And the way they are doing it seems really good. Gaining bonus for playing with friends ? Good. Bonus if I play everyday ? Good. Don't you guy have any idea the succes daily quests have in WoW ? Or even the succes of the " Win of the Day" in LoL ? The way the game is right now, with nothing but your own will to motivate you to play IS NOT WORKING. No... TL.net used to be elitist, now it's packed with noobs and casuals. A good thing in my eyes.

My main complaint is the ladder. I am a big boy, just show me where I rank across the entire silver ladder. What is the purpose of the 100 person group? I know they made some changes to better reflect where you are relative to promotion, but that has a limit in given 100 person groups. If I know I am ranked 24,637 out of 54,382 current season silver players, that gives me more incentive than rank 24 of an arbitrary set of 100 players.

Cause I sure would downvote you for this post here on TL, if I had an option to... The idea itself isn't "bad". It just isn't good. How does this fix, or even effect in the slightest the issues that the community has been raising with the game's poor support of the casual player? Blizz likes to make quick meaningless changes to the game that get people excited for a short time, then it just dies off very quickly. They're avoiding the major issue at hand completely. Now you tell me why it's such a glorious idea that will change the popularity and overall fun-ness of the game in a long term way? How does this effect anyone besides the competitive player?

They made Warcraft, pretty-much the origin of experience in RTS games, as I see it they should of implemented this from the start of WoL, no-one would have moaned then.

Well: portraits or decalls is all you gonna get from this, besides the xp itself wich seem even less apealing as a reward then the portraits. you wont get annything you can use in a game of sc. Xp is not enough to keep casuals interested annyway i think. "Still not free to play. This is just another reason for people that dont like the game to play it for no reason." Also:THIS so much.

OT: Not a bad move, it can be a really strong incentive for a lot of people who wasn't good at the game to continue playing. Like even if you don't get a promotion, you still earn XP and portraits, decals...love it. I like the idea myself even tho i'm not so much a casual but it makes me feel like i'm accomplishing something which can makes me try harder. Self satisfaction can be what lots of people need to ladder. Keeps the ladder anxiety quiet and let you enjoy the game even if you lose 3 out of 5 games.

Blizzard seems to be rolling out several features for HOTS, and some more will probably be revealed. My main complaint is the ladder. What's more motivating for casuals: to outdo ~100 people or thousands? Now you know why Blizzard do this.

You gain rewards exactly the same way as you did before, by winning. So currently, yes it's stupid and I don't see how it encourages people to stay active in the ladder. Pretty much this. I mean for LoL, you are at least getting those extra mastery points and unlocking rune slots and the like. And then it turns out Tier 3 runes are very expensive, so you need to play some more to get the better runes. (Which in turn is as choice between buying more heroes or upgrading your Rune page.) So that works for MOBA games, not so much for RTS. Here, it's really just re-arranging the same deck of cards (the portrait system.) It could probably be built upon, but for now... So, whatever. It's a change that I don't much care about, but not something to get up in arms about.

And I can almost guarantee that this took comparatively little development time and is not going to interfere heavily with changes which should make the hardcore players who are already motivated happy.

![]() Still waiting for new meaningful features that were listed above: Multiplayer resume from replay Global Play Multilanguage support Clan/group system Unranked matchmaking Multiplayer replay viewing Until those are implemented, I can't say I'm impressed or excited. Let's hope this will bring some casuals playing more consistently, even though I feel they will stop playing once they have reached max level.
