Dutch crowds have been horrible for a couple of years now. Soccer hooligans with rioting, audiences with throwing beer at artists, all kinds of stuff. Ironically there is a GIF of other Dutch people throwing beer at the guy who threw the flare. It's like people suddenly realized that when you do stupid shit there will be no serious consequences in most cases.

Apparently Ricciardo and Vettel had their laps ruined because Stroll went wide right before the final turn and kicked a bunch of dirt onto the track so the people right behind him all lost all grip going into the final corner. Ricciardo ended up with the whole final corner being compromised, which cost him a bunch of time. In the timings he had green sectors 1 and 2 and was on pace to get through before he suddenly lost a bunch of time in sector 3. That also explains how Vettel got into that bizarre slide that ended with him going into the gravel that they showed on TV. If you watch the onboard, his rear just suddenly starts sliding out of nowhere and it doesn't look like what normally happens when I driver overdoes it going into a corner.

That pigeon aftermath looked like a squirrel road kill...

Ironically there is a GIF of other Dutch people throwing beer at the guy who threw the flare. It's like people suddenly realized that when you do stupid shit there will be no serious consequences in most cases. This is quite the exaggeration. Yes there are some football teams that have a serious hooligan problem. They have had that for a long time, not just for the last few years mind you, and it's hardly a specifically Dutch problem. Usually Dutch crowds of national teams are comparatively well behaved even, there's hardly ever any problems when people are clad in orange. It's just that a few assholes have discovered a new way to get attention at a big event. (The flare thrower that was arrested didn't even wear orange or Red Bull colors btw).
It has hardly been commented on but a lot of the previous upsets about this topic we had earlier in the season have been debunked. For instance those girls that were invited into the AM pit (that was also posted in this thread) made up their story about being discriminated against. There was one guy in Hungary that burned Merc merch. ONE. Did no one find it strange how little footage there was of all these misbehavings while we live in a world where basically everyone walks around with a camera? Yes there were trashy people in Austria but it was a very small minority. Austrian police were actually surprised by how quiet the event was. Exactly zero people reported a crime.
It sucks to have these people having discovered F1 but don't generalize please. This has all been seriously overblown.

Surprised. Not a single flare in sight at the start of the race
|
At this point I'm pretty sure that Ferrari and Leclerc already hate each other. On a track where overtakes are not possible, they put him on start with 3 laps old tires.

I'm waiting for the rain to come if not this race is going to be another procession

This is the first time the Mercs look genuinely competitive. Keeping up with the harder tire even.

Seems to be a general theme today. The softs are having pretty high degradation. Hards are reported to be completely worthless as well. So this is going to be a medium's race from now on
edit: Just as I say that, Alonso bolts on hards. Let's see how it pans out

If I took a shot every time Ferrari fucks up, I'd be dead by now
The rear left guy wasn't even there when Sainz came in, wheel gun just tossed into the lane

Don't think I've ever seen a 12.7s stop It's quite incredible.

At this point this team is hurting the Ferrari brand instead of improving it, which is the whole reason they actually exist.

Seems like the Mercs really pulled the longest straw in terms on strategy here. Well done to them

Having the unlucky Vettel placement after that overtake might end up being critical here Gut says this is a Verstappen win, but I really hope Hamilton can pull something out and magic a win.

Never seen that before, a driver wrongly thinking tires aren't fitted properly

Clearly he felt something, since he parked the car afterwards. I'm really curious to what this was about
