Terrible idea I played games wich had xp in them before and what i loved about sc that it had absolutely no xp. It makes no sense at all to give xp for it. Sc isnt a grindfest to get vitrual titles and rewards, its a real game. That they now feel the need to go down this road is a sign that sc as a game is dying and less and less people are playing it.
Edit:i am a complete noob. Not even diamond, only play teamgames. Still dont like this i play because i like the game, i dont play to kill time and grind rewards I guess i can just ignore it, it wont hurt me either.

People on TL might think it's a bad idea because we're all elitist and shit, but it's actually something every succesfull game has been doing recently.
And the way they are doing it seems really good. Gaining bonus for playing with friends ? Good. Bonus if I play everyday ? Good. Don't you guy have any idea the succes daily quests have in WoW ? Or even the succes of the " Win of the Day" in LoL ?
The way the game is right now, with nothing but your own will to motivate you to play IS NOT WORKING.

I like it actually. I mean it is a rip off but who cares.

"LoL is very successful atm, let's pick some of their features and implement them into HotS !"
That's how I see it.

Very cool, it'll give casual players incentive to play more, while at the same time not giving in-game advantages. I fully approve, a very nice system that only aims to encourage people to play for reasons that don't alter the game-play experience to make it easier (unlike a few games I could mention).
Very nice, Blizz, keep up the good work!
EDIT: Some people are complaining that this is a gimmick feature that is only being implemented because "SC2 is dying" etc. I ask you to remember that WC3 also had a leveling system that rewarded portraits, and that gave me (started casual, moved to competitive in 2008 for a while) reason to play more. This doesn't affect that SC2 is a skill based game, and those who play well will continue to do so regardless of what portraits you have.

Remember that Blizzard is still adding these features with HoTS:
Multiplayer resume from replay Global Play Multilanguage support Clan/group system Unranked matchmaking Multiplayer replay viewing

Didn't WC3 have something like this too?

The community will die if you don't try to bring in new people into the game. Blizzard has to do both.

I think it's a good idea, but currently it's useless. There is no difference with the previous system except that you get a new shiny xp bar. You gain rewards exactly the same way as you did before, by winning. So currently, yes it's stupid and I don't see how it encourages people to stay active in the ladder.

Yes, everyone who says it's a LoL ripoff is an uninformed whiner.

I don't know how some people say this CAN be a bad idea...?
It's good to motivate people to play, if you think that because most mainstream games have it that it somehow makes SC2 stupid then I dunno what to say..
All in all it's just a more elaborate way of giving out rewards. WoL has wins as a "levelling system", HotS will have XP.
|
This is designed to attract casuals and those that don't play purely for the competition. Can't say I have a problem with it at all so long as it doesn't give you advantages in game.
|
Well this is nothing new for Blizzard games, WC3 had levels too. This seems better though. It will probably help some people to keep the game fun, but most of all i hope the custom games can be created named in HotS.

i wouldnt be surprised if majority of them becomes "coming soon" after hots release. like patch 1.5

Personally, I don't care for XP points for portrait or something (as long as the player with more XP isn't getting any ingame advantage), but it does give a motivation for lower end players to continue playing and eventually get better. While I like the idea of the system, Blizzard need to think on more rewards for players to just keep playing, portraits aren't enough.

it's an extravagance to be certain but... looks so fkn sick lol, I'm totally falling into the trap on this one
|
i really dont care about xp, but i´m glad that blizzard is somehow listening.
|
A good litle addition, i see no reason why people are bitching and moaning over it, there's nothing bad about it.
I stopped playing diablo3 shortly after i hit max level and cleared inferno as i saw no more reason to grind for better gear as i cleared everything, now with added Paragon levels i'm back playing again having fun, the game hasn't really changed but now theres 100 more levels to progress in, so my main reason to play is not just farming anymore its to get to level 100 while gaining new gear

What is with all the negativity? Why is everything a bad thing? What we need is something to keep casuals interested. Blizzard knows this (for awhile now apparently) and is taking steps to address it. THIS IS GOOD FOR THE GAME. All you negative nancys need to chill the fuck out.

In a game like SC you can't really reward anything more than portrait or something that boost your ego on interface.
