Team decision not to pit him, and a very difficult one at that. Since he's first, he can't predict what everyone else would do, and if he had ended up pitting while no one else did, he'd be at the back as well. Definitively not on Lewis that one. His team would have had to make the call
I know it's a late reply, but wrong.
During the formation lap, the driver isn't allowed to be coached. I'm sure that the engineers were quietly begging him to come inside, but that decision had to come from him, otherwise would face a penalty.
Huge rookie mistake imo.

Not sure why this myth keeps circulating. Masi had to come out and confirm it as well. The comm ban is only for the actual first formation lap, not for any red flag outlap.
Heck, they even showed Ocon talking to his engineer during the outlap on the broadcast, discussing whether they should come in or not.

Cant wait for the next 3 GP`s they are going to be AMAZING (not as a Ferrari fan , as those will be bad for us ) !!! This remains the only sport I am following these crazy days , not quite sure why , but soccer games with no fans made it far worst viewing experience for me even on TV for some reason , last year I barely managed to watch the champions league semis/final , crazy if I look back on how I usually watched most of the season.

If it is a broken fuel pump, as Aston Martin claim, then that is a bullshit penalty. 18 points to a team like that is huge.
|
There's no leeway in the rules for a situation like that unfortunately. It isn't a failure to extract the fuel due to a broken pump. It's a leakage of fuel out of the fuel cell that was previously undetected.
If there was 1L in the tank, in a difficult to extract manner there would be some way to argue that they can provide the samples necessary, but since they lost some volume of fuel through leakage they cannot physically provide 1L, even with a full disassembly.
They still have a second appeal ongoing, in addition to the right for review, but that's unlikely to go anywhere as well for the same reason.

Not a broken fuel pump. There was a chain of events that lead to the fuel flow reader showing wrong values, leading to them using more fuel than they thought. There was not more than 1L left in that car

Off-topic, but the flag guy at the end of the 24h Le Mans nearly getting clipped by one of the cars is the dumbest shit I've ever seen. I was not aware that this was still a tradition. There's a reason literally every other motorsport in the world has gotten rid of it since the 80s. It's a lethal accident waiting to happen

It's a lethal accident waiting to happen I saw that clip and was like "what the fuck???". Who in their right mind would think this is still a good idea? The motorsport traditionalist people are dumb (likely the same ones who are currently arguing against doing anything to make Eau Rouge and Raidillon safer after there have been multiple severe crashes there in the last couple years resulting in a fatality and several people being hospitalized).
I saw Albon won in DTM today. That's neat. Fred Vasseur from Alfa Romeo was talking about him positively recently. I wonder if he's being looked at by some of the teams with open seats? There's rumour Alfa Romeo will have a new lineup next year since Kimi is probably gonna retire and Giovinazzi's seat is no longer controlled by Ferrari. Williams is also apparently in talks with a bunch of drivers since they no longer need a pay driver like Latifi. Albon apparently also was at Indycar last weekend so he must be sizing up his options. Given how well things are going for Grosjean there, that option would have to be appealing should F1 be no longer possible for any of the recent crop of F1 drivers.
I do wonder if Tsunoda will be around next year. There's no doubt he's quick on a good day but he's apparently very resistant to feedback and is still having temper problems. They forced him to move to Italy to embed with the team because he wasn't doing what they expected of him.

Tsunoda will for sure be driving for alphatauri next year; team principal is very happy with his performance, he’s a really fast driver, don t forget he’s a rookie this is his first year in F1

Apparently Toto Wolff and Lawrence Stroll are being investigated for insider trading on Aston Martin stocks.

Oof. That's not a good look. Never invest in firms you partner- or have a conflict of interest with

He's crashed more than any other rookie in recent history, and looks lost at times(not unlike Gasly on his RB stint).
Add in the temper issues(granted he is very young), and he may be out of a drive next year. He really needed another year or two in F2 to mature IMO. Unlike some of the other young drivers who came in recently, he really does act his age(and looks).

Well yuki tsunoda will definitely have the same seat next year;
In a recent interview Alpha Taurus team principle said he would love to have the same driver line up next year would be perfect. Combine several determining factors there; the big transition to completely new vehicles next year; If mature for you means being politically correct like saying the right thing in front of the camera and in team radios, remember these are athletes not actors; To compare him to Gasly is like comparing lando Norris to Ricciardo - the first have an almost perfect synergy and momentum with their teams;
In short he’s fast, promising, is backed by Honda, and is very popular in Japan; and Red Bull need more than anything less turnover like any other team going into 2022; 2023 may very well be a different story

He doesn't choose what drivers he has, Helmut Marko and Red Bull do. Helmut tends to be a lot less charitable than Franz Tost, especially with drivers who don't show any improvement. This is why there's a narrative of Tsunoda potentially not having a seat.
Tsunoda hasn't shown much in terms of improvement while still having some of the same problems he started the season with (he crashes a ton, has horrid qualifying when he doesn't crash out, and is very inconsistent). His best result, last race, only happened because more than half the field in front of him either got taken out of the race or had their race compromised by collision damage (he started 16th and ended up 6th. He finished ahead of two broken cars, the Williams cars, a Haas, and the Alfas. This would be the bare minimum for someone in a car much faster than these 3 teams. He was also over a second off Pierre in qualifying). His second best result, 7th in Baku, was where he didn't gain any positions himself but lost a place at the start then moved up 2 spots after Verstappen and Hamilton had their issues. If not for those events, Tsunoda would be at like 5-6 points compared to his teammate's 50, all in a pretty good car that is capable in qualifying and the race. It's more dangerous for Tsunoda because Red Bull has other options available they could chuck in the car and likely get at least decent results with while they wait for their juniors to develop more.
They should have given him at least another year or two in F2. It seems like he was rushed into F1 far too quickly based on half of a good season.

You know perfectly well what mature means, and it's not about cussing in front of the camera once a while. I was endeared to his lack of filter at first, but when he started whining, blaming and attacking other drivers, never taking responsibility for his own mistakes, etc. He lost me quickly
I'd be really surprised, and tbh a bit annoyed, if Tsunoda kept his seat considering how poorly he's being doing vs other much more talented drivers that have been pushed out in his stead.

That was a well reasoned statement Ben however I disagree:
yes it’s Red Bull who decides those seats for alpha Tauri. And that is precisely why they will keep tsunoda; the pourpose of alpha tauri is not to get good racing results, rather to develop inexperienced drivers. For then to make them shine at red bull. Now red bull already has prodigy max Verstappen who is and will be the shining stars for many years to come. And red bull unofficially has that “second seat curse” ; literally no one manages to make it work (perhaps Perez is the best shot they have had since riccardo)
So in the long run you do not win championships without team mate support, which is partly why red bull with verstappen has not happened yet at the top. The last year and half is basically a Ham-Ver-Bot podium fest, apart from the now up and coming McLaren, the odd Ferrari presence, and other team.
So that second seat is the quintessence of the red bull focus other than there standard efforts. And F1 is miles away from F2, every driver always claims that.
And that is why they will keep tsunoda for at least another season and a half. Personality and rookie mistakes can be rectified, but talent, speed and determination cannot.
Unless they promote gasly back to Red Bull, or promote someone from F2 or F3 directly to Red Bull, Tsunoda will keep racing at alpha tauri

This used to be true, but RB has officially changed this stance due to the current budget restraints. There is no longer any Red Bull A and B team, since both teams get the exact same funding. RB is doing a lot better currently, but they're still coasting on their pre-budget restraint history. We could at some point see these two teams switch around, with RB becoming the slower while AT fights for the WDC.

i don' t understand why you guys don' t like him, or go as far as saying hes not talented. or even why for you it doesn' t make sense that they would keep him. to me it does.
i mean if we are talking about someone not keeping their seat next year, Giovinazzi and Mazepin comes to mind;
