They could be pretty fun to watch in the run and gun style and play to their youth and athleticism.
I think it will be a stretch for them to make the Playoffs--not sure if the team is deep enough but they could make a run.
Well they have a lot of young talent so a lot of it is going to come down to how well they can mesh together.
If it works well I can see that line up taking a game off anyone.

No amount of coaching is going to make that Celtics roster do anything but tank
I think they would be a pleasant surprise if allowed to actually play. I could see them winning 35 games.

when was the last time a team tanked on purpose and made it worthwhile? Cavs?

LOL I love those novelty websites. There's one for the BART situation too ugh.

If you mean Kyrie, then no because that was a result of smart cap management and preying a team that desperately need cap relief. THANKS FAT B-DIDDY.
If you mean Lebron, I think the 2002 Cavaliers were legitimately bad. And they were about as bad in 2001 - even worse, as I recall. So I would not call that a blatant tank job.

I dunno if you could call what the Cs did tanking though, they realized their core is old and their young star is injured, so instead of keeping them around, sucking up cap space while being mediocre, they decided to start a rebuilding effort instead. They have a lot of picks and cap room, so while this is an ideal time to be bad it's not like they were going to be really good and threw that away instead.

It surprises me that Tyreke would sign to a team that he knows would most likely play him at the SF since he talks about hating it so much. Like I said before, makes me think that they're gonna trade Gordon for something.
Korver decided to stay with ATL for 4/24. Dude getting paid.
Kings can match. I think they will but at that number it's probably a mistake to do so.

The Sonics/Thunder did a pretty good job tanking after Durant fell into their lap in 07.
Hornets did a pretty good job last year. Although that was probably a more stealth tank following CP3's departure.

Yeh I could see them failing to be bad enough to get one of the absolute top picks. There's going to be so much competition to be absolutely awful this year!

Whoever gets the #1 pick this next draft.
Davis last year once they realized Gordon wasn't going to play at all and that ownership was on its way out. It was less "tanking" and more "being really bad and neither the coach nor owner nor gm care."
Cavs are in the same boat, "tanked" but were really just kinda bad in general and didn't push the issue to be slightly less bad.
also just here to reiterate how much of a fucking idiot I think Demps is for both signing Evans and trading for Holiday. I will gladly eat my words if the team turns out to be good, but I think he actually made them significantly, massively worse by committing so much cap to such huge question marks. I'd take the bet on the team being sub .500 for the next 2 years. None of it makes sense unless they start shipping other pieces to make room, and even still there's 4 players on the team who HAVE to have the ball in their hands to play to their strengths (Gordon, Evans, Holiday and Vasquez) and it's a complete mess of a combination. We've traded and signed our way into a collection of players with a 124% usage rate from last season which also means we're massively taking the ball out of Davis' hands when he's literally the only true star/potential franchise player on the team.
|
Yeah, that is a massive problem. I can't see that back three throwing the ball down low to Davis unless it's a lob or dump-off. There is a lot of penetration in that team though so it could create a lot of easy buckets for Davis if the passing is willing. I wonder if they'll go the Lopez/Davis option or start Ryno? Guy will have the easiest job to just stand in the corner and shoot threes.
Holiday was a solid upside addition but Tyreke is a tough sell for me at his cost.

Their waiving Lopez to be able to sign Tyreke, otherwise the cap doesn't work.
I just don't like having so many ball hogging guards on the team. One of the most impressive things about Davis is that, for a big guy, he's actually really good off the dribble. If the plan was jsut for him to sit there and receive easy dunks then any big man can do the roll, it massively underutilizes him by necessity.
The Jrue trade was terrible because they traded a #1 overall talent (who'd still be top 5ish in this coming up draft) and, quite likely, a 6-12 pick from one of the higher end drafts because they're creating a shitty fucking team ARGH.
I understand the win now mentality with Benson as the owner, it's just that signing tyreke fucking evans to an already 5 man back court rotation is not how you win now

I hope if Dallas does not get D12, we should tank 100% like Boston. Maybe trade Dirk away for 1 year rent to a contender so he can sign again next year when we would have Randle or Wiggins xD.

I want to reiterate my disappointment that Nerlens won't be playing in New Orleans.

mfw people getting excited about celtic's tank coach

The Tyreke signing really bummed me out too. Hope he isn't Sacramento bad but talk about a major wrench thrown into the mix. They can't have him and Gordon on the team imo. Too many ball handlers in the starting line up.

Still too early to tell but it is looking like SA might be a viable landing spot for Millsap. That would be so beast by them.
Millsap is that x-factor FA I am looking at to see where he lands this offseason. He is kind of going under the radar because he isn't flashy but is a good team player.
