Kawhi and PG looked terribly out of sync on that last possession.

Although Kawhi scored a lot of "clutch" points for the Raptors in last years playoffs. He set a record for the most shots attempted in clutch situations in the playoffs in 2019.

This year Kawhi is shooting 37.5% in clutch situations ( point diff less than 5 with less than 5 left in the game)
https://stats.nba.com/players/clutch-traditional/?sort=FG_PCT&dir=-1&Season=2019-20&SeasonType=Regular Season&TeamID=1610612746

What you saw tonight was pretty typical of what happens when you let Kawhi play hero ball. Kawhi needs a team around him. He is not a top notch 1-man shot creator in the ilk of Bryant or Harden or Westbrook( in his prime.. not now ). That is probably why Kawhi blathered on and on and on last year about what a great "table setter" Lowry is.

Lakers-Raptors was much more along the lines of what I expected after return. Some teams are going to have off nights for sure.

OTOH, the Lebronosexuals are out in force again claiming his teammates aren't all that good. You know, other than perrinial all NBA player Anthony Davis, 2x Key component on a title team Danny Green, KCP who he personally got a new contract with the team, Kuzma who people were hyping as the next great scoring forward, and a Morris brother who has consistently performed well when put in good situations by playmakers. Sure, maybe he's the lesser Morris, but I actually finds his game quite useful in the modern NBA, if Lebron, AD, and Vogel tried harder to utilize it.

As a Dallas fan it's painfull to watch all our forwards failing constantly: finey-smith, hardaway, Jackson.

Also, i think all these social messages are silly. Whats the thing with "education reform" thats om the back of some players btw?

watching Heat//Celtics ...
I'd pay PPV rates to see Brock Lesnar and several other UFC heavyweights storm the court and hold down Olynyk and Hayward and shave that crap of their face. Shave their heads too. Olynyk needs that man-bun amputated.

the Raptors are an extremely physical team and their games cause lots of injuries for themselves and their opponents. The Raptors biggest issue will be staying healthy. Butler got hurt playing the Raptors yesterday.

The Raptors are a wrecking ball of a basketball team.

You can say the same thing about Nate Pearson's 100+ MPH fast ball. If he could ever throw 50 of those in a game he'd be the most popular baseball pitcher.

Of course The Athletic is hurting for cash, their business model makes no sense. They are aggregating all different kinds of content and paying high salaries. They have all these local beat writers, but it doesn't really make sense for someone who's a fan of the Warriors also to be paying into a pool that pays for a Mavs beat writer and a NY Yankees beat writer, etc. And also there are the "big picture writers." Also, even though they have some good writers like Shams and Amik, they don't have personalities that would drive people to the site.

I think the real model is a podcast/video/writing hybrid built around 3-5 lightning personalities like Barstool did. And what you do is you bring in cheap writers who supplement the big guys content. Even though the Ringer sold for a lot, they only did so based on a few very successful podcasts, their writing section still sucks because it doesn't supplement Bill, Russillo, Rubin, Concepcion, Ryan, and Fennessy. Instead they are just replaceable nobodies with the same take as an clickbait writer would have.

I know I'm not a big Lebatard fan, but it looks like he might leave ESPN at the end of his deal, I think he could team up with some other people like Bomani and some other like minded people and start what would basically be "Woke Barstool" and it would probably work, although the woke space is so flooded that it would not be as strong a play. Non-woke is where there are lots of market opportunities.

Agree with clutz that The Athletic's business doesn't make any sense. Although I tend to share the liberal beliefs of these writers on social issues more often than not, I also view them as completely clueless when it comes to money matters. I'm spending $50 on Sling TV for 2 months to watch the NBA. A year's subscription to The Athletic is more than that. Granted, I'm not the kind of hardcore sports fan they are looking for, but I find it unlikely that they would get enough subs to justify having so many well paid sportswriters.

They need enough people interested in multiple teams over multiple sports. Otherwise, who'd pay that much money to read articles covering so many different things? It's like they are selling the old cable bundle for a generation of cord cutters.

Ok, I'm double posting to talk more about basketball.

Memphis is lucky that the teams chasing them haven't gotten hot. Spurs have lost 2 close games in a row and the Pelicans have only won once. Otherwise, they might be in danger of not even making the play in game. Grizz are in danger of being caught by the Blazers but are still more likely to not get caught by more than one team.

Milwaukee's so far league leading defense is an interesting gamble in this age. They are selling out to defend the paint and have the league's top defense even though they give up the most 3s in the league. I know they are not going to face peak Warriors but it will be interesting if they can make an entire playoffs without any team getting hot from 3. It seems a danger in the later rounds of the playoffs against the top teams.

isn't that also what the Raptors do? They play way off the worst two 3 point shooters of the opposition and hope they miss their open opportunities.

You nailed it with the cable bundle analogy. I went to their website and the sheer volume of what they cover is insane. They have sections for all the major European football leagues! I think the people who watch La Liga and NASCAR has to be like 4 people.
