Sheikh Salman Bin Ebrahim al-Khalifa, the Bahraini president of the Asian Football Confederation, is to stand for the FIFA presidency, sources have told Sky News. The move by the 49 year-old member of Bahrain's royal family makes him the favourite to become leader of world football's governing body, and could end any prospect of Michel Platini succeeding Sepp Blatter. Sheikh Salman, who is expected to confirm his candidacy next week following an emergency meeting of FIFA's executive committee, has only been a member of the FIFA body since 2013, having won the presidency of the AFC in the same year. Until recently he was Platini's most influential supporter, urging more than 50 Asian FIFA members to back the Frenchman's candidacy Sky News Well if you're hoping for change in Fifa, this is the worst case scenario, really Blatter again would probably be better. We should all hope that someone somewhere has something to charge him with, though I don't even think that would make a difference. Edit: An FA statement read: "The FA wishes Mr Platini every success in fighting these charges and clearing his name, and has no interest in taking any action that jeopardises this process. "However, notwithstanding the above, at the Uefa meeting on Thursday, the FA learned more information relating to the issues at the centre of this case from Mr Platini's lawyers. "We have been instructed that the information must be kept confidential and therefore we cannot go into specifics. FA suspends support for Michel Platini's president bid

Would be sort of sad but personally I would find it funny because we were always pointing at Qatar etc. There's two different stories going on right now. One is Spiegel Online claiming that there was a slush fund used for different bribes of voting members, to a total amount of 13m DM (6.5m €), with involvement of a couple of people that would be hit hard if it is true. Like Niersbach rumored to run for Uefa presidency. The other story is that the DFB thinks a 2005 payment of 6.7m € that was intended for the Fifa culture programm may have been misused, www.dfb.de.

Is that why we have failed so much TT Hehe, tbh I bet every single World Cup in the last centuries was bought. :D Sneirac: Thx for explaining, I edited my post because I knew it wasn't everything. Yours sounds good.

we are the ones who have not been caught. So far the only World Cup which hasn't been connected with bribes is Japan and Brazil! Nice

Same with stuff like Olympic games, tv rights, player transfers... Any business were very few people decide over a lot of money without any regulation or supervision is corrupt to some degree.

-The german bidding committee received 13 million D-mark from (then?) adidas-boss Louis-Dreyfuß in 2000. -They never declared the money in any official documents. -The money was a loan, used to "secure the votes from asia". -In 2005 he (Louis-Dreyfuß) wants the money back. -The (now) organizing committee transfers 6,7 million € (thats almost exactly 13 millions D-mark) to FIFA, for some opening ceremony which was never to happen. Beckenbauer acknowledged this payment. -FIFA was supposed (no mention of by whom precisely) to give the money back to the adidas-man. No mention of whther that actually happened.

No, football has been fucked for the last 20 years. The next 20 can only get better with less corruption. Still waiting for a proper investigation into the rampant corruption in the Champions League over the last decade
