They were the two most important events for the U.S. in WWII, which is probably the single most known about and historically important war in the entire world. Of course, to the American public, which is so stupid that random people don't know things like "When the Declaration of Independence and Constitution were written" or "Who fought in the American Civil War" or "Who did the U.S. gain its independence from", those events might elude them, but you still can't really categorize these events as "obscure".
