Good to see Blizz active, but in post-Density-saying-SC2-is-dying world, is this what counts as Blizz being responsive to their fans/customers? I'm skeptical....
No this is not Blizz responding to Destiny's rant. The work it would take to implement this kind of feature would have taken much longer than since Destiny wrote his post. They have been working on this for a while obviously. There are still a ton of other great features coming to HotS too. I personally think that this is a great addition and can't wait to try it out in HotS. The only things that I'm really hoping get implemented along side this are an update to the arcade interface to make it more usable and a better map pool. They've been gradually improving the map pool over the last year or so but I don't understand why they still haven't enlisted the help of pro mapmakers in the scene. Oh and also LAN, but we all know that's a pipedream.

I see a lot of people complaining that Blizzard needs to be doing more. First of all, don't act so entitled, second of all here's a list of the other things Blizzard have already announced for Heart of the Swarm (and there may be more).

Games can last about 20-40 mins, and at the end its a binary win or lose. It can make losing after trying hard extremely frustrating. At least with the xp system you get something for playing rather than winning.

For a second I honestly thought blizzard would go as far as add leveling on units in game, so glad it's just extra casual bullshit like achievements.

Implement all the promised features in the sneak preview (replay resume, clan support, better chat channels) and come out with a flurry of balance updates. That would bring the hype back and break the back of the #SaveHOTS horse.
Yeah I think this is a big one w.r.t. the game being more social, and there are 3 relatively easy fixes here:
-Require everyone to be in at least one chat channel (makes bnet feel less dead) -Password protected channels (helps teams and clans) -Mods for channels

So this is for titles and portraits? Not interested. This does not count as "working towards something". Another fail by blizzard, no one will care about this shit.
Leveling up in diablo 3 gives you stat points and magic find bonuses, and gear upgrade potential. It effects the game itself.
Leveling up in WoW gives you stat points, gear upgrade potential. It effects the game itself.
XP Points in Tribes Ascend allows you to buy new weapons on your account, or different armor load outs. It effects the game itself.
Leveling up in LoL gives you mastery points and runes, both of which effects the game itself.
Leveling up in Sc2 gives you....a portrait that does not effect the game itself, nor does it make the player feel like they are improving something in the game, and there is no real motivation to get a meaningless portrait.

There's just so many other things that they should focus on first.

they need to work a fuckton on the actual UI

This is perfect, excellent idea from Blizzard. This also will encourage less cheese since you get more points for longer games.

No it wont. XP isnt worth anything useful, so people dont have a reason to care. Who values a meaningless XP bar over actually winning a game? Thats all people want to do is win games.
The root of the problem with a lot of people getting discouraged from playing is that they cant accept the fact that they wont win every game, and they only have themself to blame for every loss.
Sc2 needs this and that, and only blizzard can change the shit everyone is asking for..but if people really want something to change for the better of the game and the community, they can start by changing their attitudes. Dont play a competitive game if you dont like competition, if you dont like losing, and if you dont like someone being better than you.

Seems awesome! I play pretty competitively but these are the kind of useless rewards I like to go for as well
Hope they make it fun!

Look at the games people care about right now. Now look at the ones where you can level up. Do they all offer something that effects the game? Please let me know if one of them doesnt. Leveling doesnt belong in a game where it wont give the player any benefits.

Exactly. A loss isn't as crushing since you're still that much closer to getting your next level. I feel it'll help more people hit that queue button. Nice work Blizz.
