Now they are fighting with Mercedess for second place and RB have no competition even for individual races. Hopefully next season someone will be able to compete. Ferrari were behind on points obviously, before the break, but their car was actually a little faster on average. Not any more it looks like though so yeah, the next races might not be the most exciting ones.

Ferrari continue to bring the entertainment when we need it most. That attempt at fastest lap was hilarious and blew up in their faces in the most amusing way possible. Their radio antics were funny too. It makes me wonder if Leclerc got mad at them for never asking for his input on strategy so now they've gone too far the other way and are now making Leclerc make all of the decisions. This race was the perfect demonstration of what's wrong at McLaren. They can have the best drivers in the world and it wouldn't matter. Their car is too draggy and slow. Throughout the race, Norris and Ricciardo would close in to like a 0.25s gap on other cars in sectors 2 and 3 but then lose half a second in sector 1, even with DRS. I think both drivers only managed one or two overtakes apiece despite both being in DRS range of other cars nearly the entire race. Their strategy was also a disaster. They pitted both drivers then released them into traffic at their first stops. Then at the second stop when both cars were losing time on old hards they pitted Norris but left Ricciardo out for like 4 more laps where he was losing a ton of time so by the time he pitted he ended up P15 at the back of a DRS train. When you contrast this with how Alpine performed this weekend (and in general recently) it really makes you wonder what Piastri was thinking ditching Alpine. Zak Brown must have promised him the world. Albon again pulled off his defensive heroics. He was easily the driver under the most pressure the entire race but he never slipped up other than one small lockup. From what I remember, 9th or 10th was about the best case scenario for Williams and he managed to achieve that.

1. Qualify on Pole 2. Break parc ferme, and start from the pit lane 3. YOLO his way up the field Either that or just win races from the front. Doesn't matter either way, Ferrari will fuck stuff up.

It's a pretty impressive blunder by Alpine, as it turns out Piastri signed with McLaren a whole month before Alonso's news came out. So Alpine basically sat on their hands for an entire month, got caught by surprise by Alonso's departure, and then decided to deny reality and pretend Piastri is still racing for them with no contract and without confirming it with the driver. I'm amazed that some people think this makes Piastri looks bad, and not Alpine, who's had a complete failure to understand simple concepts such as "If we don't sign drivers they might go elsewhere".

With a lineup like that, next year we will be fighting for P3 in constructors possibly. 79 to 19 points this season, Norris to Ricciardo, and a podium to boot. In the past decade McLaren have had some very tabla Ted and very poor performing drivers. Remains to be seen if piastri is one of those guys who hit the ground running like verstappen and Norris did in F1; certainly though experience in F1 takes time, years, to really set in properly. And hopefully he will have a good sinergy with Norris, and ultimately with McLaren. Would like to see the team eventually fight for the championship, however as of now no customer engine team is outdoing the engine supplier, so that doesn’ t look in the works at least until 2026. What a debut however for piastri. It’s not often that a driver is in contention between the P4 and P5 team in the constructors in his rookie year.
