This song is awesome. It has trash drums AND double guitar solo. Good melody/singer line. And it actually is about starcraft, lol!

Yep there was a blog post about this song some days back

Avatar is a band from Gothenburg, Sweden. They are also Starcraft fans

This is what I wrote in the other thread:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

http://www.press2play.tv/spel/03/avatar-tva-av-vara-latar-handlar-om-starcraft

In this interview 2 of the band members say in swedish that they are huge Starcraft buffs and will play SC2 directly when it comes out. They also mention that they did one SC song on their previous record and a SC2 song on their new record.

Haha, the interviewer lady asks them: "So what are the Starcraft-songs about?"

The guy to the right answers: Zerg. The only "team" (keke) you can play, and be.

The guy to the right goes: "protoss".

The guy to the left (singer) grabs the mic again and says: "Thank god I'm writing the lyrics then."

They conclude by saying that the songs are a tribute to all the fellow Starcraft nerds out there.

It is the swedish Avatar that made the song. Funny that even on the wiki-page to the romanian band, they confuse the two bands.

This is what I was able to interpret. Some things don't really make sense, and some parts I can't understand.

Lyrics:

Hear them marching
[...]
before the [...]
We march as one
I exit dawn
We'll go to war
And by the night I was ready

Now we're breathing, we breath as one
we don't speak but,
we share a thought
we share a hunger
we share a hate
And in the end, we will shed jeff(?)

So far we travel through your nightmares
The Swarm will live and die for
The Queen Of Blades

Now we see her
The wings that carry us
[...]
She is the answer
She is the call
She is the scent we'll follow
Getting stronger [...]
[...]
She knows their kind
She knows their path
And on this path is our victory

So far we travel through your nightmares
The Swarm will live and die for
the Queen Of Blades

Hear us marching
So many [...]
[...]
We march as one
We exit dawn(?)
We go to war
And by the night we were ready

Call on the stars
The swarm is ...
One million roars risen
But it hurts
No more shame
I'll know no shame
No more shame
With my (?)

So far we travel through your nightmares
The Swarm will live and die for
the Queen Of Blades

It's interesting to see how others interpret lyrics. I spent awhile looking around trying to find the lyrics for the song since a lot of people in the YouTube comments were asking for it. I thought it would have been on darklyrics.com, but sadly their most recent album (the s/t) isn't up yet. I've listened to this song a lot the last few days, so I guess I'll give my opinion on what the lyrics are as well. Who knows, maybe we'll eventually figure them out, haha.
(instead of rewriting the whole thing, I decided to just bold what I've changed in your lyrics)

Hear them marching
But not under roof of law
We fall in line and
We march as one
I answer God
The God of war
And by the night I was ready

Now we're breathing, we breath as one
we don't speak but,
we share a thought
we share a hunger
we share a hate
And in the end, we will share death

So far we travel through your nightmares
The Swarm will live and die for her
The Queen Of Blades

Now we see her
The wings that carry us
[...]
She is the answer
She is the call
She is the scent we'll follow
Getting stronger
With scent between the stars,
This human fear, OH rotting stink(?)

She knows their kind
She knows their path
And on this path is our victory

So far we travel through your nightmares
The Swarm will live and die for her
the Queen Of Blades

Hear us marching
So many hooves and claws
We fall in line and
We march as one
We answer God
The God of war
And by the night we were ready

Call on the stars
The swarm has been reborn
One million roars risen
But it hurts
No more shame (these next 3 lines I believe he says 'No machine, oh no machine, no machine ... but you could very well be correct too, that's just what I hear)
I'll know no shame
No more shame
With my (?)

So far we travel through your nightmares
The Swarm will live and die for her

Ew, vocals are terrible garbage, and the guitar is unimaginative and bland. If this wasn't written about SC, I would probably vomit. On second thought, I think that simple fact makes it even worse (if possible). I honestly could probably do better all by my lonesone .

Avatar - Queen of Blades

Hear the marching
(But not the roof or floor?)
We fall in line and
We march as one
I hit at dawn
With total war
And by the night, I was ready

Now we're breathing
We breathe as one
We don't speak, but
We share a thought
We share a hunger
We share a hate
And in the end
We wish you death

[chorus]
So fly
We travel through your nightmares
The swarm will live and die for
The Queen of Blades

Now we see her
The wings that carry us
Beyond her (pools?)
Out of her sleep
She is the answer
She is the call
She is the scent we'll follow

Getting stronger
???? (sacred, size)
This human fear our (???)

She knows her time
She knows her breath
(And on this?) birth is our victory

[chorus]

Hear us marching
So many hooves and claws
We fall in line and
We march as one
We hit at dawn
With total war
And by the night, we were ready

Call (them the stars?)
The swarm has been reborn
With a million roars risen
(Body art? wtf?)

No, the shame
Oh no, the shame
No the shame (let the sun down? Ugh...)

[chorus]

ROOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRGH!!!!!!
Gravity is just a theory anyway.

Yes it is! That is exactly my point. Melodic death metal can do SO much better than this. Look at Amon Amarth, As I Lay Dying, August Burns Red, All That Remains . . . just to limit myself to bands beginning with the letter "A" for the save of brevity.

I'd actually say Avatar is better than Amon Amarth, As I Lay Dying, August Burns red, and All That Remains.

*At least as far as MeloDeath is concerned*

Agreed, but I think metalcore is pretty shitty in general.

Also, I like how all the bands you named with the exception of Amon Amarth aren't even melodic death. :p

Um 3 of those 4 bands you mentioned are metalcore bands (or used to be anyways)

Please don't ever put Amon Amarth in the same category as All that remains again please lol

But I kind of don't like Avatar really either. This song is kind of cool because it's about Starcraft but otherwise the production is weak the shrieking at the beginning without music is horrible, and they flirt alot with the mainstream, making them quite trendy.

Spotify in Sweden had a huge promo campaign with Avatar and every 10 minutes you would hear a Avatar commercial.

It's all the same, metalcore is just an American branding for melodeath. It's really no different from bands like In Flames, just with a little more cheesy chorus, less power chords (less any kind of chord really) and as much as I hate to admit it, more technically advanced playing. The only thing more difficult about In Flames is the strange tunings they insist on playing in, the same goes for Dark Tranquillity. People who categorize it further than that are just being snobby purists for the sheer sake of it - anyone with musical background can see that.

apparently the song All Hail The Queen from the album Slacht is also dedicated to Starcraft.

If you have so much knowledge about recent heavy metal that you can distinguish the genres something already has gone wrong.
Well, now I tell you, I never seen good come o' goodness yet. Him as strikes first is my fancy; dead men don't bite; them's my views--amen, so be it.

Um, no there's a big difference. Those bands come from a hardcore background and then started playing a hybrid known as metalcore. It's not the "same thing" as melodic death metal.

hahaha, a few post and this turned into a metal thread :D
I don't think I've ever wished my opponent good luck prior to a game. When I play, I play to win. I hope every opponent I ever have is cursed with fucking terrible luck. I hope they're stuck playing underneath a stepladder with a black cat in attendance a

Yes it is! That is exactly my point. Melodic death metal can do SO much better than this. Look at Amon Amarth, As I Lay Dying, August Burns Red, All That Remains . . . just to limit myself to bands beginning with the letter "A" for the save of brevity.

Three out of four of those bands aren't close to being melodeath, and the fourth is questionable. And coincidentally, four out of those four bands are frankly rather bad, though I do enjoy a few of their songs :/.

lol how didn't I see this before? All Hail the Queen is sooooooooo epic

She roams the skies on a starless night
Ghosts among drones seeking the final solution
Parasite sees and parasite knows
She'll find you and she'll save us all
It's war

She flies with the lords on winds of the moon
Her visions reaches furthest of all
Whatever the cargo, the carriers will fail
Whatever the cost, the hive must prevail

apparently the song All Hail The Queen from the album Slacht is also dedicated to Starcraft.

I normally don't like this kind of music that much, but it was quite catchy, and I love the subject matter!

More of a melodic metal, symphonic metal guy personally, but I can enjoy leaving my preferred genres

Believing that that had anything to do with Gothenburg metal just shows how uninformed and wrong you are.

Haha. Next you're going to be telling me that it sounds nothing like early At The Gates, which, is the only true Gothenburg band. Genres develop.

This is just typical (from my 1 minute listen) heavily gay modern Gothenburg. Maybe they developed into a less gay style after my short listening span forced me to close the window.

EDIT:

I wouldn't want to not provide factual wikipedia evidence:

Deleted Avatar wikipedia article

Avatar is a melodic death metal band from Sweden, founded in 2001.

More interesting is that they're actually from Gothenburg.

Wikipedia on Melodic Death:

Melodic death metal (also referred to as melodeath) is a subgenre of death metal which combines the melody of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM) with the intensity of death metal. The genre is also known as Gothenburg metal, a reference to the city in Sweden where it originated. Originally the genre combined the harmony style and groove melodies of heavy metal with the harsh thrashing sound and vocals of death metal. Later the genre evolved due to many different influences, a notable evolution in the genre being the addition of keyboards. Melodic death metal contains more melodic guitar riffs, melodic solos, and acoustic guitar work than traditional death metal.

EDIT #2:

I realize you might not understand my point. Let me clarify:

1.) Avatar is a melodic death metal band
2.) Melodic death is also referred to as Gothenburg.

By the common sense axiom, it holds that Avatar is Gothenburg.

You're silly. They are from Gothenburg and have obvious influences from In Flames and Dark Tranquility. I hear alot of Children of Bodom (Finland) in the last song posted too

Altho i dont like Hammerfall that much i cant understand why everyone(well mostly Swedes) keep picking on them, they do thier thing nothing more to it. Guess it's considerd "cool" to dislike them or something. Sure mabey its more like metal for the "general" population but i respect them anyway.

Haha, Johannes did it again. As somebody already mentioned they have written more songs about Starcraft, or maybe more accurate, Zerg.
I mentioned it in the metal threads like a year ago but nobody really seemed to care.
Oh well. Really talented guys anyway. Everybody that says something else doesn’t know what they are talking about. They technique is ridicules. Especially Jons drums. Insane. But if you like it or not, that is a matter of taste I guess. But they are damn good musicians. Horrible at starcraft thou They are in the noob state where you think carriers are imba and massing hydra is the only good zerg tac. haha
