In this team there were guys like Ake, Rekik, Kongolo, Vilhena and Boetius. You also have guys like Krishna and Denswil who look bright. But these guys aren't the guys I'm thinking about though, there is a crop of 16/17 year olds at both Ajax and Feyenoord that look amazing. and honestly. There are far prospects for the next generation than we had for our last which only good contribution was playing great in the group stages to bomb out in the knock-out stage. The final we reached was with the most negative football I've ever seen. It's not the most negative football I've ever seen, perhaps just negative for Netherlands standards. A World Cup finals is still a World Cup finals. Regardless, that was down to the coach, not the players. This was a golden generation for Netherlands really. I absolutely don't see a Robben or RvP running around in our current youth teams. While the under 18's might look really good, I think development really stagnates is a terribly weak Eredivisie. Maybe I'm too pessimistic about the future team but I look at Ajax, the best team in Eredivisie wiped out by Salzburg and it has me worried. This is the league where Dutch youth is developing in and it's just no longer competitive.

Robben, Sneijder (on occasions) and RvP are big boots to fill, but the rest of the generation wasn't all that great. You look at the squads at 1998/2000 and you see class in all areas of the pitch. Hell Sneijder would probably have been benched. While I agree that the league is crap, I don't think it has to be bad for our youth. Belgium currently have a great squad despite their league being worse than ours. I think the problems you see today are due to Ajax favoring foreign youth talent over the years and Feyenoord mismanagement. I'm still hopeful that things will be different, four years is a long time.

Thats very sweet, he totally got my respect for that ![]() Even though Brazil missing a world class striker and GK, they are not a team to underestimate. They have the best defence and backs imo. Their midfield and wingers are strong too.

I'm very confident for a good Portuguese showing, first of all we won't get so squashed by the weather since 30º/35º is normal in the summer in Portugal, not the same humidity of course but they will manage. I'm happy if we get to the round of 8 or above! The usual team plus some youngsters and a CR7 on fire can take us there or a bit higher!!!` We probably won't win but you will have to bring your A game to beat this team.. remember only Spain has been kicking us out and it was 1-0 and 1-1(penaltys) I'm from Benfica but Sporting's William de Carvalho.. is like the new Patrick Vieira, he is only 19(edit: 21) but we will have riots if he doesn't play.. This kid will be a world star! i'm happy!

He has used a looot of Dutch players to be honest.

Thankfully, Sporting will have to sell him soon and he'll get to grow into being one of the best defensive midfielders in a top club (Manchester United?). Do you really think its a good idea to send him Moyes's hands?

btw, Chile played quite well against Germany. I think they really can pass the group phase with Holland or Spain.

That last group game should be a good one and will likely decide who goes through with Spain. Don't over-value the performance too much. The Dutch are still quite good. Furthermore, this was 1) a friendly where 2) Germany didn't field their best squad. I still think Chile is a very decisive underdog in their group, and I expect the Dutch to get out of the group fine, along with Spain.

The only players i can imagine replacing someone are Reus and Khedira, besides them that will most likely be the starting 11 in the first game.

And Lahm should really play as a defender, we dont have an alternative for him in the national team. Großkreutz was a mess yesterday.
