Lets not forget that PEDs arent doing the work for these guys, theyre just allowing the body to actually perform the ridiculous amount of work theyre expecting out of themselves. Sure an average hobbyist bodybuilder taking steroids is ridiculous, band it takes anything impressive about their results away because, given time and focus it could have been done without them... but with these advanced, international level competitors all the sauce in the world isnt going to get you there unless youre also genetically and especially mentally also a monster. TONS of respect for the training they do, assistance isnt even a factor imo.

Bjornsson is a pure beast. I was watching a strongman competition on television one time and he was completely dominating the competition.

Indeed Phyre112!

@Autoexec: one also tends to forget that he has only been in the sport for only a few years. He used to play basketball (and was quite talented [read: tall]) but got some kind of an ankle injury and decided to get strong. With only "moderate" success.

Yeah, strongman are all beasts. I remember watching a video of Brian Shaw trying to sit in an average sized car. It was a convertible and his entire head was over the windshield. I really want to try and stand next to a person that big

Anybody interested in Brian Shaw and the Arnold Classic in Columbus, OH ought to read this excellent New Yorker article. I attended the classic two years in the past, and it was awesome, and Brian Shaw honestly seems like one of the nicest guys in the world.

Someone posted that in last year's thread - it's a great article, and having read it really made this year's WSM finals mmore fun to watch, to see if the defending champion could overcome his injuries.

Hafthor! He's my favourite strongman. He's so good at all the stuff I think of as the real strongman events, like atlas stones etc. He was unbelievably rapid at WSM on all the stone loading stuff. Shame he falls behind on stuff like squat and deadlift, squat especially is an odd one to have imo.

@sJarl iirc it was a knee injury not an ankle one.

That's fucking sweet. I'd be going but I moved across the country.

His ROM on the squat and deadlift is like twice the ROM of an average person lol. He wrecks on the stones tho

bw: 103,4kg

Back Squat
weight sets reps
132,5 1 8

Overhead Press
weight sets reps
67,5 1 5

Deadlift
weight sets reps
150 1 10

Chin Up
weight sets reps
+13,75 1 4

Dragon Flag
weight sets reps
bw 3 1,1,2

The Deadlift-set took everything out of me, but satisfied with the 10 reps. Squats and Press were also hard. I will take the whole next two days off to recover. For the next cycle, I'll increase the weight for Deadlifts agressively (12,11,10 reps is kind of more than I wanted), not quite sure yet if I do the same for Squats.
Also for robe skipping, I achieved 28 consecutive Double-Unders. Long term goal is 50.

So I'm thinking of changing from Stonglifts to Starting Strength for a few reasons. One is that 3x5 is shorter than 5x5 and I keep missing sets due to time. Secondly, I've tried for months to get Barbell Rows down and just can't do it. I also want to start Olympic lifts in June and think that swapping to Power Clean is a good idea to get into the swing of things early.

Is this a good idea or will it backfire?

Also, I see a bunch of guys doing weighted pull-ups in their starting strength routines. How/when do you do these?

For what it's worth, I did the same thing switching from SL to SS for pretty much the same reasons. I do weighted pull-ups in place of clean.

I thought they were both 5x5, and then you switch to 3x5 when you've stalled a couple of times? That's certainly the case with SL, after stalling twice (iirc), you switch to 3x5.

Just switching between SL and SS won't backfire because they're basically the same program. I've seen people doing pull-ups/chin-ups just at the end of the session, either day or both. I think there's more info about it in the SS book, pretty sure there's a whole section on assistance.

Just add the oly lifts with an empty bar to the end of your workouts, the earlier you start the better off you'll be

Wednesday

High box squats: 445-3
5 second paused front squats: 185: 5-5-5
Hanging leg raises: 12-12-12

Friday

Bench press: 275-4 (strained a bicep)
military press: 135: 10-10-10

couldn't do much else but rehab and hope I didn't injure myself bad enough to affect deadlifts tomorrow since it's my underhand and switching feels weird to me...

I wouldn't risk it if I were you. I don't know how much you deadlift but judging by your squat I'm guessing pretty high lol. Just take some rest and let your bicep recover.
