This. I failed ~20 times on the air version before re-loading and doing the 'remove air' mission so I could do the Nydus version, which was comparably a cake walk. As others have said: banshees, tanks and marines. Banshees to mop the worms up, tanks to kill everything, stimmed marines to rip Kerrigan apart through her hardened shield thing.

The Nydus version is SOOO hard for me. I can't even beat it on HARD. The Nydus worms swarm you SO fast EVEN IF you pre-position vikings to kill it because they're spread in all directions.
I've tried it all -> mass bio, mass tanks, walling off the hill with CC/PF (1500hp) and Starports(1250hp). I'm desperate for the explosion cool down every time. I wrestled like 6 hours on it.
Seriously, beating the air version on Brutal is like playing on EASY. It's amazing far apart they are from each other.
are you using banshees to kill the worms as soon as they pop up? You won't be able to kill every worm immediately when it pops, but quickly killing the worms with banshees is the difference between the mission being very easy and almost impossible.
Air on Hard and Nydus on Brutal was about equally difficult for me. I suppose Air is easier if you have the mind-control thingie, but really, 5 PFs, 2 Psi-Dist, ~7 healSCV ~30 tanks, ~12 banshees, 1 Vessel and ~30 rines+a few medics and there's nothing the zerg can do against you in the Nydus stage.
I made 4 BC and 4 Thors and rest was Tanks only with bunk wall and this psi thing for slow down. 3-4 tanks spreaded in the base with 2 psi things spreaded and then just relax^^ sometimes I used 2 cloaked banshees (this mercenaries "dusk wing" or something) to kill the nydusworms and whenever kerrigan came i used the BC with yamamoto and the thors with stunner. worked really good for me. only time I lost some units was whenevery kerrigan came, but that was like 3 or 4 times. Anyway maybe I will make the campaign again, cause I had to play it offline and then I can make the air version.
Did you have the reduced friendly fire upgrade? When I tried to use tanks all my stuff would blow up because i never got that upgrade.
If you set up your tanks properly, they won't even get close.
I completed this on Brutal and honestly, once I figured this tank thing out you don't even have to use the artifact once, nor do you have to hunt down Nydus canals. Mass your tanks around the low-ground just to the right of the artifact and with 30ish tanks, you're golden.
I was lucky enough to have psi-disruptors and perdition turrets, I built those all around the artifact and I'm quite sure I could have afk'd the rest of the mission. I didn't kill one Nydus (except those that spawned in tank range and instantly died) and units just don't make it to the tanks - there's too much firepower. One of my tanks had over 560 kills, it's quite a blood bath.
Air is easier if you spam Mind control tower with a fewThors (rape muta and perma stun Kerrigan), control every broolord that come into range, make sure your bunker/turrets are behind the MC towers. Kerrigan will stop and fight broodlings, easy win :D

Tanks would get rape faced by Kerrigan since her resistance reduces all attacks to 3. Weak rapid fires (infantry) own her and tanks never kill her.
Also they bust their own wall-offs, even with 75% friendly-fire reduction.
Her AOE also rape tanks since they're sieged and even if not, they're trapped and nowhere to go. In air level, your fliers can just move away since they don't even clip to each other.
Here's the easiest tactic I've seen and used to beat this mission on Hard without using the artifact:
You will want to place the bunkers and the perdition towers at the same spots as shown on that video.
i played both and air is much harder than nydus with nydus you just make a few banshees and run around killing the nydus air has that big boss that comes out and you have to keep watching for broodlords .. much harder
When I saw broodlords i immediately went for air lol. I think its important to get the mindcontrol. Cause I usually had 3 bunkers 4 seige tanks behind bunkers 1-2 thors on each side and a few battlecruisers to defend/yamato karrigen. I just mind control the ultras and roachs as meat shields and with a medivac ultras can last a while
Ground is super easy. 12 tanks at each side, 2 PF at each side, 5 SCVs (With boosted repair) at each side, 2 emitters at each side (the slowing ones). AFk till you win.
When you get bored just kill some nydus worms or a kerrigan.
i heard for the air lvl you can just mass the things that mind control zerg units and just mind control like 20 mutas and use them to kill kerrigan and shit. i beat it on hard with nydus and it was pretty tough.. i didnt have the upgrade for bunkers or tank so thats probably why.
