By signing that deal and tying up the Lakers cap space, Kobe is inadvertently doing the Lakers a favor by preventing them from signing middle class players to long term contracts. Those contracts would not only last past the next 2 years (in which the Lakers even with Kobe playing for the minimum could not even win the Western Conference in any scenario), but would also probably cause the Lakers to not be in the lottery.
No, the David Stern trade veto and the Steve Nash trade/contract already ensured the Lakers would not contend this year or next, so why not pay Kobe to do cool Kobe things while you work out all the rubbish that is clogging up your engine.
that's one of the points of the article. i dont care about the article, but how many players would take less to play with kobe than over someone like lebron or durant? or does LA absolutely have to wait until kobe's contract comes off the books to be able to sign someone good?
And yea yea I know it's only preseason, but damn it if that didn't look like vintage Kobe right there.
I'll say this much, that guy takes the hardest shots in the game. Straight postups from 21 feet out into turn around 19 footers. It's not a real thing.

Looks amazing when he makes them but if he's gonna try pulling that shit all season the Lakers won't win many tight ones. That last play was ridiculously bad.
Yeah, trying to shoot through the double team with help instead of passing it to a wide open, good 3 point shooter on the wing is a bad call. It's cool that he made 3 horrible shots in a row but that is extremely bad basketball.

This is such a lame opinion. Ridiculous shots are awesome. Spursian ball movements' fine but ballers are cool. And it's preseason, who cares (note: Kobe will do this at least a thousand times in the regular season too. And if he was in the Fonals, he would still do it.) "Shootability" is an underrated skillz.
I don't think anyone needs to point out that Kobe has questionable shot selection sometimes. That's what makes him Kobe and that's what people pay to see him do.

pretty much this.
Yeah, I agree and this seems to fit me. I love watching Kobe play, but I don't really care if the Lakers win or lose :/.
