conservative approach due to part to uncertanties in the economy
wait what? i never saw that slide.. can anyone confirm it's validity
fake
No, it's legit. Just select "Slide 14". -_-
with the blizzard logo overlapping the activision logo?... i dont think so. fake. and you cant choose a slide on the presentation (at least with windows media player)
for modern warfare two it broke all records during holiday season and made over a billion dollars to date
this has helped us make a lot of money with a leap frog strategy to make exceptional quality with our newest games
our team leveraged social media by making a really cool facebook page where you can add us as a fan and this is ground breaking
in our finance chains we executed the biggest global launch of our company with out running out of games where they were most wanted without risking credit
we have become more effecient and are approaching new titles cautiosly which makes it so we only release good games
we succesffuly introduced dj hero which was the highest grossing something and outgrossed the beatles TAKE IT BEATLES

for cod mw 2 PC downloads reached an all time high, a shit ton of guitar hero songs have been downloaded as well as our map packs which should be free but we charge anyway
in one year lots of people play xbox than all the past combined
we released some aps for the iphone which was one of the most popular aps in the world
something was downloaded 1 million times in 7 days which makes them aware of the full price game and to buy it
we plan to continue making downloadable content in the future with a strong catalogue
we plan to release 2 wholey owned ips (?)
now let me dive into more details
beginning with music the category overall was down lots of money due to major declines in ps2 sales and decreased sales in hardware bundle sales especially on the wii because buying plastic drums is stupid
we strengthed our posistion with shares over 50%
unit sales for guitar sales were up on ps3 and xbox 360 which shows we can still make money ehre despite an overall decline
I had to do a chore but if anyone is still wondering what the difference in non-gaap and gaap is:
GAAP is Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, which is how things like audits and performance reports are made for outside interest to look at the company. One of those accepted principles is conservatism, which means if you're very successful one quarter (q4 09 with gay of duty), you can understate the earnings to save for other quarters. That's why the non-gaap is so much smaller for this quarter.

I expect them to not even dare to say anything about how they handled the competitive part of the CoD franchise. Bringing up the issue just makes them look bad once anyone actually looks into the matter.
@Broodie What we are listening for is some kind of hints about SC2.

ok now he's talking about making a boring racing game that is MULTIPLAYER with ways it has never experienced
we plan to launch a multiplayer beta in march of our multiplayer racing game and it is pretty exciting and more competitve than any other racing game
shrek released in may
singularity is about shooting stuff will be released in a while. release transformers which will be better than the others lawl
guitar hero will be released with new guitar hero game and something about another game or something
another game in the 4 billion action genre having to do with asians (?)
looks to be a big open non linear game and are excited about it
we are expected to release another tony hawk ride becausei t was terrible so we are going to release it again so we can be disapointed once more. we have tried making it better but it will still be like standing on a sled
we expect to release games based on spiderman because we all know just how good spiderman games always turn out to be. We are excited (big surprise) for spiderman
we plan to release another call of duty game towards teh end of the year or at some point in the future
we plan to use this to attract new players and keep old players.
we think it will be a big year because of all these titles as well as marketing during the holiday season for maximum profits
we expect to explore new oppurtunities to expand our product all over the place in the coming months
I love how they seem to think that the tony hawk game is fucking brilliant. It's stupid, just like the concept of DJ Hero and Guitar Hero. Why not just skateboard, play guitar or DJ? Moronic to do it virtually.

A blizzard timeline that is more precise than seasonal should not be taken lightly. Especially when the timeline is as immediate as two and a half weeks and not the usual long-term stuff.
What's nice is, I had a snow day today, I have one tomorrow, one day of work (a joke) on Friday, and then 9 days off... so I won't have to work while I'm waiting in anticipation for the official release.

We don't discuss WoW updates and the revenue it could generate, we don't discuss anything about sc2 other than that it's coming out soon. We will not in fact even discuss why my name is Mike.
For competitive reasons we do not discuss what Blizzard makes or does.

LOL no but he answered every single question posed at him with a similar answer:
"we don't do *insert here* because of competitive reasons. we can however state *bs answer here*"
