I doubt it. Highly doubt it. As much as I like John and the Ironman Matt Moulson. I don't see them upsetting Pittsburgh, Boston or Montreal. There's just way more depth on those teams.

The Isles i think can put up a fight against the top seeds like Pitt, Montreal, Washington. I feel like Montreal more then the others they can beat with how they played during the regular season. But hey it's a whole new season if they make it, and at that point what happens, happens and may the team that wants the cup more get it.

wash has a better chance than NYI... i don't see who can stop the pens right now

I look forward to MAF and his career playoff .904sv to show up just in time for the first round!!
I think Pitt is definitely very good, but I don't understand why everyone is autopicking them to make the finals. Their defense and goaltending is pretty average. Boston is every bit as good and deep at forward, and their D/G situation is way, way better. Montreal is a couple notches down, but they are good enough in their own end to check their way to a tight series win against them.

"average" is a poor statistic in general. many players are streaky as their confidence ebs and flows throughout a season. this makes his ".904 save percentage" with out much meaning. this theoretical ".904 save percentage goalie" you speak of... does not exist.
the real question is this.
will we get the MAF from Pittsburgh's first trip to game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals with MAF in net? OR will we get the MAF from last year's playoffs?
|
Fleury is too streaky for me. I expect to see Tomas Vokoun.

wat
You heard it here first, in the TL hockey thread. Stop recording all historical data about sports because average means nothing.

nice troll who said average means nothing? i did explain why that stat poorly describes any potential performance MAF may put forth in this years playoffs. just ignore that and keep on trolling though.

So seems more likely than not that the shitty MAF will show up and Pitt will get bounced in the first or second round when they run into a random hot goalie.

At full health, Boston is definitely not as good at forward as Pittsburgh is. Their top line of Crosby, Kunitz and Dupuis is the best in the league. Their second line of Malkin, Neal and Iginla is probably better than Boston's top line. Then they still have Morrow, Jokinen, Brandon Sutter and Matt Cooke. Their defense may not be the best and Fleury can be shaky, but they always have Vokoun, and their defense isn't exactly bad either. Their major difficulties are just going to be staying healthy.

Lou Lamoriello fucked up big time by vastly overestimating the "professional" hockey team he assembled this year, what a joke.

you will be disapoint sir.
I dont understand why so much hate on that thread for Fleury... Keep some for Jumbo Joe who goes awol in the playoffs. Keep some for Gaborik who plays the part of the lochness monster every spring ( if his forsaken team ever makes them )
I mean, Fleury aint THAT bad. He got into 2 finals... And honestly, with the kind of team they have, their playoffs chances rely much more on the status of Crosby's mouth then Fleury's streakyness ( agreeing that they dont play a vintage 80's series with 8-5 scores every night )
If Fleurys plays with average stats like .915 and 2.5 gaa Im pretty sure Pitt can get to the final boss as long as the Animalkin and Crosby are healthy.
Plus Bylsma seems to be a good coach.

KESSSSEELLLLLL 2-2 Tor vs. NY

^^ I hope they play MTL instead of BOS in the first round so they can actually destroy the MTL Midgets and have a chance at 2nd round.
If they get BOS ine the first round they will roll over and die. but at least you guys will have broken the playoff curse.

I think everyone thinks that. At least Boston cannot really push us around, but heck man we have to work on our turnover control. I mean sure there were a few weird bounces tonight but we got to be on top of our shit.

I'm not just talking about playoffs though. Look if Pittsburgh gets behind by two games in a series I'm expecting Tomas to go right in regardless. It would be a strong message to the rest of the team to wake the f up and I agree with you when you say Bylsma is a good coach.

I think the reasons Leafs cant beat Bruins are the Kessel and the Rask trade
edit: I think a coach should live and die by his goalie in the playoffs. The guy that goes in day 1 should be the guy getting the 16th win in the end. I dont really believe in goalie changes in the playoffs. I think its not a good msg to send to your guys.
I think Vokoun is good. I mean he could probably backstop a respectable team in the playoffs ( if he was playing for philly instead of bryzgalov I think they would be in. ) but MAF is the guy you pay 6 millions a year so he has to be your workhorse.

Kessel has been phenomenal recently. He even broke up a great chance for NYR in OT.
|
On the bright side there is no shootout in the playoffs. God Grabs you need to come in with speed. That shot was pitiful.

So yes, if Fluery plays statistically amazing for him, "average stats like .915 and 2.5 gaa" is statistically amazing for him in the playoffs, then you are probably right. But that is like saying "Well if Rask has a .980 and 0.6 GAA" then the Bruiins will win. Well, yes, of course
