You can't really make skins that are too different from the base skin though. Players should be able to recognize instantly which type of unit they face and with all kinds of whacky skins, this may no longer be the case. For the integrity of the competitive aspect, the looks of the game should be as constant as possible. Of course, an option for a player to show their opponents units in their default skin regardless of the opponents preferences would help, but that kind of defeats the purpose of skins as a bragging tool.

Well the Skins don't have to be radical. For example, the Mercenary Skins for Terran. And for Zerg, how about spotted Ultralisks ^_^. Also they can have an option to disable Skins. <---- Underplay this addition of course. EDIT: Voice Packs. Ingame Unit Portraits. This would make me swithc races in a second http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=220561

SC2 needs this. More casual appeal, doesn't affect the game itself. Thumbs up.

I think there should be more rewards like special unit skins and sounds instead of just 'out of the game' rewards such as portraits. They already have the infrastructure for this, just look at the collector edition Thors. Decals should also be more visible and appear more often in the actual game.

Guess people won't be able to worker rush to farm portraits anymore As far as worker rushes will give some exp, even if just about 1/30 of the normal ammount... they will do it anyway. And I suppose it's a good change.. maybe. Tbh I don't really care, but if casuals prefer exp bar to X/1000 wins bar, it's fine. I just think that's not really enough to get their attention for more than a few weeks at best.

Any subtle things just to make your units and buildings seem more personalized to you. Who wouldn't want a pumped out Command Center or Barracks? Put some ruggedness to it.. add some character.. but it's still totally recognizable. And leave an option to enable or disable them so players aren't forced to see it while laddering.

From what I see on these boards "most of us" have differing opinions on where "the problem" lies. Just because a bunch of people yell "fix this!" does not mean that Blizzard should fix it, that it will indeed fix "the problem" or, for that matter, anything at all. As for Destiny, I could not give a damn what a mediocre nonentity like him thinks about SC2 (or anything else). As for what the casual player wants, I think you assume too much. Next year, apart from working full time, I will also be studying part time at University (supplementing my existing qualifications) in order to improve my career prospects. I had, pretty much, committed to giving up on HoTS (indeed most gaming) as I would not have the time to play. This is especially because, as we know, SC2 requires commitment to get better or even stay where you are. I had no desire to play 3 - 5 games every week or two to find my mechanics (such as they are) gradually deteriorate and my ladder rank slowly slip. Something like this, however, gives me an incentive to log in when I can, play a few games, get something tangible for my efforts and stay in touch with the game and the scene (hopefully through an improved UI, and of course TL). I don't think I'd want to play on unranked ladder, at least not regularly, because I fear the quality of those games would be poor (like the pre-placement games in WOL). I still want to play on ladder. I still want to be tested. I still want to compete. I still want to stay in touch with the Meta. I still want to read TL and understand what is going on. A little thing like this (with hopefully more to come) gives players like myself an incentive to keep playing, to keep enjoying the game, and to continue our participation in Starcraft. I hope that made sense to you, and gives you a reason why you should not knock this improvement.

One possibility would be to add a new game mode that sits alongside the current batch (1v1, 2v2, 3v3, 4v4, FFA) in which players could gain real benefits for being higher level. They could unlock new units, upgrades, skins, etc. that only function in that game mode. This game mode could be anything that’s suitably casual, like 2v2v2v2 BGH, or just something that’s perceived to be less stressful than typical ladder games. Since people don’t like the idea of re-skinning units in ladder 1v1s, why not simply only allow unit skinning in unranked games? I understand that another solution would be to give people the option to turn off “Display reward skins,” but I think that might diminish the reward because people are going to want to show off their earned skins. By keeping the ranked ladder free of non-default skins but allowing people to use whatever they like in unranked games, you can have a situation where people can show off their custom skins if they want, but allow people who don’t want to be bothered by that extraneous stuff a place to play without those distractions. Of course this would mean that Blizzard would have to separate unranked and ranked players from playing each other, which as I understand it isn’t the case right now in the beta.

But, the idea of this level system is wayy better, I remember when I played Warcraft 3 and the reward system didn't really get me in to it easily. Old Blizzard system play a lot and when you reach X mark you get "this". Upcoming system if it does succeed it will give joy after every game which is good for casuals, I see this as a one step Blizzard is making to look it "good" for casuals. I'm not casual for hint. :I

LOL In all reality though, I dont know how much this leveling thing will do people are going to cap out and/or get bored of higher level caps being added Personally, I think the skin idea would be cool Sure, units are going to look different, but would you really confuse units? I feel like every unit has a distinct size and movement that makes them easily distinguishable. It would also be cool if you could unlock/purchase/somehow obtain different colors for in game, different voice packs, stuff of the aesthetic nature (maybe even in game name colors! :p)

Being a greatest game does not mean it is the most popular games because great game play is only one of the many components that make games popular. It's okay for me that SC2 isn't as popular as CoD, LoL and Dota, as long as it is a good game. On October 26 2012 07:22 BoxingKangaroo wrote: Cool your fanboyism. CoD might not be your thing, but it's one of the most successful franchises ever. Far from a shitty product. Britney Spears has also sold tons of CDs, much more than bands like Tame Impala. Must be a good product. On October 26 2012 07:28 Doodsmack wrote: Lol all these new threads have been a haven for the SC2 haters/BW elitists. They just love to tell us how much they hate the game.
