On Germany 2006. Everybody thought that world cup was going to go to South Africa and I believe even Blatter was pushing for an African world cup. On the night before the vote some of the delegates that had been for South Africa can envelopes under the door to their hotel rooms with messages inside. The delegate that was from Australia or New Zealand was so scared he booked the next flight out and returned home and didn't vote at all, his vote was going for South Africa by the way. He gave the reasoning of being scared for his life if he voted for South Africa.

Probably half of the world cups have been outright bought. I don't think Japorea was nor USA 94...but France 98 and on I believe the bribes have been outlandish.

I can't find a link for the story from the 2006 vote, but if I find one I will add it. Charles Dempsey was the delegate and Wikipedia does say that he abstained because of "intolerable pressure" even though he was instructed to vote for South Africa. Germany beat South Africa 12-11...his vote would have tied it and at the time I think Blatter casted the tie breaking vote and he was for South Africa.
