As dumb as it sounds destiny has some insight info (http://www.reddit.com/r/Destiny/comments/122kop/whats_been_going_on_an_update/) and thinks blizzard will not change the game's core
Maybe that's why we only see bullshit patches and nothing more even if it is needed now of all times.

SC2 still is a very cool game, but this xp thing will not accomplish anything

If they would add army skins as well as portraits I would be all over this like a hobo on a ham sandwich.

Exactly. A loss isn't as crushing since you're still that much closer to getting your next level. I feel it'll help more people hit that queue button. Nice work Blizz.

Yeah the concept of rewarding losses is fine. The older generations of gamers think its pathetic, but their opinions no longer matter anyway lol. People want to feel like they never ever lose. Thats fine...

however...

Sc2 xp doesnt give you anything worth a damn! lol

I can lose 50 games in a row on LoL, but if i level up at least i get a mastery point that directly affects my character. Its the smallest thing in the world, like increase damage dealt by 1%, but it isnt completely meaningless.

Some guy said let sc2 xp level paragon xp in d3 lol. As ridiculous as this sounds, id take it!! Leveling that shit takes a long tiem and its just a pure grind, so it will get boring after a while until i feel like playing it again. However, if i can play sc2, a different game, and level paragon at the same time, ill never get bored! Who gives a shit, they are both blizzard games, as long as you are on one of them they dont care lol.

Wow. Didnt know you spoke for an entire generation of gamers! Please tell me what I think some more. I'd love to hear it! Saves me the time and I can think of other things!

sad truth is blizzard only cares about profit instead of actually making a good game, so any complaints are useless anyway.

Yeah you are pretty much right when it comes to that yes. Will take ages before Blizzard does anything in value for us. Or casual gamers. Like when LoL had problems with latency the insta made Lan Latency on their servers. When does Blizzard ever do such for us?

Yeah I agree. With all the "SC2 is dying!" threads, this is a good attempt at a solution.

Blizzard is reacting to the outcry of SC2 dying (with Dota and LoL taking over) by trying to implement more casual friendly solutions.

Also funny that someone mentioned WC3... I forgot that there was leveling in WC3 too (though it reset every ladder and didn't really do anything since AMM was calculated by win/lose ratio rather than levels).

I'm not sure if this will help though. Like I said earlier in the SC2 is dying threads, SC2 has to be more fun to casuals.

The reason why LoL or Dota is more popular is because it's more fun and easier to get into.

People play WC3 Dota on battle.net all the time (with no rewards, they played the game just for fun.... I know, crazy concept isn't it? Playing a game just for fun >.>).

SC2 needs to be revamped to be more fun for casuals to play somehow.

WC3 is arguably a more "casual focused" game (4v4s were actually fun and somewhat balanced due to the hero system and how it wasn't a race to build the biggest deathball or cannon rush like in SC2 4v4s) but yet it failed and lagged behind Dota (which more people played than WC3 itself).

Wow. Didnt know you spoke for an entire generation of gamers! Please tell me what I think some more. I'd love to hear it! Saves me the time and I can think of other things!

I agree. Actually back in the old days, people played for fun and that was kind of it. I seldom remember playing BW competitively that much (in fact, I remember just 4v4s or top vs bottom or BGH or tower defense games).

At least with me and my friends, the concept of hardcore RTS gaming didn't really exist back then (same with most people actually, if you look at old VODs for the first Korean BW games, people barely microed at all and had like 30 APM at most >.>).
______________
Anyway, let me elaborate more on what I mean about SC2 still needing much if wants to compete with other games on the market (Dota and LoL specifically):

I'd rather play Dota 2 right now over most games because:

1. The game is actually fun to play (more so than most team based online games). The nerd rage and massive QQ is a turn off at times but ehh. I laugh when I bust out Shadowblade on BH and 90% people do not realize that it is actually a pro item (people go "lulz, shadowblade on BH? Really?" <- <insert other annoying sarcastic smarty pants internet tough guy attitude that makes Dota not fun at times>).

2. I want more cosmetic items (you randomly find items after each match) <- Important part.

3. The game is popular therefore the need to show off said items increases in value. Since millions of players will likely play Dota 2 once it's released, then therefore my item showing off skills will increase.

In SC2, I do admit I like playing my friend's account (who has both SC2 and D3 collector's editions while mine doesn't). I like to show off that CE Thor and D3 decals. Besides that though, I don't think SC2 has as much "item showing off potential" as Dota does.

(Can't wait for the new people joining in to drool over that common Eul's Staff of Divinity on my Crystal Maiden once the game gets fully released!)

Anyway, personally I'd play SC2 only to show off how gosu my SC2 skills are. For people that can't show off their gosu SC2 skills, well they don't have fun. (Honestly, if I were playing SC2 for fun, I wouldn't most of the time. I'd play my custom 4v4 against comps "occasionally" but then I'd play mostly Dota instead.)

SC2 isn't really that "appealing" or "fun" of a game overall compared to Dota. In SC2, most people that play try to play because they want to show off their gosu skills.

In Dota, you can just get into the game and have fun.

Slight Dota rant:+ Show Spoiler +

Though a lot of the times, I feel like I'm not having that much fun in Dota because it has somehow turned into an MMO where there are heroes that do the same thing every game. The support, the carry, the initiator. Plus there's not that many ways to differentiate from other players in terms of actual skills.

True Story - Even pro gamers like Dendi have less than a 60% win rate solo queuing in pubs. In SC2, you can differentiate yourselves from others easily since you have more control of the game and there is more you can do in the game to win or lose. There are players on the ladder with 90% win rates easy in SC2 while in Dota, no one (not even Chinese pro gamers [which are the Koreans of Dota], not even Dendi has more than a 60% win rate solo queuing).

Good change. Don't like it? Oh well, the experience is the same for you, just keep playing games since you don't need motivation. I don't need it, either! But it's always nice to have little achievements and portraits and things, that's one thing that kept me hooked on WoW for so long. There were always new challenges/rewards.

Pretty cool changes. As an older gamer I like this (as, especially next year, I will not have much time to game). I fancy it will help with some of the casual crowd too - along with the other changes in the works for HoTS. Blizzard have clearly been quietly working on this for a while. Kudos to them.

I see, however, the usual break out of whine and qq because its not enough, its too late, its not what you want, it won't "save the game" (yawn) etc. The same old crap ad infinitum ad nauseaum. Bunch of muppets.

Some of you really need to get the fuck over yourselves.

Blizzard tries to do something special for the casual and hardcore fans alike.

Everyone hates it for no fucking good reason at all and there's a shit-storm.

This is the reason LoL is overpowering SC2 so badly, because the SC2 community is a bunch of whining babies. Sadly.

The latest community debate has been particularly disorganized, but I'll try to explain our view
this new feature is frowned upon because most of us (including destiny I believe) think that the problem lies elsewhere
no casual player wants to play a 15 minutes hard, unforgivable game just to earn XP
ladder is not what made broodwar and warcraft 3 popular so why this change?

That's fine but irrelevant. Nobody played BW ladder because it was full of maphackers, exploiters, disconnectors, and wintraders, and it ran at a different speed than everyone was used to. To get a high rating in BW meant absolutely nothing because anyone could do it. So instead BW was popular for its public games and UMS, and watching replays together. If the BW ladder were more emphasized and well-regulated then it absolutely would have been popular. War3 had ladder as the core game mode and I completely disagree that that's not why War3 was popular because automatic matchmaking was a welcome change from BW. War3 was also popular for its custom games and unlockable portraits, along with automated tournaments.

I fail to see what this addition has to do with any of that.

I guess he was eager to see more game oriented improvements instead of window dressing. Sure this will be good imo, but what needs focus is the game. Then the lackluster client.

I don't know how I'll be affected, but the fact that I'm getting something tangible from a long loss might be a better motivation. Otherwise, defeat is too crushing. It's like a tiny cookie for showing up. I don't think I'm too good for that.

I ignore the CoD system for the most part, but it feels less bad when I get tooled by a vocal North-Eastern US player when I happen to level up. Helps me forget and move on faster.

sorry to insist but all in all, ladder is not what made broodwar and warcraft 3 popular
you explained very well why that is true for broodwar, and for warcraft 3 to be honest I don't know anyone who would say "yes I used to be top1500 in europe in war3" rather than "yeah I was in a clan"/"I used to play it with friends", even the ones who had their share of skill
see my point?

what's more, there is already an unranked ladder that will attract people who don't want to play the game competitively
There is so much that could be improved, it is a little bit frustrating
