They just re-signed Splitter for a biggish contract, so I doubt they have the money for Millsap plus Ginobili. Plus they already have so many undersized bigs, I think Al Jefferson or Gortat would've made more sense.

edit: plus apparently they just re-signed Manu for a ridiculous 2 year, 14 million contract so just forget about it. The Spurs are going to be exactly the same team, minus whoever gets injured (and maybe plus Baynes? I'd like to see him play this year).

They can still waive Bonner for a cool 1 mill or amnesty him or someone else (not sure who else they have they can do it to). You are probably right on it not making sense after the Splitter signing though.

edit: 2yr/14 mill whoaa. That shuts anything else out really... the Spurs mighta used their heart too much on this one.

Didn't expect that to be honest. I thought he'd take much less, like Timmy. Kinda disappointed, it means they'll have to be really lucky with injuries (like this year) if they want to be contenders. Oh well, hopefully Leonard and Green keep getting better .

Ya agree with that. I did just read that it's a 50% cut from the $14 million he made last season. Although I still think 7 might be slightly too high, it is more of a pay cut than I realized.

HE has consistently signed for less his entire career, im sure they agreed to pay him more in his twilight for taking less during his prime. The opposite of duncan/parker, who should be getting paid during their prime and discounting themselves in the twilight. Lets be honest, duncan is worth max for life just on his marketability.



If duncan kept taking his max he would be worth 25m amd be bringing his entire team away from competing, like kobe right now, or melo in a few years

Definitely. Ginobli was their highest paid player last season, which is ridiculous if you think about it.

Makes me feel bad for Al though.

@Kosta Koufos pickup- while he's a good big man it doesn't address the Grizzlies' biggest need, floor spacing. I don't think that's going to help them get much farther in the playoffs, the fact remains that every team can simply sag off one of their guards/wings at all times and keep the paint clogged. They really needed to go after one of the 3pt shooters that were FAs this season, the Dunleavys, Korvers, Redicks, etc.

Earl Clark to the Cavs makes me sad.

Annoyed too that the Lakers FO didn't even try to give him a good offer. Bright spot of an otherwise miserable season and they just let him walk.

I'm pretty sure the Lakers went into the offseason knowing how much they could spend on Earl, and it was likely a lot less than what the Cavs threw at him. I'm a little disappointed for Clark because I feel like he's going to get lost in the shuffle behind Bennett and Thompson. I think he plays better as a stretch PF than a SF and had a lot of potential in that role.

I used to see Koufos in the cafeteria at OSU all the time, dude is possibly the most awkward human I've ever seen. He's very friendly though. I'm glad to see him doing well enough in the NBA

at 4.5 mil per season the lakers can do better. I think they are also waiting on Howard to make any other moves that would define their roster. The guy they drafted is pretty much an Earl Clark type player also from reports I've read.

@dystopia: ya I agree with all that, but Darell Arthur and the new guy they traded would not have helped them in that area. And Koufus is a better backup center/pf than Arthur at a better price going forward.

They do need some shooters though, but was mostly just speaking on that specific transaction.

JR Smith 4/24. Seems like a fair price for him, although it kinda fucks up NYK's financials for awhile.

Bulls tryna offer Nate Robb a min contract. It's literally all we can offer him. I'd love for him to stay for much less than he knows he deserves but I like him enough as a player that I almost don't want him to take it and get what he deserves.

Also why the fuck would you offer Al Jeff more money than Horford or Noah? That's insane.

Ya I am not so sure about that Al Jeff signing. I guess they don't place a priority on defense though hah.

And spurs replacing Neal with Belinelli. They weren't going to be able to match offer for him and worked quickly.

As a Bulls fan I liked him. We got him for a great price and he outperformed my expectations.

edit- 3 way trade. Pelicans get 'Reke, Sac gets Vasquez, Blazers get Lopez, Blazers give up picks+cash.

They didn't give him a good offer because they don't have an infinite amount of money. $4.5/year for Clark is pretty decent assuming last season wasn't a fluke and he'll keep improving, but LA doesn't have any room, and they literally can't commit to spending a dime until they know what Dwight is doing.

They have 8 players under contract right now and they're about $6 million over the cap. With Dwight they'll be almost $30 million over the cap AND still need to sign 6-7 more players. $4.5 million for Earl Clark would end up costing them way way more, so they have to think very hard about every signing at this point.

They still have an amnesty and it's very likely going to be used on Artest. I would have liked to see Earl Clark back for LA, but Jordan Hill is pretty similar in terms of his skillset, although Clark has a slightly longer range and the ability to play the 3.. they're not that different though. I would have loved Bellineli to LA though, he's only making ~$2.5 million per year. It's pretty insane the amount of talent the Spurs convince to join their team on really limited funding.

I'm really scared hearing rumors of LA signing Kenyon Martin though, seriously do they understand that they need to stop signing people who are 33-34+? #_#

I feel like LA is going to just keep the same roster as last year and see what happens. If they re-sign Dwight, they literally only have 2 players under contract for 2014. At that time they can re-negotiate with Kobe, who will probably sign a 2-3 year deal for a small amount and finish his career in LA. Then they'll literally be able to rebuild the team almost from scratch.

2013-2014 is going to be something of a throaway year for LA I think. While they could amnesty Artest and try to flip Gasol into some assets, its just way more likely that they do nothing and wait a year.

The current Laker lineup isn't terrible. Assuming they're healthy, they can easily make the playoffs, and I think they may be sneaky good if Kobe comes back full strength and Dwight isn't a shell of his former self. All the old fucks on LA have some gas in the tank for one more run I think, kinda like KG and Pierce. D'antoni needs to just manage minutes better.
