Or maybe a terran goes hellions to kill mass lings instead of marauders to snipe buildings. You guys are ok with this? You or your opponent doing dumb shit to farm points? The point is you'll never know if it's on purpose, it will just be in the back of your mind, like maybe you would have lost if he wasn't playing for exp. Or if I lose my third to a protoss timing attack, maybe I just leave the game instead of trying to hold off his next wave just to screw him out of points.
I'm sure only bronze league wouldn't care about ladder points in the first place. Plus, you can also get XP by playing Blizz's custom map so it would not effect the ladder as most care about their points. Like why would they risk of losing their precious points when you can play customs that have no effect on your ladder rank?
Edit: Another reason for playing custom instead of ladder to get point. The players ( or invited friend ) can chat with each other before the game starts so they can boost their stats.

No they didn't invent it, they pioneered it for non rpg games but they certainly weren't the first to use it outside of rpgs.

I like this change. This should provide more incentives for casual players to ladder and play with friends. If you could unlock new unit skins or other in game cosmetics by leveling up (visible to others only if they chose to make cosmetics of others visible, but always visible to yourself), it would do much more to provide incentives for casual players to play, though.

This is really good move by Blizzard.
They need to do more stuff like this to bring in more casual.

The only group that is better is the group of kids that think Blizzard did this in response to #SaveHotS. Because clearly this feature was created and added in 2 weeks time.

Sigh. People get their pixelated penises, still complain. "More people playing isn't enough, they need to play to win!!"
For what it's worth, they mention xp bonuses for wins etc. There'll always be farmers, but that's not what this is about.

Will everyone stop fucking complaining seriously.. im high masters. I think its cool that they are doing this kind of stuff. No shit its not about perks or levels make you better. The same thing with league, it doesn't make you any better when you level up in league, your skill stays the same, people play for gold or points or whatever. To get skins and new champions. In this case people play for portraits or random cool little things that keep people interested! With out the casual scene there is no pro scene. Pro's dont watch them selves. And you guys need to chill out, "this is stupid just give us what we have been waiting for, for 2 years" well wtf? Have they not released interviews where they are adding clan support. Aren't they are adding multi-person replays. They are adding an unranked ladder based on MMR. Ohh wait, the unranked ladder that we have been waiting for since day one is already in heart of the swarm.. They are trying, they dont have the best DEV team. At least they are showing interest in taking community opinions. Name another BIG company that is 20 years old that listens to the community? Ohh wait there is not. Be grateful you have someone that actually cares about their games.
|
Can anyone explain, does this mean a different MMR and ladder ranking for each race? If not, what does it actually mean?
|
I'm happy with this, and it blows my mind that some people aren't happy about this. There's literally no downside to this.

I really like this idea. It has much potential.

Well just for the sake of argument, maybe for the first season nobody will care about ladder points. Farm exp, get to level 20, and you're set, it doesn't say anything about losing exp for any reason. You can fix your ladder rank after that, or next season after the reset.
Edit: I see where it talks about customs now.

I don't really see why people are excited. Its basically the same thing we have now, with a different system used. Its still about the 1v1, its still about ladder, and as a casual player does nothing for me. Fix custom games, and make it so I don't have to deal with constant player drops (either myself or others, and then everyone leaving because of it). Give me some people to talk too, something. Its a ladder feature, and I don't play ladder. :/

This is a really neat idea, I think it has a lot of potential. I know a lot of people enjoy farming portraits/decals. + Show Spoiler +On October 26 2012 03:41 Tuczniak wrote:Seems like good idea. It should attract players more. Today I want to get 500xp Would be nice, if 1v1 was the best way to xp. Because it's the hardest to get to and continue due to ladder anxiety and similar things. ^ Maybe this will get casuals/and none casuals to want to 1v1 more, if you get most xp, and maybe by playing they get better and start to 1v1 more. Also they should add in game tournaments, just like WC3 and have special tournament portraits. Obviously the tourney would match you with people around your mmr. Have the tournaments be broadcasted in client(like dota2/LoL) so people can watch while they eat/take a break, since so many people join 1v1 obs games to just watch, and a mini tournament would be a lot more exciting :D With the tourney, once in a while(maybe set a day/time?) Blizzard can test out 'new' maps they plan to implement in the ladder(1v1,2v2,ffa etc) and after game players can give a review

Sorry if it upsets you that I want my opponents to be trying to win the game and not have ulterior motives. Seems to make a lot of sense and I think people would agree for the most part. Or are you flaming just to flame?
I said before I like the idea. But they can give us exp and levels without attaching it to in game actions.
