They are the Zenit of all that's wrong with football. Taking top talent and putting them in obscure leagues to hide them away from the world with the exception of the champions league. How are these leagues supposed to get less obscure if they can't have any top talent? By naturally rising and increasing domestic demand and reaching their potential like Germany. A billionaire splurging cash on one single team in a relatively meaningless league does not suddenly make that league box office. It's just a horrible and lamentable way for some great players to whittle away the productive years of their careers in virtual isolation.
And why is it the club's fault? Ultimately it's the players that choose to play for those clubs.

Well obviously it's not the club's fault per se, it's more what they represent and what they currently are as a result of the billionaire's influence.
I don't really have much of a problem with the players doing it if they want to either actually. It's their choice if they value money over glory. Funnily enough though, it would make a lot more sense to become world famous playing in a top league, earning marginally less, because the tail end of your career will be arguably more replete with opportunities to be a pundit, manager or figure in football if you have been more recognised and visible.

The Russian league while not he best is not really obscure either.

On a personal level i don't see why anyone would want to play in Russia though. I mean i remember going back just a few years, the South American players and even European players wouldn't consider playing in England due to the weather lol. Yet now half of South America's best talent is in Russia. Quite funny what money can do in any profession.

I imagine these reasons:
- the women - the money - the LOW TAX! - maybe it's cheap over there to buy property (no idea)? - the fact that there is probably already a really strong industry dedicated to serving extremely rich people - less professional pressure - big fish in small pond

Hey guys! Just came home from Barcelona for a 1 week holiday. I managed to get a ticket for Barca vs Levante for 65€ on the blue seats. Seeing Camp Nou was amazing! The whole atmosphere, all the fans/tourists too walking up the ramp was so amazing. Hearing the catalonian music and just enjoying the huge stadium was so cool.
On top of that seeing 7 goals was sick haha. I'll post some pics if you guys want me to . Now lets more enjoy the game, history and atmosphere and talk less about money, wealth and oil sheiks please

If you go to Barcelona and are there on matchday you will ALWAYS get a ticket, stadium is to big to sell out every week, plus im sure they rely on tourists buying tickets.
Should defiantly do it, hell even i will do it before i die ^_^ I was so close to going in the 2012 Champions League run but i bottled it as i had the tickets offered me >.< (this is for the away end though, up in the gods of the sky xD)

Not ALWAYS. On Champions League matches you cannot find legal tickets :p At least for the average-big games. I saw Barça-Bilbao (2-0) and Barça-Lyon (5-2) there, for the 2008-09 season, it was just awesome. The field is so beautiful and even when your seat is far from it you can see everything clearly. I live 1 year just 2 streets away from the stadium, it was awesome :D
The only thing "bad" about the Camp Nou is the amount of tourists that come to see the games. There are still a lot of socios but the ambiance is generally quiet except for the big games.

Nah it's not awful but it's completely out of the bloody way and just as far as football news and general coverage goes it's pretty far down there.

Yeah it's happening quite alot but obviously to a bigger extent in Barcelona. Chelsea have quite a few tourist fans now and so do the rest of the league no doubt.

I've been to the Camp Nou once, it was before the game vs Chelsea when Lampard scored that beutiful goal. What I found really interesting compared to how it looks on tv is how small and cramp it feels compared to Serbian stadiums which all seem to have athletics tracks. I went to the top level of Barcas stadium and it felt so much smaller than on tv, maybe because it was empty. But at the same time I could see all the tourists and whatnot at pitch level perfectly well even though I was way up high. Always wondered what it would feel like inside with 95k people

Yeah most i've been in is a 89.9k at Wembley in 2009 FA cup final that felt MAD!!! Was so packed before the game and after, i remember the huge line for the train was flippin mental xD The stadium itself though i was 2nd tier of the stand and it was awesome seats, i mean perfect level to see everything. Quite good how they get the design right with the ability to see perfectly well even though your in a 90.000 seater stadium

There was ALOT of tourists when i saw vs Levante, it felt almost like a tourist match (being a tourist myself) there, was many asians, so many russians, frenchmen people are EVERYWHERE in Barcelona in general.
I think there was 60-70k sold out. What surprised me was the Barca fanclub just behind the goal. It only consisted of maybe 20 hardcore fans with flags, 1 on drums to pump up the atmosphere and thats it. I'm used to at my local stadium there's maybe 100-200 hardcore fans making WAY more noise and singing than i saw in camp nou. It was almost ironic considering it's top3 biggest club in the world.
On the way to the stadium and inside everyone was taking pictures with Barca flag, accesories, together, all the tourity stuff.
There was a wave tho which was awesome to see among 70k other spectators. Fun none the less. 1 more thing is sitting so high up the stadium felt so so much smaller than when you see it in TV. Like the pitch looked tiny and Barca players was literally playing around with Levante. 4 goals in 26min was hilarious tho. And seeing Neymar come on for the first time as well was kinda sweet . Some of my thoughts, pics will come btw i just need to get my ass together :D

I have also noticed that many of the spanish liga games seem ludicrously quiet, I always wondered if it was because of the mic'ing but perhaps it's just cos the fans can't eb bothered to go crazy.

The crazy hardcore barça fans (Boixos Nois) were banned from entering the stadium by Laporta, and deservedly so. At that moment it raised a lot of critics but nowadays everyone agrees it was a good move.
The average barça fan (and the average catalan for that matter) has usually been the quiet type

yeah every one agree when it comes with making money. Ultras are not the kind of people who come to buy expensive goodies and sit gently, going to the stadium like at the cinema. And there's even the risk they could scare those nice rich spectators.
So like everywhere in europe they ban ultras, disregarding every democratic aspects. In France they are KILLING football with a similar policy. They already killed the ambiance in the Parc des Prince (PSG's stadium) wich was reknowned as the finest in France (with RC Lens). They banned all the guys from supporter groups, 15k people punished for 200 guys doing shit.
This is how democracy works in France and more and more int the rest of europe.
