His record is only just behind Salah, Isak and Haaland over the last couple of years.
And still there's always a level of "aww didn't he do well" about how people talk about it.
The guy is an absolute beast. 34 years old and only getting better and better.
yeah pure goalscorers get so little respect

I'm late to this, but given that Arsenal have also gotten a red card for a touch near the halfway line with Ekitike being in on goal from that position, idk, seems like it would be a DOGSO, but we all know how consistent VAR and reffing is. Also the commentary used the language that VAR deemed it only a "possible" goal scoring opportunity instead of an "obvious" one so now that language has been added to the rule? That's gonna be a fun one to interpret for future DOGSOs lol. At minimum the slapping of the ball should've been a clear yellow but the touch was so miniscule that there's no way the ref would've seen it tbh so I can't fault him for not at least booking him.
VAR already in shambles with other games too. Gotta love how footie is back and VAR seemingly gets worse and worse.

VAR once again with a disastrous decision to award the handball on Tarkowski. No clue what they're doing, first weekend of footie and they've already fucked up like 4 major decisions.

Yeah. I try to be understanding on the reffing. It's a rough job, especially with the online culture being whatever it is. Some of the stuff is always going to be on the grey area and that's completely fine and some parts are really complex to interpret and that's fine too.
However, some of the stuff seems simple with VAR and the calls still vary wildly depending on the day and we are not getting any wiser on why or how these things are interpreted the way they do.

at this point i think they intentionally fuck decisions up just so they can stay relevant. what we actually need is ai to come in and take over the var department. ai couldnt possibly be worse

It wasn't even that controversial to me. The player has all day to react and his reaction is to block the ball with his arm because he can't get his body there in time. Just because his arm is by his side doesn't mean he hasn't deliberately used it to block the shot. He didn't have to move his entire body, including his arm, towards the ball, that was a choice.

I think 'all day' is pretty generous considering it even takes a deflection and he's got his hands behind his back to further make quick changes of direction hard.
However, if that's the way they call these, then so be it. Then we can clearly spell it out and follow the rule and everyone knows how things work and there's a clear basis for further discussion on if the rule should be adjusted. The last thing I want to see is a more obvious handball ignored next week based on another vague interpretation.

There was a more obvious one for Forest against Brentford that Var ignored this weekend. The guy was 15 yards away from a fre kick and stuck his arm right out but it wasn't given

Consistency is the big thing about refereeing. It's never consistent and thats why we are all pissed

Really starting to contend with 90s Rosenborg for greatest Norwegian team ever now, breaks my heart to admit it!

I love the edit on the title. 2024-2026, the longest football season ever.

Is he loads better than Foden, or underrated because he’s black?
He’s a joy to watch in full flight, I just hope he gets to fully showcase his gifts.
It would be a shame if he wasn’t fully utilised, it’s fun to watch him be the main man at Palace, and he probably would been so if he’d gone to Spurs.
Speaking of Spurs, my lord this isn’t proving too hot a window for them is it?

The Eze deal seems to suggest that Havertz is out for a longer period.

max dowman, ethan nwaneri, myles lewis-skelly - arsenal's youth is insane.

City are going to struggle for a bit. Pep's insistence on a small squad combined with the club world cup campaign means not enough rest and not enough backups.
Meanwhile de Bruyne scores for Napoli
