lol that explains about half the score, which isn't the half that's being argued. You're letting a judge subjectively score a skater who she's clearly very close with and another judge on the panel with a history of corruption. The woman with the blue scarf in that photo is another of the judges. This Russian girl scored 18 points more with the same routine (with a mistake), than her personal best a month ago, making her score the second highest figure skating score in the last 8 years. Just be happy Russia stole a gold and leave it at that.

Just look at the scorecards in this article: http://www.thewire.com/culture/2014/02/why-people-think-adelina-sotnikovas-figure-skating-gold-medal-was-rigged/358344/

"Russians medaled at every figure skating event they entered."

i've said this before guys.

the IOC fixes a few events so that the hosts who went to great trouble and expense to put on the games get some extra gold.

same thing happened in 2010 in Vancouver.

I love Canada and everything, but i'm not a moron. Canada was gifted at least 2 of those 14 gold we got in 2010.

The IOC, however, does not screw around with men's hockey due to the NHL having such a big hand in the event. The IOC is constantly having the suck off NHL officials to get them to send the NHL players to the games for free.

The IOC fixes events that it has a firm strangle hold on.

from a TV Viewers perspective, Russia nad Sochi has put on a great show. they deserve a couple of bullshit medals just like Vancouver/Canada got in 2010.

The ice for hockey has sucked balls though. from 10,000 miles away on TV... Sochi has been great... give those Russian mofos a few extra medals and call it a day!

TO RUSSIA... WITH LOVE!

To prove that you're not a moron, point out 2 of those golds that Canada was gifted. Was the Men's Curling one of them?

One of them must have been the men's hockey gold. Canadian refs after all - rig confirmed

Also, TL sure got a lot of figure skating experts all of a sudden lol.

It's obvious we need a general figure skating thread to talk about it!

I'm also wondering what other events we were gifted at Vancouver?

the hosting nation always gets little nods in their favour as the IOC places judges who nudge things in the hosting nations favour.
they can control the temperature, and humidity of the racing courses in such a way that it favours their racers.

if u think Canada was full value for all 14 medals guy, you're dreaming in technicolour.

The 1976 Disaster In Montreal

1976 was a disaster in MOntreal. 15 or 20 years later the IOC decided to grease the skids and what better way to get more dirty money out of the hosting city than to have wink/wink nudge/nudge deals on a medal or two.

the last thing they want is another Montreal. the city spends a gazillion bajillion dollars and the host country wins fuck all.

YOU CAN SHEER A SHEEP MANY TIMES.
YOU CAN ONLY SKIN IT ONCE.

The IOC Skinned that MOnteal sheep alive guys.

Ironically , this was the beginning of the end for Montreal as Canada's #1 City.
Montreal city officials thought this would make Montreal way way way better than Toronto.. make it #1 by far.. instead it had the opposite effect.

Toronto is the business capital of Canada.

ROFLMAO.

That post gave no insight into how host nations win more medals than they deserve. It was just general speculation filled rambling that didn't prove anything. At least name some medals that canada got in 2010 that other competitors deserved more.

You even tried to side track the discussion by bringing up Montreal trying to be better than Toronto... Jezz

I would think the primary benefits are familiarity with courses and some sort of crowd effect on judging.

it happened in 2002 with women's hockey at Salt Lake City, in favour of the USA , where it was hosted.
read my post before that one... the Sale and Pelletier incident is already well documented.

it happened in Vancouver where MIRACLE OF MIRACLES Canada wins more gold than ever before and ever will again unless they increase the # of events in the WInter Olympics to 328475937

the IOC is corrupt and shifts a few medals towards the host nation... to grease the skids and skim more cash from the host nation and city.

salt lake, van-city, now sochi....
i mean.. in the summer olympics half the guys are on roids.

if Canadians think Canada was full value for all 14 gold medals in Vancouver in 2010.. then they prolly also believe in Santa Claus and the tooth fairy.

Stop mentioning 2010 if you aren't going to name any specific events or moments where Canadians didn't deserve the medal they got.

And that moment in 2002, alright so the Olympics fucked up and an American referred the game. Mistakes are mistakes but that doesn't mean the IOC rigs each and every Olympics for the host nation.

LOL, Canada controlled the temperature and humidity...I fucking wish. We can barely handle our own rain.

And yes, we had everything under our control. Instead of, you know, the actually panic of hosting the Olympics without having any snow on the mountains.

Here is a nice story why the Dutch are so good at speed skating. Which makes me wonder, why arent the Dutch good at hockey? Its like Soccer on Speed Skating but Manlier -- and after the way the Dutch team played Spain in the Final in 2010 -- I think they'd enjoy being able to physically beat someone up to.
Skating is deeply ingrained in the culture and competes with only soccer for popularity in the country. Top skaters are revered, stands are packed with orange-clad supporters, and many top athletes go into speed skating rather than sports more popular elsewhere. Competitors start young, are coached by former Olympic medalists, and have access to some of the world’s best facilities. The US, for example, has two training ovals for speed skaters—the Netherlands has 17.

first, i hate to break this to you, but cheating exists in Starcraft2.
http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=340614

its a reality of every luge and bobsleigh event. and its a reality that every one tries to get an edge on the exact track conditions from everything from LUGE to NASCAR... in every race ever invented.

onto the specific topic at hand.
http://globalnews.ca/news/1150393/track-conditions-may-have-cost-canadians-olympic-luge-medal-coach-says/

the reality of every luge and bobsleigh event.
"The Star reported that he thinks the track warming may have been deliberate. The track is equipped with a cooling system, and Staudinger suggested that the cooling may have been turned down later in the race, changing the ice conditions."

this of course works in both directions. you can also insure the track conditions are perfect for your home team riders and crap for other teams. stories of vancouver manipulation were just as prevelant in 2010 as they are now.

As far as manipulating track conditions to get an advantage in qualifying at NASCAR i'd like to quote the great Richard Petty
" if you ain't cheatin' you ain't tryin' "

onto your "conspiracies don't exist because they are conspiracies".

9/11 was a conspiracy amongst many people.
unless u can somehow explain how 3 towers fell , a hole was put in the pentagon and a giant crater appeared in pennsylvania and it was all caused by 1 guy who talked to no one. so 9/11 had to be a conspiracy of some kind.

if you think the Canadians who ran the Van-City olympics were 100% boy-scout honest and always did everything for "the good of the sport" and "the ultimate in fair play" you are living in the same dream world that contains the tooth fairy and santa claus.

if ur point is that "conspiracies don't happen in canada".

i could talk about Liberal Adscam, Paul Bernardo/Homolka and how the cops fucked up the DNA test, the 20+ year MLG Child Abuse Ring... i got lots of proven made in canada conspiracies that are 4854897 times worse than screwing with the temperature on a luge track.

the MLG Child Abuse Ring makes Penn State look like amateur hour.

conspiracies exist in canada. just ask the child abuse victims of the maple leaf gardens horror show... unless you'd now like to blame the victims.

back to the specific topic at hand.

http://www2.macleans.ca/2010/02/12/death-on-luge-track-leads-to-questions-about-course-canadian-competitiveness/

“People have the argument that it’s just home advantage and that’s normal for an Olympic host country, but it’s different for sports involving high speed. Can you imagine in Formula One nobody being allowed on a track because somebody has home advantage?”

what is really sad is.. this caused someone to die.

tell ya, this just makes me wanna sing the canadian national anthem!

Canada benefited from "home field advanatage" in 2010 as every host country does. Without that advantage there is no way Canada wins 14 gold.

WHAT A COUNTRY!

I think this proves my point.
Y'know sometimes people ask me y'know like "What's your religion and stuff?" And I'm like "y' know it's like RTS." Uh, and they're like, "What's that?" And I'm like, "Y'know it's kinda like, kinda like Buddism."
