I don't think Leclerc did this on purpose of course. Potentially, that crash could cause gearbox damage which would net him a 5 grid position penalty anyways. Neither do I have an answer to how situations like these should be solved. But it is frustrating to watch as a viewer

2 extra minutes does nothing if the tires are inherently half a second slower.

They cannot go anywhere near the same pace on used softs. 2 extra minutes does nothing if the tires are inherently half a second slower. Would probably work on Monaco, where the laps are short and corners are slow. Even today, we saw most drivers take multiple laps consequently before going in, with Max being on his third lap (having aborted his first, and used the second to recharge his batteries) when he had to abort what would have been his fastest at the end there. On other tracks, no, I agree. It wouldn't really work unless you gave every driver an extra set of tires or something. It's just an inherent flaw with this type of qualifying. Shootout laps for the top 10 would fix this specific problem, but then introduce others (like track rubber, temperature, and weather being different between the drivers). The only real idea I'd have to fix this is to disqualify people who crash, or give them a few grid slot penalties. That way you can't crash yourself to victory at least.

At least Ferrari got a 2nd with their plan SEA but very understanding tho. Taking the risk for Leclerc was worth it but it didnt worked out

So annoying. Wolf would 100% use his Bottas boy to do exactly that. I was thinking the same. But Perez was within striking distance of podium, so presumably they held out hopes Norris would make a mistake.

Yeah, could be other reasons as well. Maybe Perez didn't have another set of new softs, or RB wasn't willing to risk not ending up ahead of Mercedes in the standings for a race, as that will most definitively attract sponsors and PR, even if it's only temporary.

Yeah i think so too. Doesn't help but think Max is always 1 vs 3 - Hamilton, Bottas and Wolf, while Horner and the whole RB gang are a lot useless in the pure sport side of things... Nvm, moving on. Happy for all 3 on the podium and ofc quite sad about Charles ...

Bottas got shafted by Mercedes. I will assume from this that his contract renewal talks are going badly Edit: Norris current penalty points. 8/12 2020 Stryian GP, 2 points, Neglecting yellow flag in FP1 (Will expire next month) 2020 Turkish GP, 3 points, Neglecting double yellow flag in Q1 2021 Azerbaijan Grand Prix, 3 points, Failing to pit on a red flag in Q1

Seems like it could be a tire stress issue, with the rear right giving way on the straight just after the super fast flat out corner. Vettel could actually get P1 here. Fresh softs on a restart. EDIT: Holy fuck that finish to the race. Well done Baku.

Vettel and Perez equally impressed me. I really hope Canada will be at least as entertaining as this one.
