The next big patch in HOTS will add leveling to the game. This was already rumored as some recent screenshots showed numbers next to player names.
Getting into the game and playing as much as possible will earn you XP and rewards. Build up powerful armies, wreak havoc on the map, fight to the bitter end, and you’ll be rewarded for your efforts! There will also be ways to earn bonus experience points for a match. We’re already working on concepts like “bonus XP for your first win of the day” and “extra XP when you play in a party with a Battletag or Real-ID friend”. We’re considering “bonus XP weekends” and other sorts of activities, which will be tested in the beta.
Each level you earn awards either a decal or a portrait for the race that you’re playing. These rewards get more and more epic as you progress in a race. The rewards will be different for each race, so truly dedicated players can push themselves to great heights for each of the three races.

Will this be enough to maintain interest for casuals like myself?

Look like Call Of Duty ^_^

At least Blizzard is trying to take an initiative and come with interesting ideas. Not sure how I feel about it yet but can't wait to try it soon.

This isn't call of duty. I don't need XP bullshit. Just give what we have been asking for for two years.
|
I guessed this might be the case in the UI thread. I hope levels mean something, similar to the way they did in pre 1.14 WC3 vice the system they had after that.

This is good, this is another good thing for casuals. Thanks Blizzard.

why can't they just implement one ladder? 0__0
being a higher 'level' doesnt mean shit in sc cause theres no such thing as perks or skills or special abilities. The beauty of the game is both players have the same units and controls (race taken into account ofc), but the smarter / faster player wins.

You can bitch about stuff like this all you want, but it's undeniably good for the casual scene. Good show, Blizz.

So what are the rewards, other than fancy icons? People don't play for the XP, they play for the rewards that come with the XP. And if the rewards suck, then the whole system is kinda pointless.

Where is the virtual toilet feature?

Even though I'm not that excited for this change, it is still a good thing. This will give low level players a reason to play.

Guess this is a replacement for the "Woot I won 1,000 games!" portraits with more of a tuned experience bar with custom scaling and bonuses.
It presumably would do away with "Only 25 more wins until I get this sick awesome Tassadar portrait" and replace it with "I'm gonna do a lot of laddering this weekend, for that 50% bonus!" I think it can be an improvement with good implementation (Neither too easy nor too hard to get to the next portrait, neither too easy nor too hard to get all of them for a race.)

I hope they add more things in this leveling system and synergy between them and clans like WC3. Also, I would really really like for divisions and spots within divisions (like top 25 or something) to mean more and offer their own rewards.

I think it's a bad idea but maybe casual players will be happy.

Nice addition, I don't care about this stuff myself but I know that casual players love to farm portraits and get some form of progression without 1v1 ladder. This only brings good things to those who want it without taking anything away from those who don't want it. Very nice

This is basically the same way you get decals and portraits now.
But rejigged to work with an XP level up system than just on win count.
*shrug*

Exactly, but this isn't Call of Duty-esque at all. Unless you think any system that gives you experience is like Call of Duty. This will only give you decals and skins, not weapons or armor or unlocks.
People declare that we need ways to keep casuals playing like LoL and Dota2, and they specifically mention the leveling system. Then Blizzard shows that they've been working on such a thing for months, and that it wasn't actually the community's idea to implement such a system, and now people don't like it.
I swear guys. Take the good for the good and be happy? Please? This at least shows they're looking at LoL and Dota2 and taking what they see works and can use with SC2. They're trying, so be happy with that.
